Purpose

Implements the remaining PR 3 scope tracked in #49569 by fixing MyPy errors in 12 test directories and moving them from SEPARATE_GROUPS to SILENT_GROUPS, so the checks are enforced.

The changes include precise annotations, optional-value narrowing, typed test helpers and mocks, scoped ignores for intentional test inputs, and corrections to test calls that do not match the current interfaces. Production code is unchanged.

This PR integrates @luyixiao95's tests/reasoning contribution from commit 60b9179, preserving the original authorship. We coordinated in #49569 to submit the work together rather than opening separate PRs.

The tests/model_executor/model_loader portion is covered by #55485 and is intentionally not duplicated here. #51043 covers the separate PR 2 scope.

Test Plan

DIRS=(
  tests/benchmarks
  tests/entrypoints/anthropic
  tests/entrypoints/multimodal
  tests/entrypoints/pooling
  tests/kernels/attention
  tests/kernels/helion
  tests/multimodal
  tests/quantization
  tests/reasoning
  tests/v1/logits_processors
  tests/v1/sample
  tests/v1/spec_decode
)

.venv/bin/mypy --python-version 3.10 --follow-imports silent \
  --warn-unused-ignores "${DIRS[@]}"

.venv/bin/pre-commit run -a --hook-stage manual mypy-3.10

Also verified that all Python files in these directories route to the default silent group, ran the applicable repository hooks on changed files, and checked the diff for whitespace errors.

Runtime regressions used Python 3.12 on NVIDIA L20:

.venv/bin/python -m pytest <test-scope> -v

For AutoRound, model-backed tests were excluded:

.venv/bin/python -m pytest tests/quantization/test_auto_round.py \
  -k 'not test_auto_round_model and not test_e2e' -v

Test Result

Static checks

  • Exact MyPy check: Success: no issues found in 286 source files.
  • Full mypy-3.10 hook: passed.
  • Routing: all 286 Python files across the 12 directories enter the default silent group.
  • Ruff lint/format and the other applicable repository hooks: passed.
  • Diff whitespace check: passed.

Runtime tests

Selected regression results on NVIDIA L20:

Test scope Result
tests/v1/logits_processors 59 passed
tests/entrypoints/multimodal/llm/test_mm_processor_kwargs.py 17 passed
tests/multimodal/test_processing.py 98 passed
tests/multimodal/test_registry.py 9 passed
tests/multimodal/test_audio.py 47 passed
tests/multimodal/test_video.py 87 passed, 2 skipped
tests/quantization/test_quantization_config_args.py 23 passed
tests/quantization/test_auto_round.py (unit tests) 94 passed, 6 skipped, 12 deselected
tests/quantization/test_moe_wna16.py 19 passed, 1 skipped
tests/v1/sample/test_head_dtype.py 8 passed
tests/v1/sample/test_logprobs.py::test_get_logprobs_and_prompt_logprobs 9 passed, 7 skipped
tests/v1/spec_decode/test_eagle.py 46 passed, 6 skipped
tests/v1/spec_decode/test_mtp.py 2 passed
tests/entrypoints/pooling/classify/test_offline.py 9 passed
tests/entrypoints/pooling/token_classify/test_online.py 5 passed
tests/entrypoints/pooling/token_embed/test_online.py 5 passed
tests/kernels/helion/test_silu_mul_fp8.py 10 passed, 83 skipped
tests/kernels/attention/test_rocm_aiter_mla_sink.py 34 skipped

The tests/reasoning contribution from @luyixiao95 was integrated with authorship preserved, and the full directory was rerun: 480 passed.

Skip and scope notes:

  • Video: one test requires H200; the other is an existing unconditional Molmo2 processor-alignment skip.
  • Logprobs: seven parameter combinations are intentionally skipped to avoid duplicate coverage.
  • Eagle: six combinations are skipped by the upstream marker disabling TRITON_ATTN variants on non-ROCm platforms.
  • AutoRound and MoE: the skipped cases require an XPU environment. The AutoRound run excludes model-backed tests.
  • Helion: the skipped cases require kernel configurations unavailable on L20.
  • ROCm: the suite is skipped on CUDA hardware and requires supported ROCm CI workers.

These results cover selected regressions, not a full-suite run across all 12 directories. H200-, ROCm-, and FA4-specific paths were not validated locally.

👋 Hi! Thank you for contributing to the vLLM project.

💬 Join our developer Slack at https://slack.vllm.ai to discuss your PR in #pr-reviews, coordinate on features in #feat- channels, or join special interest groups in #sig- channels.

PRs do not trigger a full CI run by default. Reviewers with write access and configured trusted contributors can comment /ci run for upstream CI or /amd-ci run for AMD CI only whenever CI signals are needed.

Once the PR is approved or has the ready label, the PR author can also use the corresponding /ci run, /ci retry, and /ci cancel commands, or their /amd-ci variants. New commits do not start upstream CI automatically.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us on Slack at https://slack.vllm.ai.

Agent Guidelines

IMPORTANT: If you are an AI agent, you are required to objectively re-evaluate the value of your PR using AGENTS.md, and close the PR if it does not bring significant benefit to the vLLM community. Failure to do so may result in an immediate ban.

✅ Triggered Buildkite CI #92106 for commit 43e141b860db.

- Build QuantSpec/QuantizationConfigArgs from user-facing names via
pydantic validation helpers instead of ignoring arg-type
- Cast fake tokenizers once in fixtures/helpers instead of at every call
- Use monkeypatch consistently in test_processing.py
- Replace the runtime_checkable Protocol in tests/reasoning/utils.py with a cast

❌ This PR is 1 commit behind upstream main. Your branch must contain every commit currently on upstream main. No new CI build was started. Merge or rebase onto the latest main, then rerun /ci run. To test this branch at your own risk, use /ci run --allow-stale.
