Refs #28870.

Antigravity can persist Claude thinking without its required signature. Reusing that native history then makes every later message fail. This change classifies the native signature error as broken history, persists the provider thread's error status, and routes the next message through the existing fresh-session context handoff. Ordinary errors and quota failures remain reusable; sign-out preserves broken status.

Unproven: live Google-authenticated Antigravity + Claude thinking/tool calls, steer, cold resume, and recovery after a full server restart. This PR does not repair upstream signature storage or remove the raw assistant error text. Readiness is withheld pending the requested live evidence.

Evidence

Head 833ae1ce7241912562f64a5d6c7e34e6eecadda9, rebased onto main 7c22e24e3fa1a3bb3a95f27aea000067f198fe7f. The conflict resolution retains main's rate-limit reset timestamps and RetryInfo parsing from #29594. Main's native-fork undo changes from #29902 remain intact. No takeover or superseding fix was found. An independent Codex review of this head and base found no actionable issues; both inline review threads remain resolved.

Current-head verification

Boat Linux, large worker, t3code template, job j_oxfml7ugxvslsa6l53rl, exit 0:

  • vp i completed.
  • vp run check:changed 7c22e24e3fa1a3bb3a95f27aea000067f198fe7f --concurrency 1 passed format, lint, both Knip passes, GraphQL generation, typechecks for 14 packages, and 134 tests in four files.
  • No patch was produced by the job. The rate-limit regression retains its reset timestamp, alongside the signature-recovery cases.

The cases cover missing and invalid signatures, quoted error text, reusable quota errors and reset timestamps, broken ACP terminals, persisted error-row resume refusal, and sign-out preserving broken status. These tests prove the recovery code path, not the live provider sequence.

Live-provider prerequisites

On physical corex, Linux x64, the official Antigravity ACP 1.4.5 archive was checked against its pinned SHA256. The real executable initialized successfully and advertised version 1.4.5. Its session/new response was:

{"error":{"code":-32000,"message":"Authentication required"}}

No saved ACP profile was found in the checked corex T3 provider directories. A separate inspection on shiv, macOS 27.0.1 arm64, found neither an official runtime nor a saved acp_token.json in the checked T3 and Antigravity locations; both inspected T3 settings files had zero Antigravity instances. No sign-in or credential copying was attempted.

macOS, iOS and POCO clients execute through the selected environment's provider runtime and cannot supply missing server credentials. Boat workers do not receive account credentials. The requested live before/after sequence therefore remains blocked by provider authentication.

Earlier-head fixture recordings

These captures are retained as fixture evidence for e78a2c3d067a87b5d1adc2fff121421f4b8c04c4, not as current-head or live-provider proof. Physical corex, Chromium web client, isolated real T3 server, local ACP subprocess fixture. The fixture writes native SQLite type-17 signature errors and retains poisoned sessions across process and server restarts.

Buggy parent 8623766f49304bc4eb1ed1b43331744852c9dc12: another message and a cold server restart both reuse the poisoned session and fail again.

Buggy-parent fixture failure

Earlier fixed head e78a2c3d067a87b5d1adc2fff121421f4b8c04c4: persist the signature failure as error, stop and restart the real isolated server with the same home, send another message, allocate a different native session containing the prior context marker in its actual ACP prompt, then complete another subsequent message.

Approvability

Verdict: Approved at af46368

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Antigravity threads with invalid thinking signatures now recover through a fresh native session using the existing context-handoff flow. The change is limited to failed-session recovery and preserves application thread identity.

Walkthrough

Antigravity prompt failures now include a reusable or broken thread disposition. The ACP adapter applies the disposition to thread status and failed terminal events, rejects resume attempts for threads in error status, and preserves error status during sign-out.

Changes: Prompt outcome and thread state

Layer / File(s) Summary
Classify Antigravity prompt failures
apps/server/src/provider/acp/AntigravityTurnOutcome.ts, apps/server/src/provider/acp/AntigravityTurnOutcome.test.ts
turnFailure now pairs failures with a thread disposition. Invalid saved thinking signatures produce a broken disposition; other provider failures produce a reusable disposition. Tests cover these outcomes and quoted signature-error text.
Apply disposition to turns and resumes
packages/provider-acp/src/server/adapter.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/AcpAdapterV2.test.ts
The ACP adapter applies the disposition during turn finalization, emits it on failed terminal events, and rejects resume for threads in error status. Tests cover reusable failures, broken-thread state, and resume rejection.
Preserve error status on sign-out
apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProviderTurnStartService.ts, apps/server/src/orchestration-v2/ProviderTurnStartService.test.ts
Sign-out preserves a provider thread's error status. Tests cover not_loaded and error statuses.

Fail with a tagged error, not a bare string.

resumeThread fails with the string "The native session history is unusable.". The outer mapError wraps this string as cause in ProviderAdapterResumeThreadError. A string has no tag or structured attributes. Callers and logs cannot distinguish this case from other resume failures without matching on text. The same file uses ProviderAdapter.ProviderAdapterProtocolError with a detail field for protocol-level refusals.

Gate the "Subagent work" control on a server capability.

The control shows for every Antigravity subagent thread. It does not check whether the connected server implements orchestration.getNativeChildWork.

The repository guidelines say new features must work for remote environments and for the public app.t3.codes client. That client can connect to an older server that has an Antigravity provider but no such RPC. On that server, Subagent work opens a dialog that shows only an RPC error.

Other features use environment.capabilities.* flags for this case. Add a nativeChildWork capability:

  1. Set it in apps/server/src/environment/ServerEnvironment.ts.
  2. Add it to the capabilities contract.
  3. Read it in ChatView.tsx and in apps/mobile/src/features/threads/ThreadDetailScreen.tsx.
  4. Hide the control when the flag is missing.

As per coding guidelines: "Remote ready ... we need to make sure new features are properly supported."

PR Batch Tester and others added 2 commits November 3, 2026 22:29
When Claude rejects Antigravity's saved history because a thinking block
lost its signature, every later prompt to that native session fails the
same way. The native error step is now read as a broken-thread failure:
the turn fails with INVALID_THINKING_SIGNATURE and threadDisposition
broken, which persists the provider thread as error. The ACP adapter
refuses to resume an error row, so the next turn takes the existing
resume-failure path into a fresh native session with a context handoff.
Quota and other API errors keep the native session.

preserved broken-history status when switching providers and starting queued runs in af463680f8. both paths previously overwrote the error marker and resumed the poisoned native session. the production change is two status assignments, with two regression cases added to the existing provider-switch test matrices.

both cases failed before the fix by reusing the same native session. blacksmith check:changed passes format, lint, knip, typechecks for 14 packages, and 196 tests. the full 46-case provider-switch suite passes, including fresh-session replacement and retained context.

live authenticated antigravity recovery remains unverified: this vm has no saved provider profile. the existing pr-body limitation remains in effect.
