Just make
hint_lines,hint_vertical, andhint_lines_skip_whitespacedo linewise operations by default.Very easy change, that's also very compatible. It supports everything that's normal about operators,
:help forced-motion(so you can still force the previous characterwise behaviour like you can with most vim motions,dv:HintLineinstead ofd:HintLine)
