feat: show pull requests in the merge queue as queued - #29960
A pull request waiting in GitHub's merge queue looks the same as any other open one. The sidebar badge and the thread details menu show a green "Open", and the menus still offer Merge for a PR the queue is already merging.
Change
The server now reads GitHub's isInMergeQueue and stores it next to isDraft: in PR summaries, PR details, thread PR snapshots and the branch's PR in git status. Clients show an amber "In merge queue" state with the merge icon, on web and mobile, wherever a PR state is shown:
the sidebar badge and its tooltip list
the thread details row and its hover card
the PR detail panel header and the PR tab icon
the thread's PR list panel
the mobile thread list and the mobile PR screen
The order is closed or merged, then draft, then in merge queue, then open.
A queued PR no longer offers Merge, Merge now, Enable auto-merge or a merge-method choice, on web or mobile. Disable auto-merge still shows when auto-merge is on. A list quick action's merge re-reads the PR just before merging, and that re-read now refuses a queued PR. The re-read runs only for callers that pick the merge method at that point. The PR panel's "Merge now" and the thread details confirm dialog already hide merge for a queued PR.
Entering or leaving the queue counts as a state change, so a detail read or branch lookup updates linked threads straight away instead of waiting for the next sync sweep. Snapshots keep an explicit false, so a PR that leaves the queue doesn't fall back to a cached true.
isInMergeQueue is read on Enterprise as well. Every supported GitHub Enterprise Server release (3.12 and later) has it, and @include can't hide a field from an older server, because GraphQL validates every field before it applies directives. The existing isMergeQueueEnabled field is read the same way. Other providers don't report a merge queue and are unchanged.
The thread details row's fallback icon now also receives isDraft, so a draft PR gets the draft icon there.
Not included: the PR list and command-palette PR search (listings don't read the field), the combined badge for PR stacks and threads with several PRs, agent-facing PR tool output, and a way to remove a PR from the queue.
Scope and approval
There's no prior Ideas discussion or maintainer approval for this. It's a new PR state, so it counts as a feature under CONTRIBUTING.md. It's open as a draft so maintainers can decide whether they want it.
Verification
Tests added or extended, each run with vp test run:
PullRequestSyncReactor.test.ts, PullRequestService.test.ts and GitManager.test.ts: the existing state-change tests now also cover entering and leaving the merge queue. Each new case fails without its fix and passes with it.
GitHub decoding in gitHubPullRequestJson.test.ts, GitHubPullRequestApi.test.ts and GitHubSourceControlProvider.test.ts.
ThreadStatusIndicators.test.ts (the badge label for a linked snapshot), pullRequestDetail.logic.test.ts, pullRequestList.logic.test.ts, and mobile pullRequestActions.test.ts (no merge or auto-merge offered for a queued PR).
vp run check:changed passes.
Manual check: I ran vp run dev with an empty dev database, added a project for a GitHub repository that uses a merge queue, and linked a PR that was in the queue to a thread. On main the sidebar badge and the thread details row showed it as a green "Open". On this branch, with the same thread and PR, they turned amber, the hover card read "In merge queue", and the row offered no Merge button. Live GitHub returned isInMergeQueue: true for a queued PR and false for a merged one. The repository name is blurred in the screenshots.
Before, on main, the queued PR shows as open:
After, on this branch, the same PR shows as in the merge queue:
Not checked: the mobile app on a device (only its unit tests and typecheck), a PR leaving the queue in the live app, and GitHub Enterprise Server.

The change carries GitHub merge-queue status through pull-request data and state updates. Mobile and web interfaces display queued pull requests and restrict merge actions while a pull request is in the queue.
Changes: Merge-queue status support
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Read and normalize queue status packages/contracts/src/*, packages/source-control-core/src/server/PullRequestProvider.ts, packages/source-control-github/src/server/*
Contracts and provider types add the optional isInMergeQueue field. GitHub queries request it, and response handling and tests cover its decoding and normalization.
Propagate status and publish changes apps/server/src/git/GitManager.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/PullRequestSyncReactor.ts, apps/server/src/pullRequest/PullRequestService.ts, related tests
Server pull-request readings and snapshots carry merge-queue status. Changes to the field can publish state-change notifications and update synchronized snapshots.
Present queued status in mobile and web apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/*, apps/mobile/src/features/threads/thread-list-v2-items.tsx, apps/mobile/src/state/thread-pr-presentation.ts, apps/web/src/components/RightPanelTabs.tsx, apps/web/src/components/ThreadStatusIndicators*, apps/web/src/components/chat/ThreadDetailsPrRow.tsx, apps/web/src/components/pullRequest/pullRequestIcons.tsx, apps/web/src/components/pullRequest/pullRequestPresentation.tsx, related tests
Open, non-draft pull requests in the queue use a queued status. Thread indicators and pull-request badges receive the queue flag and show the corresponding label, icon, and styling.
Restrict merge actions for queued pull requests apps/mobile/src/features/pull-requests/pullRequestActions*, packages/client-runtime/src/state/pullRequests.ts, apps/web/src/components/pullRequest/*, related tests
Mobile and web action logic blocks merge actions for queued pull requests. Pull-request detail and thread-panel controls suppress merge actions, and list quick actions retain only close where applicable.
pingdotgg/t3code#24991 — This change adds merge-queue status to pull-request data and displays a queued state. It does not add merge-group check status, which the issue also describes.

Merge Risk: High · up to 3e72f
This change can break pull-request reads on older GitHub Enterprise installations and leaves a queued mobile action menu misleadingly displaying unavailable merge methods; the compatibility failure should be fixed before merging.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "feat: show pull requests in the merge queue as queued" matches the main change. The PR adds an isInMergeQueue flag through the server, contracts, and clients, and shows queued PRs with an amber "In merge queue" state. It also removes merge actions for queued PRs. The title is a conventional commit, short, and specific.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It has Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, and the template's conventional-title guidance is followed in the PR title. The Problem section states the expected behavior. The Change section lists the affected surfaces and the reasons for the server and client edits. The Scope section acknowledges that the change is a feature without prior approval and is opened as a draft. The Verification section lists the focused tests, a manual check with before and after screenshots, and what was not checked. The template also asks for the model and harness used, and the description includes a Council review section that names the models and the harness. Scope approval is missing, so the description has one gap against the template.
Resolution
Consider adding a maintainer-approval link or discussion reference in Scope and approval. The description says none exists, and the template says feature work needs explicit approval. The change is drafted for maintainer decision, so the gap is acknowledged but unresolved.

Disable merge-method choices for queued pull requests.
If a queued pull request has auto-merge enabled, canAutoMerge remains true so the user can disable it. This condition also enables every merge-method choice, although the queued pull request cannot merge. Disable the method choices when pr.isInMergeQueue === true, but keep Disable auto-merge available. The PR objective excludes merge-method choices in the queue.

Compare isInMergeQueue by value, not by truthiness.
An accepted absent-to-false detail reading publishes a state-change event and queues a reactor sweep. snapshotFieldsOf preserves false, but syncEntry normalizes both values with === true. When queue status is the only changed field, thread.pull-request-link.sync is skipped. The linked-thread snapshot remains absent instead of preserving the explicit false value.

@coderabbitai Fixed in 3e72fff. snapshotFieldsEqual now compares isInMergeQueue by value, so a snapshot saved before the field existed picks up the first explicit false. The reactor test covers that case and fails on the old comparison.

Gate isInMergeQueue for Enterprise Server hosts that lack the field.
The summary, detail, and provider reads request isInMergeQueue for every configured GitHub host. The repository has no Enterprise Server version check, and the field is not guarded by @include as isRequired is. A GitHub Enterprise Server host before 3.12 can therefore receive a query that names an unknown field. Per the repository's stated contract, that failure can make the whole read fail. This affects the PR summary, detail, and provider reads, and the failure is introduced by this PR.
Apply the same host gate that isRequired uses. Add a variable to the summary query and guard the field with @include:

Pass mergeQueue from getPullRequestSummary with the same host check used for stacks. Make the matching change in PullRequestCore and PullRequestNode. Regenerate the matching .graphql.ts files. Map a missing isInMergeQueue to undefined in the decoders.

@coderabbitai Not changing this one. An @include gate doesn't help on a server that lacks the field: GraphQL validates every field in the document against the schema before directives are evaluated, so isInMergeQueue @include(if: false) still fails validation there. An earlier revision of this branch had that exact gate, and I removed it for that reason. Every supported GitHub Enterprise Server release (3.12 and later) has isInMergeQueue, and the existing isMergeQueueEnabled reads already select a merge-queue field without a gate. The PR description covers this.

@soorria You're right. GraphQL validates field selections before it evaluates @include, so the proposed gate would not protect against a missing schema field. With the stated GitHub Enterprise Server 3.12+ support baseline, the gate is unnecessary.
I withdraw this finding. No change is needed for this concern.

@soorria Thanks for the fix in 3e72fff824. Comparing isInMergeQueue by value preserves the distinction between a missing field and explicit false. The reported regression test covers that transition. I have not independently run the test.

The public queued PR was read-only, so menu absence alone does not establish permission-independent merge suppression. A GitHub API rate limit delayed details verification for over ten minutes; verification completed after reset. No source changes were needed.
