Moved the cache-salt tests into tests/entrypoints/unit_tests/test_non_object_body_validation.py, alongside the existing before-validator coverage for the other request models, and removed the standalone file.

Document URL-safe Base64 salts. The cache_salt descriptions are exposed through the request OpenAPI schemas. Standard Base64 can contain /, but validate_cache_salt rejects /, so clients following the schema can receive validation errors. Update all three descriptions to specify URL-safe Base64.

Align cache_salt schemas with the shared limit.
The cache_salt fields that call validate_cache_salt still declare max_length=1024. Values over 128 characters can pass the field schema but fail the model validator. Set max_length to _MAX_CACHE_SALT_LENGTH.

Please check if the failing entrypoints unit tests are related to the PR |
The before-validator called data.get() without checking that the body is a dict, raising AttributeError (surfaced as HTTP 500) for non-object JSON bodies instead of a clean validation error. Match the guard already used by the pooling and token-in-token-out validators. Yes, those were from this PR. The cache-salt check did not handle non-object request bodies, so they errored out with a 500 instead of a clean rejection. Fixed that, and updated the related test to match. Pushed. |

Validate cache salts before they reach LMCache
What this fixes
vLLM accepted any non-empty string as
cache_salt, while LMCache rejects saltscontaining
@,/,\, a NUL byte, or more than 128 characters. On an LMCache-MPdeployment, that disagreement could turn one bad request into an uncaught exception in
the shared EngineCore process.
For example:
{"prompt":"hello","max_tokens":1,"cache_salt":"/"}Before this change, completions, chat, Responses, pooling, and scale-out request models
could accept that value. LMCache rejected it later while the scheduler was running, where
the error was treated as fatal to the engine. After this change, every public request
model applies LMCache-compatible rules and rejects the request as a client error before
scheduling. A value such as
safe-cache_salt-123remains valid.Why it matters
An authenticated client could take an LMCache-MP-backed engine down for all concurrent
users with one short request. LMCache-MP is an operator-selected deployment mode; other
cache backends do not follow this failure path.
The change
The branch adds one shared
validate_cache_salt()helper and routes all five publicrequest families through it. It rejects forbidden characters and values longer than 128
characters with
VLLMValidationError. The scale-outGenerateRequest, which previouslyhad no salt validator, now uses the same rule.
How it was tested
Without the fix, 5 focused cases failed and 1 safe-value control passed. With the fix,
all 6 passed. The cases cover completions, chat, Responses, scale-out generation,
cache_salt="/", a 129-character value, and a valid salt. The archived evidence provesthe admission behavior; the original engine-death path was established by tracing the
uncaught LMCache exception and was not replayed with a live LMCache server in this run.
