fix(opencode): a command that never calls the model no longer leaves the turn running - #27378
On OpenCode 2, a registered slash command whose callback never calls the model left the T3 turn running forever. The thread showed "Working", Stop failed with OpenCode session … had nothing running to stop, and follow-ups were rejected with "is stopping and cannot be steered". Reproduced on main with OpenCode 2.2.2 and a plugin command whose execute does nothing: session.command returns 204, OpenCode starts no execution, and no session.execution.* event ever arrives to end the turn.
Change
After session.command returns, the OpenCode 2 adapter checks whether the command started anything. If an execution start has already been seen, or session.active lists the session, it does nothing: that execution's events end the turn as before. Otherwise it reads the session history past the boundary it recorded before the command. If no user, assistant or idle item is there, nothing ran, and the turn ends as completed (or interrupted, if Stop came in meanwhile). If such an item is there, an execution already ran and its events may still be on the way, so the turn is left to them. If either check fails, the turn stays as it was and a warning is logged.
The opencode2_command replay fixture gains the session.active request and reply the adapter now makes after the command. The frames were added by hand, and the fixture metadata says so.
finishes a workspace command that never starts an execution: fails on main with the /noop command turn never ended: expected undefined to equal 'completed', passes here.
ends a command from execution events that arrive after its reply: a model-calling command that finishes before its SSE events arrive ends failed from those events, not completed, and offers no continuation. It fails without the history check (expected 'completed' to equal 'failed').
The whole adapter file and OpenCodeReplayFixtures.integration.test.ts pass (107 tests). vp run check:changed passes on the merge with main.
Runtime, real OpenCode (synthetic plugin with noop, which does nothing, and ask, which calls ctx.session.prompt), raw protocol right after the 204:
OpenCode 2.2.2 and 2.0.28, identical:
noop command=HTTP204 in session.active=False history after command: []
ask command=HTTP204 in session.active=True history: [user, assistant, idle] events: execution.started, execution.succeeded
review command=HTTP204 in session.active=True history: [user, assistant, ...] events: execution.started
T3 web dev server with OpenCode 2.2.2, fresh database each side:
Stays "Working" (1m+); Stop logs ProviderAdapterProtocolError: … had nothing running to stop; a follow-up is rejected with "is stopping and cannot be steered"
Run completes in about 1 s; a follow-up prompt and /ask then run and complete normally, each as a single run
Before/after screenshots are in the first comment below.
Not checked: macOS desktop (the reporter's platform). The fix is in the server adapter and platform-independent. Older OpenCode 2.0.x versions than 2.0.28 were not run.

…ver ends its turn
A recognized OpenCode 2 command whose handler never starts an execution
returns 204 and emits no session.execution.* events, so the adapter
never ends the T3 turn. This test reproduces #27348 and fails on main.

An OpenCode 2 command whose handler never prompts the model returns 204
and emits no session.execution events, so the T3 turn stayed active
forever: the thread showed Working, Stop found nothing to stop, and
follow-ups were rejected.
After session.command returns, the adapter now reads session.active.
If OpenCode does not list the session and no execution start was seen,
it ends the turn under the event lock (interrupted if Stop was pressed,
held behind pending steers like any other completed execution). If the
check fails, the turn is left as before for reconnect reconciliation.

A command missing from session.active may still have run an execution whose
events trail the HTTP replies. Before ending the turn as completed, read the
history newer than the command's boundary: a user, assistant, or idle item
means an execution ran, so its own events end the turn.

Runtime captures, T3 web dev server with OpenCode 2.2.2 and a synthetic plugin command /noop (no model call). Before = main c8a606c, after = this branch.
Repro scripts (synthetic, not part of the PR). OpenCode plugin directory registered via { "plugins": ["<dir>"] } in the OpenCode 2 config:
// Synthetic repro plugin: `noop` never calls a model; `ask` hands a prompt to the session.exportdefault{id: "repro-noop-command",setup: async(ctx)=>{awaitctx.command.transform((editor)=>{editor.add({name: "noop",description: "Completes without a model call",execute: async()=>{}});editor.add({name: "ask",description: "Prompts the model",execute: async({ sessionID })=>{awaitctx.session.prompt({ sessionID,text: "Reply with exactly: HELLO"});},});});},};
Raw protocol driver (session.active and history right after the 204):
#!/usr/bin/env bash# For each command: POST it, then immediately read session/active; record execution events.set -u

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — OpenCode commands that start no model execution now finish their turn instead of leaving it running. Activity and history checks preserve normal execution-event handling, keeping the change narrowly scoped.
You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more.
Recognized OpenCode commands now trigger session activity and history checks. If the session is inactive and no relevant history appears, the adapter completes the active, non-busy turn. Tests cover empty execution, delayed events, and reconnect reconciliation.
The adapter checks session activity and recent history after a recognized command. It completes the active, non-busy turn when no execution evidence appears. Tests cover commands with no execution events, delayed execution events, and a running session during reconnect reconciliation.
Stopping a no-execution command during reconciliation can report an error and mark it completed instead of interrupted.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue [#27348] requires that a registered OpenCode command that finishes without a model call must not leave the T3 turn active, and that Stop and later thread activity must not stay blocked. Diff at packages/provider-opencode/src/server/v2/adapter.ts: after client.session.command returns, the adapter checks session.active and then the message history past the recorded boundary. If neither shows an execution, it ends the turn as completed, or interrupted when Stop arrived first. If an execution is found, the turn is left to its events. Coverage: the test 'finishes a workspace command that never starts an execution' in OpenCode2AdapterV2.test.ts covers the reported case and is stated to fail on main. The test 'ends a command from execution events that arrive after its reply' covers the case where execution events follow the reply. The PR also gives runtime captures on OpenCode 2.2.2 and 2.0.28 with a synthetic no-op command, showing the turn completes and a follow-up run succeeds. This addresses the stuck turn and the downstream fork and follow-up failures described in the issue. Remaining uncertainty, not a failed requirement: (1) the checks assume the command's execution state is visible in session.active or history when the 204 reply arrives. The runtime captures support this on two OpenCode versions, but this is not proven for all versions. (2) On a check timeout, the adapter logs a warning and leaves the turn unchanged, so the stuck state can persist in that case. (3) The replay fixture's session.active frames were hand-written and are labeled as such in the fixture metadata. (4) Older OpenCode 2.0.x versions and macOS desktop were not run.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed files relate to the linked issue. (a) adapter.ts changes only the workspace command branch of submit: it records the history boundary, checks activity and history after session.command, and completes or leaves the turn. This is the path the issue describes. (b) OpenCode2AdapterV2.test.ts adds two replay tests for the no-execution and delayed-event cases. It also adds a session.active frame to the existing dropped-stream command case, which the new check requires. (c) The opencode2_command replay fixture adds session.active request and reply frames that the new adapter behavior sends, and its metadata states they were added by hand. No unrelated refactoring, release changes, or unrelated feature code appear in the reviewed summary or diffs.
