CLI: Fix stories changed hanging on attach - #36093
Conversation
The attach path waited on a process-local change-detection readiness deferred that only the instance scanner resolves. Route that check through a delegated module-graph command so the caller returns.

WalkthroughThe module graph now owns change-detection readiness state and exposes a query that waits for readiness. The stories toolset uses this query directly, while service registration and tests remove the previous injected callback. ChangesChange-detection readiness flow

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The change makes attached stories-changed commands return instead of hanging; merge is reasonable with owner awareness that unavailable readiness may suppress optional diagnostic details and that the updated tests need follow-up to align with the repository's typed-mock conventions. ✨ Finishing Touches📝 Generate docstrings

Commands name an action. Align the attach readiness command with _waitForSettledEngine instead of a getX getter.
Drop the duplicated union on the module-graph server options and use the command output schema's InferOutput instead.
stories.changed now awaits the module-graph changeDetectionReadiness query. Its load hook calls _waitForChangeDetectionReadiness, so attach and local share one path and the delegated-mode branch is gone.

Keep the provider's diagnostic on the serialized query result so attach and MCP see the same unavailable payload as the scanner process.
stories.changed already held a module-graph access object. Route readiness through that seam instead of looking up core/module-graph a second time.
Look up core/module-graph once in stories.changed and pass that instance into the existing access helper. Keep ModuleGraphAccess as the graph-status and reverse-index slice; do not add readiness there.
Closes #
What I did
storybook tools stories changednever returned when attached to a running Storybook. Local mode and--no-attachwere fine; MCPstories-changedon the same server was also fine. Other attach tools (docs list, stories find-by-component,review create) returned normally. The handler waited on a process-local change-detection readiness deferred. Only the instance scanner (or the local-mode host) resolves that deferred. Attach never starts a scanner, so the promise never settled.
This routes the readiness check through a delegated
core/module-graphcommand so the caller reads the instance result instead of waiting locally.Checklist for Contributors
