In a portlet environment it is not possible to autowire fields of type org.springframework.web.context.request.WebRequest in a request scoped proxy.
Autowiring javax.portlet.PortletRequest works fine.

Good point: WebRequest should be a resolvable dependency in Servlet and Portlet web application contexts. That gap got closed for 3.0.1 now.

btw: http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/3.0.x/spring-framework-reference/html/portlet.html misses actual documentation about the new 3.0 annotations...
