STOMP heartbeat support should now work when a STOMP message broker (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc) is used. In effect the application forwards the CONNECT message (with the heartbeat header) to the broker, and then forwards the resulting CONNECTED response (with negotiated heartbeat settings) back to the client. Thereafter, heartbeat messages are simply passed through the application to the message broker and vice versa.

Heartbeat messages are also in use for the "system" session of the STOMP broker relay used for sending messages from the application.

Heartbeat support is not available when the simple broker is in use.
