Comments
@gauravano can do something like this on IS repo as well? Maybe it can be
pinned too?

Hi everyone!
We, at Public Lab, are known for welcoming new contributors into the Open
Source world but a number of times, newcomers were not able to find
first-timers-only issues to start their journey or face troubles making
their first contribution with us.
Reasons being:
1. Lack of first-timers-only issues
2. Struggle in finding the good issue to start and lack of enough
support?
We are working on both of the above aspects to support and help the
maximum number of people to take their first step in their OSS journey with
us, through our various projects <https://github.com/publiclab/> but we
need more support for this. So, this is a call to all the Public Lab
members to try and create a first-timers-issue for someone who wants to
start their journey and waiting for an FTO being assigned to them.
If you are interested in creating first-timers-only issue, follow these
instructions:
1. Browse through the publiclab.org and see if there's a bug which can
be easily solved
2. Solve this issue but don't create a PR this time, instead create a
FTO issue
3. Click on this link <https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/issues/new>
to start creating a new issue
4. We follow a specific template for FTO issues, so copy the template
from here
<https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/blob/master/.github/ISSUE_TEMPLATE/first-timers-issue-template.md>
5. Edit the issue body to add the goal of the issue, code snippet
required, file to be updated, add screenshots(if required). Don't add code
snippet required to solve in case, the issue just requires minor HTML or
CSS change or equivalent.
6. Add a catchy and relevant title to the issue but don't include
"FTO" , "first-timers-only" or equivalent in title
7. Get the issue you just created labeled by mentioning
@publiclab/reviewers
<https://github.com/orgs/publiclab/teams/reviewers> or
@publiclab/plots2-reviewers
- If you have labeling privileges, feel free to do so yourself but
ensure that you have used FTO template.
- If you are not able to mention the above-mentioned teams, and
doesn't have labeling privileges, then drop a line in Gitter channel -
https://gitter.im/publiclab/publiclab or mention @jywarren
<https://github.com/jywarren> @gauravano <https://github.com/gauravano>
@SidharthBansal <https://github.com/SidharthBansal> and any one of us
will surely follow-up with you. You can also mention any other member, you
can think of with labeling privileges.
1. It's time to invite a new contributor to your issue. If there are
unchecked names in the below list, then those people are still looking for
FTO issue to start with, so mention them in your FTO by writing - This
issue is created for @[contributor-name]. Thanks!
Also, if you see, a new contributor is looking for an issue, feel free
to point them to your FTO.

Hi, we are looking for support issues like this on each repository of
Public Lab. You can create as many ftos on IS as you want. Also it will be
greatly appreciated if you will open up
https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/wiki/Supportive-Tasks these kinds of
tasks at each repository of Public Lab. We are planning for a better
community at all the repositories.

I was asking if somebody can open such a supportive task issue on IS. |
Can an issue similar to the one I'm commenting on be opened in IS is and can it be pinned by someone is my question. IS also has a shortage of FTOs. |
Also I think all of the |
@gauravano I have opened an issue in IS publiclab/image-sequencer#842. I have based it on your template for this issue. I hope you don't mind. |
Hey @harshkhandeparkar, thanks for opening this issue in Image Sequencer 💯 🚀 |
Hello! I actually am pretty new to GitHub and it's kind of confusing to me, in the sense that I want to contribute to projects but I don't know where to start. Could you please add my name to this list too? |
@coderbeetle Ya sure! You are always welcome. Btw, which language/framework/anything are
you interested in/good at? If ruby is your cup of tea, then we can add your
name here, otherwise you can check some other PL repo and we can introduce
you to that community. Thanks.

@harshkhandeparkar Hey, thanks! And sorry I forgot to mention that ^^ Ruby is great, I'm not too experienced with it but I'm up for the challenge! Anything Java or Javascript would also be great. |
@coderbeetle I will add your name here but there's also another one of these issue in one of publiclab's JS repos 'image-sequencer'. Shall I add your name there as well? |
Also there are many other JS repos, the majority of publiclab repos are JS, you can check them out as well. |
I would love to help with Ruby, currently i'm on internship/junior level and trying to contribute in open source projects to sharp some skills like reading others code, test and code to production. But I can help with some HTML, CSS, Python(flask), and translations from English to Portuguese Brazil, thanks in advance. |
hey @cassianoblonski, I have created a FTO for you at #4992. But, we would also love to have your help on the Translation front. Thanks! Will point you to our Transifex account very soon :) |

Hello, I'm learning to contribute at Open Source. Is there anything I can help ? |
Hi @konolga and @ahmadkarlam, added your name to the above list and we'll mention you soon on FTO issues. Also, you can go ahead and try to find the unclaimed or outdated FTO issues from https://code.publiclab.org/#r=all. Thanks!! |

Hi everyone , |
And this FTO is also up for grab 😄 : |
Hi, Interested in contributing, preferably back end logic. Thanks! |
Hi @dannomayer, I've added your name to the above list and we'll mention you as soon as task matching your preference pops up. Also, as many of the FTO tasks are the frontend issues or documentation, so maybe you would be interested in taking up a little bit complex task? If that so, let me know the language or framework you prefer. Thanks! |
@dannomayer or anyone else interested here is a first-timer-issue #5795 |
Hi, @Esh08 I have added your name to the list, whenever a first-timers issue will be created, we will assign it to you. |
