fix(provider-acp): Devin turns no longer stall when a command leaves a background child holding its output - #28078
Devin runs agent commands through T3's ACP client terminals. A terminal published its exit status only after both stdout and stderr reached EOF, not when the process exited. A command that exits but leaves a child holding the inherited pipes (sh -c "setsid bash -c 'server' & sleep 1; echo done", the usual way to start a dev server) never got an exit status. terminal/wait_for_exit never answered and the turn stalled until the user steered. terminal/release and disposeAll waited on the same status, and the terminal kept counting against the live-terminal limit.
Change
When the process exits, the terminal waits at most 250 ms for its output readers to drain what the command already wrote. It then publishes the exit status whether or not the pipes have closed. The readers keep running past that deadline, so a background child such as a dev server never gets a broken pipe, and its later output still lands in the size-limited buffer.
vp test run packages/provider-acp/src/server/clientTerminals.test.ts: 14/14 pass. The new test, answers wait_for_exit when a command exits while a background child holds its output, fails on main with Received: "no answer while the background child holds stdout/stderr". It also checks that output is still read after the exit answer.
vp run check:changed passes on the merge with main: format, lint, knip, typecheck for 13 packages, tests.
Runtime transcript: a scratch driver (not committed) called the real makeAcpClientTerminals with shellCommands: true, as the Devin flavour does, and gave each wait_for_exit 10 s.
A: reporter's literal command, setsid child with inherited stdio
no answer after 10 s; terminal/output has done\n but no exitStatus
exit 0 in 1274 ms (the command's own sleep 1 takes most of that)
B: plain & background child
no answer after 10 s
exit 0 in 262 ms
C: exec-args form, Node spawns a detached child with stdio: 'inherit'
no answer after 10 s
exit 0 in 324 ms
D: control, child stdio redirected to /dev/null
exit 0 in 1028 ms
exit 0 in 1021 ms
On this branch, terminal/output carries exitStatus in every variant. The background children were still alive after both runs, as intended, and were then killed by PID.
Not checked: a live Devin session, because the Devin ACP agent isn't available in this environment, and native Windows or macOS. The changed path is the shared Node server, so web, desktop and mobile clients are all covered by the same server change.

…ed pipes
Adds a failing test that reproduces #28067: a Devin shell
command that exits while a background child still holds its stdout/stderr
never gets an exit status, so terminal/wait_for_exit does not answer.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… the terminal's output
A terminal's exit status was published only once both stdout and stderr hit
EOF. When the command exited but a background child inherited its pipes,
EOF never came, so terminal/wait_for_exit, release and disposeAll hung and
the agent turn stalled.
Publish the exit status on process exit after a bounded 250 ms drain of the
output pumps. The pumps keep reading afterwards, so a background child
never sees a broken pipe.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — ACP terminals now wait at most 250 ms for output draining after process exit, preventing background children from indefinitely blocking completion. Output collection continues under existing limits, keeping the change narrowly scoped.

Walkthrough
Client terminals now bound stdout and stderr pump waiting after process exit. A live regression test checks that waitForExit completes before a background child writes to the output stream.
Changes: ACP terminal exit completion

Summary
Bounded output drain and regression coverage packages/provider-acp/src/server/clientTerminals.ts, packages/provider-acp/src/server/clientTerminals.test.ts
After the process exits, the terminal waits up to 250 milliseconds for both output pumps before recording exit status and completing the exit notification. The live test checks that waitForExit returns before the background child writes to the stream.
pingdotgg/t3code#24596: Both changes affect ACP terminal completion; that PR bounds forced termination, while this PR bounds output draining after process exit.
pingdotgg/t3code#23965: It includes an ACP regression case for stdout remaining open after child exit, though it focuses on resource-scope cleanup.
pingdotgg/t3code#21767: It tests process exit while stdout remains open and changes ACP teardown for launcher descendants.
This change lets terminal exit status be published even when a background child keeps the output pipes open, which fixes the stalled Devin turns. The only remaining concern is that the new regression test is POSIX-only and would fail if run on Windows. Add a platform guard or a Windows-specific fixture; the concern is low-risk and does not affect production behavior.

Explanation
Issue [#28067] requires terminal/wait_for_exit to resolve after the command process exits when a child keeps stdout or stderr open. clientTerminals.ts now waits up to OUTPUT_DRAIN_AFTER_EXIT (250 millis) after process exit, then records and publishes the exit status while the pumps continue reading. The change also lets release and disposal complete through the same exit Deferred, and it removes exited terminals from the live-terminal count. The new live test covers a background child holding output, verifies { exitCode: 0, signal: null }, and verifies later output remains readable.

Make the subprocess fixture work on Windows.
The test has no platform guard. The manual Windows workflow runs all non-server package tests, including packages/provider-acp. With shellCommands: true, clientTerminals.ts:145 enables the shell for this command. Windows does not interpret $T3_TEST_NODE, &, or $! as POSIX does, so the intended background child is not created and the test can fail or stall at its output assertion.
Use a Windows-specific fixture or guard this POSIX fixture on Windows. The normal CI test jobs run on Linux, but the repository does provide a Windows test path.

Problem
Devin runs agent commands through T3's ACP client terminals. A terminal published its exit status only after both stdout and stderr reached EOF, not when the process exited. A command that exits but leaves a child holding the inherited pipes (
sh -c "setsid bash -c 'server' & sleep 1; echo done", the usual way to start a dev server) never got an exit status.terminal/wait_for_exitnever answered and the turn stalled until the user steered.terminal/releaseanddisposeAllwaited on the same status, and the terminal kept counting against the live-terminal limit.Change
