fix(ci): ignore unresolvable mcp-hub Dependabot security updates - #1145
Conversation
Dependabot run 37393760327 failed security_update_not_possible because the mcp-hub lockfile cannot resolve patched floors for undici, tar, minimatch, and the grouped siblings. Ignore those names so the update job stops failing Actions. Alerts remain. Do not treat this as a YAML parse.

GitHub’s current docs say you can use `ignore` in `dependabot.yml` to suppress matching dependencies in **both version-update and security-update pull requests**. The `dependency-name` field supports exact names or `*` wildcards; for Maven and Gradle, use `groupId:artifactId`. If a dependency matches both `allow` and `ignore`, it is ignored. ([docs.github.com](https://docs.github.com/en/code-security/how-tos/secure-your-supply-chain/manage-your-dependency-security/controlling-dependencies-updated?utm_source=openai))
```yaml
updates:
- package-ecosystem: "npm"
directory: "/"
schedule:
interval: "weekly"
ignore:
- dependency-name: "example-package"
```
Note: GitHub also documents using `ignore` rules to block version updates while still receiving security fixes—but that requires specifying which **update types** to ignore, rather than ignoring the dependency entirely. Scope each ignore to the failing versions or provide a time-bound manual remediation path. These name-only rules block Dependabot security-update PRs for all nine packages. Alerts remain, but they do not provide an update when a lockfile version becomes resolvable. For any runtime dependency that must remain ignored, assign a remediation owner and expiry.
