This is already planned for Spring 2.1, as part of the general JCA 1.5 support there (which will include full ResourceAdapter support). JCA WorkManager support will simply be a part of that effort, allowing for use of the JCA WorkManager within Spring application contexts which have been deployed as RAR file.

However, note that the JCA WorkManager is generally only available to JCA connectors; it is an internal API, not intended to be used by J2EE applications. Hence, its use in J2EE applications is not portable: Each such application would have to bundle its own WorkManager implementation (such as the Geronimo WorkManager), which will work completely on its own; there is no interaction with the J2EE server's global thread management.

In contrast to the JCA WorkManager, the CommonJ WorkManager - as supported by WebLogic and WebSphere - is intended to be used by J2EE applications. In that case, the application points to fully server-managed WorkManager instances obtained from JNDI, which does interact with the server's global thread management.

I've added this for Spring 2.0.3 already, in the form of a full-fledged WorkManagerTaskExecutor as well as a SimpleWorkManager implementation. I've also added a ResourceAdapterFactoryBean already, for Spring-style bootstrap of a JCA 1.5 ResourceAdapter.

FYI, full JCA 1.5 support is coming in Spring 2.1: local message endpoint management for a bootstrapped ResourceAdapter on the one hand, and deployment of a Spring application context as JCA resource adapter (RAR file) on the other hand.
