My system ruby is 3.0.1 installed with ASDF or 3.0.3 with the system (the last version on AL)

$ ruby --version
ruby 3.0.1p64 (2021-04-05 revision 0fb782ee38) [x86_64-linux]

$ pacman -Ql ruby | grep libruby
ruby /usr/lib/libruby.so
ruby /usr/lib/libruby.so.3.0
ruby /usr/lib/libruby.so.3.0.3

I don't understand why ruby-build is trying to load the shared library libruby.so.3.1 while trying to build ruby 3.1.
I guess that like the last time with #1739 when AL will have updated to ruby 3.1.0 I'll be able to build ruby 3.1.X with ruby-build.
But isn't it weird that it requires ruby version X to be able to build ruby version X?

Did you found solution for this? I need to install Arch on few machines, together with rbenv. I've had similar problem on linux mint , while trying to install mruby. Turned out that global version was system. After setting rbenv global 3.0.3, mruby installed successfully.

No, generally I wait for AL package to be updated then when ruby package on AL is 3.1 I will be able to build. But this time it takes a lot of time https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/ruby/ is still not updated since december 2021. I'll try you trick by switching asdf from system to a ruby 3.0.x. This tricks may work for someone that is already having a non-system ruby installed but if it's your first installation it won't work.

@alx3dev Thx temporary setting the global ruby (the one shimed in the PATH) to the ruby version manager (here asdf) workaround-ed the issue.

asdf global ruby 3.0.2
asdf install ruby 3.1.0
asdf global ruby system

@hsbt It's still happening. I can't build any 3.x.x from my system ruby, but if my PATH if referencing another ruby built with ruby-build, I can build another ruby. It's oke for now because I can install new ruby version as long as I have old ones built. But on a new system with only the system ruby I wouldn't be able to build one with ruby-build.
