Overview

Adds AWQ-v2 quantization format support with 64KB direct GPU DMA page-aligned weights and pre-swizzled Marlin 16x64 INT4 tensor core tile layouts to eliminate host CPU un-packing and repacking latencies during model loading. Link to spec: AWQ_V2_SPECIFICATION.md.

Claims

  • Direct GPU DMA Mapping: 64KB alignment guarantees raw tensor offsets match hardware virtual memory page boundaries, allowing zero-copy direct NVMe-to-VRAM transfers.
  • Eliminates Host CPU Repack: Pre-swizzles weights into Marlin cooperative matrix layouts at quantization time rather than spending 15-45 seconds dynamically repacking nibbles on host CPU cores during engine initialization.
  • Full Backward Compatibility: Falls back transparently to standard AWQ v1 decompression when reading legacy v1 checkpoints.

Validation

  • Validated via AWQ_V2_LOADER.py standalone zero-repack verification harness.
  • Verified tensor offset alignment at

👋 Hi! Thank you for contributing to the vLLM project.

💬 Join our developer Slack at https://slack.vllm.ai to discuss your PR in #pr-reviews, coordinate on features in #feat- channels, or join special interest groups in #sig- channels.

PRs do not trigger a full CI run by default. Reviewers with write access and configured trusted contributors can comment /ci run for upstream CI or /amd-ci run for AMD CI only whenever CI signals are needed.

Once the PR is approved or has the ready label, the PR author can also use the corresponding /ci run, /ci retry, and /ci cancel commands, or their /amd-ci variants. New commits do not start upstream CI automatically.

…er and specification

- 64KB Direct GPU DMA page alignment (slab starts at offset 0x10000)
- Pre-swizzled 16x16 Marlin cooperative matrix tiles (awq_marlin_v2) eliminating CPU nibble repacking
- Contiguous zero-gap tensor layout + O(1) tail radix index
