Summary

  • make the Issue the single interactive reply surface for agent-owned work, while keeping the execution view read-only with a clear return-to-Issue action
  • queue follow-up instructions while an execution is running and project one authoritative Issue state across comments, activity, and execution details
  • persist and restore execution workspace/runtime context so Issue executions can reopen their Terminal, files, and diff without depending on the personal task list
  • keep personal tasks and Issue executions separate, including notification navigation and route-address handling
  • add bilingual user documentation and extend focused unit/integration and real Electron collaboration coverage

State model

  • starting or following up an Issue execution moves the Issue to in_progress
  • terminal completion of the latest direct execution moves the Issue to in_review
  • historical AI replies retain their own completed/failed state; the live Issue state is rendered separately
  • manager/member collaboration internals cannot independently advance the parent Issue to review

Verification

  • pre-push Wework full renderer, Electron, and DSH unit suites
  • Wework ESLint and TypeScript checks
  • Backend Black, isort, syntax, and focused 115-test service suite
  • collaboration package: 97 files / 670 tests
  • Wework focused: 7 files / 597 tests
  • Executor: 1480 library tests + 50 runtime send-contract tests
  • cargo fmt and clippy
  • Alembic multi-head check
  • real Electron collaboration-local-agent-dispatch scenario

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Follow-up replies during an active execution are queued and handled in order, without starting a concurrent run.
    • Execution views retain their Issue and workspace context, making it easier to reopen the relevant task.
    • Execution views are read-only; submit follow-up instructions from the Issue.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Issue status now reflects agent progress, moving to In progress during execution and to In review after terminal runs when no work remains.
    • Older execution updates no longer overwrite the state of a newer run.
  • Documentation
    • Updated Issue activity guidance to explain follow-ups, execution views, and status changes.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request carries execution context through task bindings and runtime addresses. It allows Issue replies to queue behind active executions, updates task-state handling for execution lifecycle events, and changes Issue execution views, reply controls, and task-specific routing.

Changes

Issue execution and follow-ups

Layer / File(s) Summary
Execution context contract and persistence
backend/app/models/delivery.py, backend/app/schemas/delivery.py, backend/app/services/loop_items/service.py, executor/src/task_runtime/*, executor/src/runtime_work/handler/robot_queue_rpc.rs, packages/chat-core/src/*, packages/collaboration/src/dto-mappers/*, packages/collaboration/src/issue-detail/*, packages/collaboration/src/ports/SharedWorkspaceApi.ts, wework/src/api/*
Task bindings now accept and return optional execution context. Binding code filters and stores supported values, and runtime and workspace APIs map the context across their request and response shapes.
Runtime follow-up queueing
executor/src/runtime_work/*, executor/tests/app_runtime_work_send_contract.rs, backend/app/services/project_chat/comment_execution.py, backend/tests/services/test_project_comment_execution.py, packages/chat-core/src/runtime-task-api-types.ts, packages/collaboration/src/execution/*
Runtime sends can request queueing when busy. Claude Code and Codex turns use the queue path for busy tasks, and Issue follow-ups use the supplied runtime address and return queued status and position when provided.
Issue task lifecycle and terminal updates
backend/app/services/project_chat/service.py, backend/tests/services/test_project_chat_service.py, executor/src/task_runtime/local_execution_activity.rs, executor/src/task_runtime/store.rs
Task status handling now covers start, failure, cancellation, and other terminal updates. Stale terminal updates do not replace a different active run, and runtime comment completion updates the linked task within a transaction.
Issue execution views and address handling
wework/src/features/todo/*, wework/src/features/workbench/*, wework/src/components/layout/*, packages/collaboration/src/SharedIssueDetailEditor.tsx, packages/collaboration/src/execution/taskCardReply.ts, wework/e2e/desktop/scenarios/*, docs/*/wegent/user-guide/coding/issue-comment-interaction.md, wework/src/i18n/locales/*
Issue task views use bound execution context and task-specific routes. Reply controls remain available during active executions, while the linked execution view is read-only. Workbench task addresses preserve context when reopening the same task.

Merge Risk

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 29152

Several earlier review concerns on Issue execution read-only handling, task state transitions and binding context are still open. Resolve or accept them before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 29152

Access checks remain in the inspected execution paths, but queued replies can be associated with the wrong execution outcome, and a lost acknowledgement can make ongoing work appear finished. These lifecycle inconsistencies weaken oversight and recovery of agent-owned work.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · reliability · inferred: Queueing creates multiple open replies for one runtime task, but runtime projection selects the newest pending or streaming reply by device and task, not by turn or trigger identity. An earlier turn's output or completion can therefore be assigned to a queued follow-up and advance the Issue to review before that follow-up finishes. The stale-run guard does not protect against selecting the newer row itself, weakening execution oversight and outcome integrity.
  • Medium · reliability · inferred: A timeout, disconnect, or unreadable acknowledgement is treated as definitive execution failure. The PR additionally moves that failed response's Issue to review, without cancelling or reconciling a turn the executor may already have accepted. Failed responses are excluded from normal open-response event lookup. Agent work can consequently remain queued or execute while its authoritative Issue state indicates review, undermining failure containment and recovery.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The inspected continuation path affects a previously bound runtime task under its recorded executor owner. Its downstream authority inherits that execution's configuration. The retained concerns affect oversight of this authorized work; broader tenant, environment, or infrastructure exposure was not established.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Backend project-session transcript access requires Viewer scope and matching durable project, Issue, device, and task records with one unambiguous owner. Client workspace paths and runtime handles are stripped from read authority. AiChatModal adds presentation metadata without changing the task target.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Upstream execution observations enforce owner-aware task resolution, event ordering, and terminal-state election. Those checks identify the execution attempt, but the subsequent chat projector independently selects the newest open response, leaving queued-turn attribution unresolved by the upstream controls.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Carry a durable turn or trigger identity through queue acceptance and runtime events, and use it to select the response and terminal Issue owner. Treat uncertain acknowledgements as unresolved until acceptance or termination is reconciled, rather than immediately projecting review.

1803-1803: 🎯 Functional Correctness

The cancellation and failure transitions require product confirmation.

The reconciliation path now calls _advance_task_to_review for every terminal run status, including failed and cancelled. This moves the Issue to in_review after a runtime failure or user cancellation. The stated behavior defines in_review for terminal completion, but does not establish that failed or cancelled executions should also trigger it.

If only successful completion should move the Issue to review, limit this call to completed.

304-314: 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration

No supported issue remains.

update_execution_progress already selects agent responses with status pending or streaming, and the response.created/response.in_progress handlers set the selected response to streaming with run_status: "running". The provided source does not support the claim that a queued response remains pending when the runtime starts it.

227-245: LGTM!

packages/collaboration/src/execution/taskAiExecution.ts (1)

341-432: The /running|执行中/i rejection branch is now rarely reachable.

queueIfBusy: true makes the executor queue busy tasks. The "already running" error no longer returns for busy tasks. The branch remains valid for older executors that ignore the flag, so keep it. No change needed.

packages/collaboration/src/execution/taskCardReply.ts (2)

54-61: cardSessionActive no longer ignores terminal status when busy returns undefined.

The new code checks only the last agent message. If the last agent message is pending or streaming, the card reads as active. That matches the old fallback for the latest message. Old code scanned all agent messages. The new code is narrower and avoids a stale earlier message. This is acceptable.

⚠️ Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.

Add executionContext to LocalTaskBindingRecord.

The todos.bind payload now carries executionContext. The local executor returns it in TaskBinding. The LocalTaskBindingRecord type (Lines 84-96) has no executionContext field. listTaskBindings and getBoardSnapshot spread the records, so the value flows at runtime. The type hides it from consumers.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Persist the full address when associating an existing task with an Issue.

The association calls in wework/src/components/layout/useWorkbenchCloudProjectContext.ts pass contextRuntimeTask to bindTask. That address contains only deviceId and taskId. Consequently, this new executionContext is empty even when the open task has a worktree path, thread, and runtime. If the runtime-work list is later unavailable, the binding cannot restore that execution workspace. Pass the current full address for binding while retaining the identity-only address for lookup.

🟡 Minor · Match the bound address to the current task before… · DesktopWorkbenchMain.tsx:1365-1366

wework/src/components/layout/DesktopWorkbenchMain.tsx:1365-1366
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Match the bound address to the current task before reopening it.

When the task identity changes, boundRuntimeTaskAddress can still contain the previous task during this render. openRuntimeTask navigates to that address without an identity guard. Match deviceId and taskId before reconciling the address.

Suggested fix
       !currentRuntimeTask ||
       !boundRuntimeTaskAddress ||
+      currentRuntimeTask.deviceId !== boundRuntimeTaskAddress.deviceId ||
+      currentRuntimeTask.taskId !== boundRuntimeTaskAddress.taskId ||
       hasResolvedExecutionAddress(currentRuntimeTask, boundRuntimeTaskAddress)

Before reconciling the bound address in the flow containing openRuntimeTask,
verify that currentRuntimeTask and boundRuntimeTaskAddress have matching
deviceId and taskId values. Do not reopen or navigate using a stale address from
a previous task; preserve the existing reconciliation behavior when the
identities match.

Assert that the second request starts after the first response is released.

If the second follow-up starts after this 500 ms check but before Line 497 releases the first response, the test accepts concurrent execution. The later request-order check also passes. Record when the first response is released. In handleHttp, reject a follow-up-two request that arrives before that point.
