fix(mobile): review diff no longer goes blank after switching sections - #27960
On Android, the review sheet's Uncommitted section can show the right counts in its header (Uncommitted · +1 · -1) and an empty diff surface, and Refresh current diff does not bring the diff back. Reproduced on main (e2a6267) on a Pixel 9 / API 36 emulator with a git repo whose committed greeting.txt (hello) is changed to hello world: cold-launch the app, open the thread's review (it opens on Changes and renders), then select Uncommitted.
On a section switch the JS sends the new rows through the imperative setRowsJson call, and the native view's contentResetKey prop arrives separately. On Android the rows can land first. The late setContentResetKey then clears them. Changes and Uncommitted carry the same rows here, so nothing sends them again and the surface stays blank.
Change
setRowsJson now carries the content reset key it was sent for. The Android and iOS modules apply that key through the existing setContentResetKey before they apply the rows, so a reset can no longer clear rows that were meant for the same content. The contentResetKey prop stays, and when it arrives after the rows with the same key it does nothing. Surfaces without a contentResetKey send "", which matches the native default. Both platforms change because they share the JS call.
renders identical rows after switching sections when the reset key prop lands late in apps/mobile/src/features/diffs/nativeReviewDiffSurface.test.tsx fails on main (expected 'Blank native surface' to be 'Rendered diff') and passes with the fix. The rest of that file and apps/mobile/src/features/review/*.test.ts pass (59/59). vp run check:changed passes.
The Android dev client (fingerprint b80491d2…) and the iOS simulator dev client on EAS (ca3eb306…) both build with the native change.
Captures were taken at 26467b4. The head adds only a merge of main, which touches none of these files.
Real app: Pixel 9, Android 16 / API 36, dark, 1080 × 2424, 2.625 px/dp, font scale 1.0. Each side ran its own dev server on a fresh database, with the same driver. Diff images crop the top 144 px (status bar clock) and are otherwise unaligned. Diff0 is 0% fuzz, DiffT is 5%. The only differences are inside the restored file, hunk and line rows; the header, counts and empty area match pixel for pixel.
iPhone 17 Pro / iOS 27.2 / light: cold launch, Changes → Uncommitted, pull to refresh, switch back and return
Pixel 9 / dark: native source file view, wrap off, scroll and switch files (keyed by path)
Pixel 9 / dark: review-comment preview in the composer context sheet (no reset key)
Not checked: the pull request diff screen and the review guide excerpt. They go through the same keyed and unkeyed delivery shown above. No iOS "before" capture: the bug was reported and reproduced on Android only.
Seed and driver scripts (synthetic fixture, not committed)
seed.sh <dir> creates the repository. The project is added and a thread created through the app (one prompt: "Reply with OK only. Do not run tools or edit files.").
cold-review.py <session> <thread title> <side> drives the recorded sequence with agent-device. settled.py keeps a still only when two screenshots 500 ms apart are identical.
These tests reproduce #27930: when a section switch keeps identical rows
and Android applies the new contentResetKey prop after the setRowsJson
call, native clears the rows it just received and the surface stays blank.

…tions
On Android the contentResetKey prop could land after the setRowsJson call
for the new section, so native cleared rows it had just applied. Identical
rows (Changes vs Uncommitted) were never redelivered and the surface stayed
blank. setRowsJson now carries the reset key and native applies the reset
before the rows; the late prop is a no-op through the existing equality
guard.

Walkthrough
The diff dispatcher now passes a content reset key with rows JSON. The Android and iOS modules apply that key before updating rows. A regression test covers section changes when the reset-key prop arrives late.

Reset-key propagation and regression coverage apps/mobile/src/features/diffs/nativeReviewDiffSurface.ts, apps/mobile/modules/t3-review-diff/android/src/main/java/expo/modules/t3reviewdiff/T3ReviewDiffModule.kt, apps/mobile/modules/t3-review-diff/ios/T3ReviewDiffModule.swift, apps/mobile/src/features/diffs/nativeReviewDiffSurface.test.tsx
The dispatcher passes the reset key with rows JSON, defaulting to an empty string when absent. Both native modules set the key before updating rows. The test mock models reset-key changes and tests late prop updates while switching sections.
The Android review-diff module references an undefined variable and will not build, which blocks Android builds of the app. Change it to pass contentResetKey before merging.

Explanation
The title names the main change: it fixes the mobile review diff that went blank after switching sections. It matches the objectives and the described Android/iOS change to setRowsJson and the reset key. The title is short and follows the conventional commit form the template recommends.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's required sections: Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification. The Problem section gives reproduction steps and the expected behavior. The Change section explains the fix across Android and iOS. Verification lists a failing-then-passing test, device captures, and checks. The Scope section links issue #27930 and does not show maintainer approval of direction. The template also asks for the agent model and harness, and the author gave them. The description is mostly complete. The only gap is the missing maintainer approval comment or triage link in the scope section.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain in the shared native review-diff delivery path. The JavaScript change carries the reset key with row delivery. The Android and iOS modules apply the key before rows. The regression test models the reported ordering race. The iOS change supports the shared JavaScript call and is related to the fix.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #27930 requires the Android Uncommitted diff to render and remain correct after refresh. The JavaScript dispatcher and native setRowsJson ordering target that race, and the regression test covers a late reset-key prop. However, T3ReviewDiffModule.kt calls setContentResetKey(resetKey) in the contentResetKey prop callback, but resetKey is not declared. The Android module therefore cannot compile, so the required Android fix is not deliverable.
Resolution
Change the Android prop callback to call view.setContentResetKey(contentResetKey). Re-run the Android build and the relevant automated tests.

I reproduced this on a physical POCO M3 Pro (M2103K19PI), Android 13, using an isolated server and a synthetic repository: committed greeting.txt contains hello, and the working copy contains hello world. On baseline 49f6cbacc4ef426383187836392868fbc9103f59, Changes renders; switching to Uncommitted leaves the correct +1 · -1 counts and a persistently blank diff. Refresh does not recover it. Both native wrapper and canvas had full 1080 × 2115 bounds, ruling out a zero-size canvas in this reproduction.
My code investigation independently points to the same ordering race described here: the imperative rows delivery and Fabric reset prop arrive independently; a late reset clears the rows and invalidates their decode. I did not instrument that ordering on the phone itself.
Before this takeover, I tested an unpublished fix at 42664a2cddbc1b23a8bfb0a1acee064c49263aa3 that carries the content key with the rows and applies it before decoding. On the same phone and fixture, Uncommitted renders after switching, Refresh retains the rows, and switching back to Changes and returning works. A TypeScript fixture also renders with syntax colors. These results cover my local commit, not this PR's head. Nothing was pushed, and I am stopping work here.
Completed checks for that local commit:
JS regression suite: cd apps/mobile && vp test run src/features/diffs/nativeReviewDiffSurface.test.tsx — 9/9 pass. The added unchanged-rows/content-key case fails with baseline JS restored and passes with the fix.
vp run check:changed — pass, including format, lint, knip, affected typechecks, tests and React compiler checks.
Unverified by this thread: this PR's implementation, native iOS compilation and behavior, and native mobile lint. The queued iOS build had not started and was cancelled at takeover. Phone connection and local servers were cleaned up.
Physical POCO M3 / Android 13, baseline: switch to Uncommitted and Refresh leave the diff blank.

Physical POCO M3 / Android 13, unpublished local commit 42664a2: switch, Refresh and return switch retain the diff.

Pass the declared reset key.
The lambda declares contentResetKey, but this line references resetKey, which is not declared in the file. The Android module will fail to compile. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
