Any idea why Git thinks a large chunk of code in the middle has changed even though it's actually identical in both versions, by the way? |

that is a good question, i'd assume \r\n <=> \n weirdness, but no clue exactly |

In addition to adding these methods, this PR also uses them to simplify some of the existing ones.
