87-87: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueCheck every declarator, not only the first one.
findMetareads onlystatement.declarations[0]. Consider a file that writesconst a = 1, { Story } = preview.meta({}). The meta call is in the second declarator, sofindMetadoes not detect it. The file then fails withMissingDefineMetaVariableDeclarationError, and the message does not explain the cause. The old code had the same limitation. Downstream consumers also readdeclarations[0], so changing only this loop is not enough. Pick one of these fixes:
- Reject multi-declarator meta declarations with a clear error.
- Record the matching declarator and pass it to every consumer.

…apshots The error snapshots interpolated the package version and the file URLs with template literals. Updating them with `-u` replaced those with the current version and the absolute paths of the machine, which break on the next release or on another machine. A snapshot serializer now prints `v<version>` and `<cwd>` in their place. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
Svelte CSF exports its stories as `export { $__Primary as Primary }`. In a
factories file, `CsfFile` now reads the annotations inside `meta.story()`
behind such a specifier, also when it's wrapped in `satisfies` or `as`, and
marks the story as a factory story. A local specifier export that isn't a
factory story is skipped. A story re-exported from another file is kept.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
A `.stories.svelte` file can call `preview.meta()` in place of `defineMeta()`, with `preview` imported from the preview file. The parser, the compiler and the indexer find the meta with the same code in `utils/import-source.ts`. The compiler outputs a CSF factories module: the stories are `meta.story()` calls, and the module has no default export. `preview.meta()` returns the `Story` component. Its props require the args that meta didn't set, and `Args<typeof Story>` gives the args of a story. Three new errors: a file mixes `defineMeta()` and `preview.meta()` (0010), `preview` isn't imported from a preview file (0011), and a file calls `preview.meta()` twice (0012). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 (1M context) <noreply@anthropic.com>
The cases that show what the previous commits do, from source in to output out: - Compiler: the full compiled module for both meta shapes (`compiler/post-transform/index.test.ts`). - Vitest transform: core's `vitestTransform` on the compiled module, as in addon-vitest (`compiler/vitest-transform.test.ts`). - Indexer and parsers: index entries for each import shape, and the new errors. - Runtime: factory `.stories.svelte` files rendered with `Story.run()` and `composeStories` (`__test__/svelte-csf-factories/`). The renderer's Vitest config loads the `svelteCsf()` plugin for this. - Types: `type-checks.svelte`, which `svelte-check` checks, and `Args<typeof Story>`. - Core: `CsfFile` reads factory stories behind export specifiers. …y files
In a factories file, a local function or class exported with
`export { helper }` was indexed as a story, because its declaration has no
initializer. Only stories imported from another file are now kept. A
`.story()` call behind a specifier is read as a factory story only in a
factories file, so a non-factory file reads it as a plain story, as before.

`preview.type<…>()` returns the preview with more types. The meta detection read only an identifier before `.meta`, so the parser and the indexer didn't find a meta from `preview.type<…>().meta()`. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…F files
A Svelte CSF file can destructure more `Story` components from
`meta.type<…>()`, to add args that the component doesn't declare:
const { Story: IconStory } = meta.type<{ args: { icon: string } }>();
The parser, the compiler and the indexer now track the names of all `Story`
components, also through chains of `.type()` calls, so a file can mix `Story`
and `IconStory`. `meta.type()` returns the same meta at runtime, so the
compiled stories still call `meta.story()`. The types already supported it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Core's CsfFile registers `export const meta = preview.meta()` as a story, so the Vitest transform fails with "Missing exports after sort: meta". React CSF4 files have the same problem. Until core skips an exported meta, the Svelte parsers throw 0004 for it, in the indexer too. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…and-compile-to-csf4-factories
Closes #
What I did
Svelte CSF files (
.stories.svelte) can now callpreview.meta()in place ofdefineMeta(), and they compile to CSF4 factories. Linear: SB-2212. This PR is stacked on #36669, which addsdefinePreviewfor Svelte. How to review
Review it commit by commit:
test(svelte): show placeholders for the version and paths in error snapshots. You can skim this one. It isn't about factories. The error snapshots interpolated the package version and file URLs with${…}. Running Vitest with-ureplaced those with the current version and my absolute paths, which would break on the next release. A snapshot serializer invitest-setup.tsnow printsv<version>and<cwd>, so-ucan't bake them in again.fix(csf-tools): read factory stories exported with export specifiers. This is the only change to core. It's small, but it affects every renderer, so read it closely.feat(svelte): accept preview.meta() in Svelte CSF files. Mostly AST parsing and code generation. You can skim it, because commit 4 shows what it does. The public types inpreview.tsare worth a look.test: the test cases for preview.meta() in Svelte CSF files. Review this one. Each test shows source in and output out: the compiled module, the Vitest transform, the index entries, the errors, the runtime and the types.Commit 3 alone fails the existing tests, because the updated error messages in their snapshots are in commit 4.
Fixes for the Codex review, each with its tests:
fix(csf-tools): skip local helpers behind export specifiers in factory files.fix(svelte): accept preview.type<>().meta() in Svelte CSF files.#36693 (
meta.type<>()) was merged into this branch, so its commits are part of this PR now.Fixes for the review by @huang-julien:
fix(svelte): accept preview.meta().type<>() and an exported meta in Svelte CSF files. The indexer also throws 0004 now, where it dropped the file without an error. Commit 9 removes the exported meta again.test: the test cases for preview.meta().type<>() and an exported meta.fix(svelte): reject an exported meta in Svelte CSF files. Core'sCsfFileregistersexport const meta = preview.meta()as a story (in React CSF4 files too), so the Vitest transform fails. An exported meta throws 0004 until core is fixed. The merge commits

In-repo PRs: add the
ci:canarylabel. Later pushes republish while the label remains.Fork PRs: the label does nothing (a later push must not auto-publish). A maintainer publishes from this repository with Run workflow and the
prinput.branchandshaare optional; if more than one is set, they must be the same commit. The fork author does not need to do anything.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
