official package metadata tokenizers 0.23.3 dependencies transformers 5.12.1 tokenizers requirement

💡 Result:

**No—`tokenizers==0.23.3` does not satisfy the published `transformers==5.12.1` requirement.** The requirement is `tokenizers>=0.22.0,<=0.23.0`, so pip will treat 0.23.3 as incompatible. (GitHub issue 46785 in huggingface/transformers (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))

PyPI’s official metadata confirms `tokenizers` 0.23.3 was released October 9, 2026, but its own metadata doesn’t state Transformers compatibility. ([pypi.org](https://pypi.org/project/tokenizers/0.23.3/?utm_source=openai))

official transformers 5.12.1 PyPI metadata Requires-Dist tokenizers 0.23.0 and tokenizers 0.23.0 PyPI metadata

💡 Result:

- **`transformers==5.12.1`** declares `tokenizers>=0.22,<=0.23.0` in its PyPI `Requires-Dist` metadata. ([pypi.org](https://pypi.org/project/transformers/5.12.1/))
- **`tokenizers==0.23.0`**: I couldn’t confirm a published PyPI release or metadata for this exact version. The available release history and related report indicate `0.23.0` was only a release candidate; `0.23.1` was the first stable release. (GitHub issue 47429 in huggingface/transformers (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))

So the Transformers requirement’s upper bound names `0.23.0`, but that does not establish that a stable `tokenizers==0.23.0` distribution exists on PyPI.

Use a tokenizer version supported by Transformers 5.12.1.

transformers==5.12.1 requires tokenizers>=0.22,<=0.23.0, so tokenizers==0.23.3 creates an unsatisfiable dependency set for the documented project installation. The lockfile already resolves the compatible tokenizers==0.22.2.

OK, I won't notify you again about this release, but will get in touch when a new version is available. If you'd rather skip all updates until the next major or minor version, let me know by commenting @dependabot ignore this major version or @dependabot ignore this minor version. You can also ignore all major, minor, or patch releases for a dependency by adding an ignore condition with the desired update_types to your config file.

If you change your mind, just re-open this PR and I'll resolve any conflicts on it.

…e Megatron engine

The precision-aware optimizer on a quantized checkpoint needs two Megatron-LM
fixes that are still open: no-grad fp32 main-param shards (verl-project#8245; otherwise
optimizer_cpu_offload=True raises "can't optimize a non-leaf Tensor") and
per-dtype grad-norm / clipping kernels (verl-project#7279; otherwise the mixed bf16/fp32
gradient list hits an illegal memory access). Port the runtime equivalents into
verl/models/mcore/patch.py, apply them once per process before the optimizer is
built (VERL_MEGATRON_OPTIMIZER_COMPAT=0 disables), and cover the grouping and
no-grad wrapping with CPU tests.

Example / doc follow-ups from review: routing replay bound to ROUTER_REPLAY_MODE,
LOGGER knob, validated-with versions in the header, EP16 note for response 8192
and dist-checkpoint loads on 80 GB GPUs, first-step-after-resume cost range.
