🟣 Pre-existing: The external responses path still widens: crates/external_router/src/openai/responses/route.rs:131 serializes with plain to_value(&request_body), and ResponsesRequest has typed f32 fields (temperature at crates/protocols/src/responses.rs:3050, top_p at :3069), so a BYOK responses upstream still receives "top_p":0.949999988079071 for a client's 0.95. Since this PR's stated scope is exact numbers on the external-provider paths, it's worth switching that site to to_value_exact here too (its tests at route.rs:258 also pin the to_value shape, so they'd move with it).

Good catch, fixed in 4570c8e: openai/responses/route.rs now serializes with to_value_exact too, its wire-contract tests serialize the way the handler does, and a new case pins top_p: 0.95 / temperature: 0.7 on that path. Gated with --features openai, anthropic, gemini (285 passed); my earlier local runs had the routers' features off, which is how this site was missed.

Reviewed the exact-number forwarding fix: to_value_exact is correct (writer prints f32 in shortest round-trip form, parse restores it), both external call sites carry typed f32 fields, and the gateway's request_to_value doc update is accurate. One 🟣 pre-existing note: the external responses path (responses/route.rs:131) still widens and is in this PR's stated scope. No blocking issues.

- Around line 14-20: Update the documentation around the typed-request
serialization helpers to describe parsed-`f32` precision, not source-token
preservation. Clarify that typed `f32` values are emitted using the shortest
JSON decimal that round-trips to the parsed value and cannot retain precision
discarded during deserialization; align the nearby forwarding-path and payload
comments with this behavior.

#2637 stopped f32 fields widening on the HTTP and PD paths, but the external-provider paths still built their upstream payload with serde_json::to_value, so a BYOK upstream received top_p as 0.949999988079071. to_value_exact, shared from the protocols crate, serializes with the writer and parses that back, restoring the parsed f32's shortest round-trip form (not the client's token: precision the parse discarded is gone). The OpenAI chat and responses paths and the Gemini path use it; the gateway's pre-sized helper says it is the same thing. Description
Problem
From the review of #2637:
request_to_valuefixed thef32widening for the HTTP and PD paths, butcrates/external_router/src/openai/chat.rs:86(to_value(&body)) andcrates/external_router/src/gemini/steps/request_building.rs:40still widen, so a BYOK upstream (OpenAI, z.ai) receives"top_p":0.949999988079071for a client's0.95.Solution
openai_protocol::common::to_value_exact: serialize with the writer (which prints eachf32in its shortest round-trip form) and parse that back. The OpenAI chat path, the OpenAI responses path (openai/responses/route.rs, which also widened; its wire-contract tests now serialize the way the handler does) and the Gemini path use it; the gateway'srequest_to_valuekeeps its pre-sized buffer and documents that it is the same operation. The doc states what this is and is not: it restores the parsedf32's shortest decimal, not the client's original token (precision the parse discarded,0.950000001→0.95, is gone), and numbers kept asValue(other, nested values) were normalized at parse time (1e2→100.0,-0→-0.0).Test Plan
