How to Apply as a Student/Contributor?

  1. Read the GSoC Contributor Agreement to check that you are elligible to participate.
  2. Consult the GSoC timeline and take note of the application deadline.
  3. Explore our ✨💡project ideas list💡✨ and pick a project you would like to contribute to.
  4. Draft a proposal (You can use the GSoC proposal template from Berkman Klein Center as a reference).
  5. Apply via the Google Summer of Code portal.

For guidance on developing proposals ask in the "GSoC" category on the Processing Forum. This is the best way to get feedback and develop your idea, and it allows others to learn from your questions and contribute their own thoughts.

For more information, read the Google Summer of Code FAQ.

Discover previous GSoC projects at the Processing Foundation

The Processing Foundation participated in GSoC from 2011 to 2015 and 2017 to 2023. We recommend you review some of these reports to gain valuable insights in the kind of projects we support. This will help you craft more effective proposals for this year's GSoC at the Processing Foundation.

AI text generation policy

Using LLMs like ChatGPT can enhance your writing by refining language and structure. However, the knowledge, ideas, and reasoning in your proposal must originate from you. AI serves as a support tool, not a substitute for human creativity. We value your originality and problem understanding. Any proposal submitted using AI tools should clearly indicate what part is your work and what part was enhanced or generated by AI. In such cases, no more than 25% of the proposal should be generated by AI.

Proposals generated entirely by AI will not be considered.
