Overview

#59533 merged the QSA QKV/gate projection with the replicated indexer Q/K projection, so at TP=2 on DGX Spark
(GB10, SM121) the local weight is (7296, 2560) = 6656 + 640. QWEN4_EXP_SM121_GEMM_PLANS has the TP=1 merged
shape (13952, 2560) but not the TP=2 one, so on a 2x DGX Spark TP=2 deployment every QSA projection call falls
back to cuBLAS. This PR adds the measured (7296, 2560) rows for M = 1/2/4/8/16 and keeps (6656, 2560) for the
LoRA path, which does not fuse the indexer projection.

Claims

  • GB10, (7296, 2560) BF16, cold L2, fresh process, arms alternated: at M=1 the skinny kernel reads the weight at
about 250 GB/s vs 165 GB/s for the cuBLAS gemvx kernel (~1.5x). At M=2..16 cuBLAS already reaches
225-235 GB/s, so the gain is about 1.05x-1.15x. Cosine 0.999999 vs FP32 F.linear for every row.
  • In a 2x DGX Spark TP=2 serving trace (MTP k=3, c=1) the projection moves from gemvx (218 us, M=1) /
cutlass_80_wmma (170 us, M=2/4) to the planned skinny kernel (162 us): 2.57 -> 2.35 ms per decode step.
Like [Perf][Qwen4Exp] Keep the HC up projection on the skinny GEMM path #60027, this PR restores a planned dispatch path; it does not claim an end-to-end speedup (see Validation).
  • No behaviour change for TP=1, other architectures, or LoRA deployments.

Validation

All measurements are on 2x NVIDIA DGX Spark (GB10, SM121, driver 580.178.04), TP=2 over ConnectX-7 200G RoCE,

Single-run sweep timings of identical kernels differ by up tat M=2), which is why
the table above re-measures the committed rows instead of qu numbers.

all numbers were measured on the hardware above.

  • Testing and Validation: covered by the existing `Qrization; kernel, trace
    and end-to-end data above.

  • Code Quality and Style: ruff check and `ruff for

  • Pull Request Contents: root cause, coordination win and remaining caveats.

After vllm-project#59533 merged the QSA QKV/gate projection with the replicated
indexer Q/K projection, the TP=2 local weight on DGX Spark (SM121) is
(7296, 2560). QWEN4_EXP_SM121_GEMM_PLANS only had the TP=1 merged shape
(13952, 2560) and the pre-merge TP=2 shape (6656, 2560) from vllm-project#59632, so
on a 2x DGX Spark TP=2 deployment every QSA projection call fell back to
cuBLAS (gemvx at M=1, cutlass_80_wmma at M=2..16).

Add the measured (7296, 2560) rows for M=1/2/4/8/16 (GB10, cold L2:
about 1.5x at M=1 and 1.05x-1.15x at M=2..16 vs cuBLAS, cosine 0.999999
vs FP32 F.linear) and keep the (6656, 2560) row for the LoRA path, which does
not fuse the indexer projection.

✅ @TimRen01, CI is now available for this PR.

  • /ci run starts upstream CI; /amd-ci run starts AMD CI only.
  • Your branch must contain every commit currently on its upstream target branch. Merge or rebase onto the latest target branch, then rerun the command. Append --allow-stale to a run command to test an outdated branch at your own risk.
  • /ci retry retries failed jobs in the CI build for the current PR head. If the current head has no CI build, it starts a new CI build for the current head containing only jobs that failed in the latest earlier CI build for this PR.
  • /amd-ci retry retries failed jobs in AMD CI for the current PR head. Use /amd-ci run when the current head has no AMD CI build.
  • /ci cancel cancels scheduled or running CI builds for this PR branch; /amd-ci cancel does the same for AMD CI only.

💬 Join our developer Slack at https://slack.vllm.ai to discuss your PR in #pr-reviews, coordinate on features in #feat- channels, or join special interest groups in #sig- channels.

PRs do not trigger a full CI run by default. Reviewers with write access and configured trusted contributors can comment /ci run for upstream CI or /amd-ci run for AMD CI only whenever CI signals are needed.

Once the PR is approved or has the ready label, the PR author can also use the corresponding /ci run, /ci retry, and /ci cancel commands, or their /amd-ci variants. New commits do not start upstream CI automatically.
