Pink Programming - Game Dev Camp 2018

Workshop material created for Pink Programming's first GameDev Summer Camp, 2018 July 16-21 in Järvsö.

The workshop target beginners in programming. It makes heavy use of the open source game programming tool called Greenfoot, developed at Kings' Collage London with support from Oracle. It is free software released under GPL license, for Windows, Mac, Linux or any recent JVM.

Contents

/PPJavaExercises

  • Additional installation guide - for getting started coding in Eclipse IDE.
  • Java programming basics - useful not only for game programming

These Java exercises to be introduced halfway through the camp, in order to support basic programming skills, without the concepts of game programming.

/PPTextGameWorkshop

  • Inspirational slides - introducing the universe of text games
  • Workshop instructions - step by step for how to make a greenfoot game support animated and text based narratives
  • *.gfar-files - greenfoot example projects, versions reflecting each chapter in the workshop instructions

Workshop providing an extra game example, differing in genre from tutorials and examples provided by Oracle and Greenfoot organizations.

The development software Greenfoot © 2005-2015 Michael Kölling, Poul Henriksen and JavaSDK © 2018 Oracle Corporation are provided under cost free conditions provided in each software package. Greenfoot version 3.1.0 was released under GPL 2. JavaSDK1.8 uses special licensing agreements available at its official download page.

The course contents in this repo can be used freely under MIT license, meaning that attribution is required. Pink Programming organization name and source link should be provided when remixed or redistributed.
