fix(acp): Devin terminals no longer inherit the launching thread's T3 MCP credentials - #26652
ACP client terminals (Devin runs every command through them) start from the server's own environment and then add the session's T3_ACP_MCP_* variables. Agents that T3 Code launches get these variables in their process environment, so a T3 server started from an agent's shell, which is the usual way to run a dev server while building T3 Code with T3 Code, also has the outer thread's T3_ACP_MCP_ENDPOINT, T3_ACP_MCP_AUTHORIZATION and T3_ACP_MCP_NODE.
In that inner server, a Devin terminal for a session with no environment entry of its own (no T3 MCP session for the thread, or a session ID the adapter didn't claim) runs with the outer thread's endpoint and token. Following the ACP fallback instructions, the agent calls T3 tools through acp-mcp-call from that terminal. Those calls go to the outer server and act as the outer thread, for example delegate_task creates work there. Expected: such a terminal gets no T3 MCP credentials and the tools are reported as unavailable.
Change
makeAcpClientTerminals now builds the inherited environment once (options.environment, or HostProcess.Environment when that isn't set) and removes every T3_ACP_MCP_* key from it, matching the prefix case-insensitively because Windows treats variable names that way. Each terminal's environment is that base plus the session environment plus the request's env. So T3_ACP_MCP_* only comes from the session T3 assigned or from an explicit request.
The environment is now always passed explicitly. Before, the child process inherited process.env implicitly when no option was set, and that path would have kept the leaked variables.
On Windows, the three layers are merged by case-insensitive variable name, and the last entry wins with its own spelling, including repeated names within a request's env. A plain object spread kept both PATH and a request's Path. Node then passed only one of them, picked by sort order rather than by layer, so a requested search path could be ignored. Other platforms merge exactly as before.
Scope and approval
There is no linked issue. This should qualify as a very small, focused fix for an obvious bug: a terminal for one thread should never act with another thread's T3 credentials. The change is in clientTerminals.ts (+32/-11, including a small environment-merge helper), and one existing test case gains a row and two assertions. It doesn't change the adapter, contracts or clients. It also doesn't change the variables T3 assigns to known sessions or to a request's own env.
This is a misattribution bug within a single local user's setup. It isn't a cross-user exposure. The leaked token belongs to the same user, and it only reaches a server that the same user started from inside their own T3 Code session.
Verification
I added an unknown session row to the existing case "resolves terminal environment from the requesting ACP session" in packages/provider-acp/src/server/clientTerminals.test.ts. In that row the terminals' base environment holds T3_ACP_MCP_AUTHORIZATION=launching-thread-token and a mixed-case t3_Acp_Mcp_Endpoint, and environmentForSession returns undefined. The test also checks that an ordinary inherited variable is still passed through. With a case-sensitive prefix match the case fails because the known session's terminal also receives launching-thread-endpoint.
The same case now takes its base environment from HostProcess.Environment instead of the environment option, so it covers the default path where the option is omitted. On main that path dropped the inherited environment whenever a session or request supplied variables, and inherited process.env implicitly only when both were empty.
The same case runs with HostProcess.Platform set to win32, so the Windows merge is checked on every OS. The base environment holds T3_TEST_OVERRIDE=inherited, each request sends T3_TEST_OVERRIDE=first, t3_Test_Override=second, T3_TEST_OVERRIDE=request in that order, and the child prints every spelling of that name it received. The expected result is only T3_TEST_OVERRIDE=request. Without the case-insensitive merge the child receives a second spelling, and when the request's entries are collapsed into an object before merging it receives the wrong value and spelling (t3_Test_Override=second); either way the case fails.
On main, vp test run src/server/clientTerminals.test.ts -t "resolves terminal environment from the requesting ACP session" (from packages/provider-acp) fails: the known sessions' terminals lose the inherited T3_TEST_INHERITED and receive both spellings of the override.
With the fix, all 13 tests in clientTerminals.test.ts pass.
Neighbouring adapter tests also pass (85 tests): vp test run src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/AcpAdapterV2.test.ts src/orchestration-v2/Adapters/AcpRegistryAdapterV2.test.ts (from apps/server). They include the Devin terminal and session-environment cases.
vp run check:changed upstream/main passes: format, lint, knip, typecheck (13 packages) and tests.
Runtime transcript: real child processes through makeAcpClientTerminals with shellCommands: true, as the ACP adapter configures it, for a session with no MCP entry while the server's environment carries the launching thread's credentials:
Known sessions are unaffected: the adapter's per-session environment supplies the session's T3_ACP_MCP_ENDPOINT, T3_ACP_MCP_AUTHORIZATION and T3_ACP_MCP_NODE, plus T3_ACP_MCP_ENTRYPOINT when one is needed. I could not run this against a real Devin agent in a nested T3 server, and I did not run the Windows merge on a Windows machine.

Walkthrough
ACP terminal creation now merges inherited, session-specific, and request-provided environment variables. It filters inherited T3_ACP_MCP_ variables and matches variable names case-insensitively on Windows. Tests cover known and unknown sessions and duplicate request variables.

Summary
Build and pass terminal environment packages/provider-acp/src/server/clientTerminals.ts, packages/provider-acp/src/server/clientTerminals.test.ts
Terminal creation uses the configured environment or host environment as its base, filters inherited T3_ACP_MCP_ variables regardless of case, then applies session and request variables. It always passes the merged environment to the child process. Tests cover session-specific values, unknown sessions, inherited values, and case-insensitive duplicate request names.
No material merge-blocking risk was identified. The real Devin and Windows paths remain untested.

Checked exact head e0c99144210f165952d3bae500be4cb10b0d9b2a on a disposable Linux Boat VM. No source changes or pushes.
Started fetched github/main (32ecd71726) in ../main, ran vp i, and launched its real dev app with isolated empty state. Used repository Playwright with /usr/bin/google-chrome, paired in the web app, added a project pointing at /home/user/t3code, installed Devin 3000.11.234 through the ACP Registry, and submitted a real Devin turn requesting pwd and the repository root. The running server rejected it with:
AcpRequestError: Please log in to use Devin. Use `/login` to authenticate again.
Stopped main by its captured process-group PID before starting the exact PR head. Repeated installation, project creation, and the same Devin turn in the PR dev app. It returned the same authentication error before creating a terminal.
Nearby paths on the PR head worked through the real web client and server:
Codex gpt-6.1-sol executed pwd, git rev-parse --show-toplevel, and the requested marker. Both paths returned /home/user/t3code.
Reopened the durable thread in another browser context and submitted a follow-up real Codex turn. It returned PR26652_RESUME_OK.
Typed commands in the app terminal drawer. It returned PR26652_TERMINAL_OK and the correct working directory/repository root.
Existing clientTerminals.test.ts: 13 passed, run through blacksmith-check after installing dependencies in the worker. This is supporting test coverage, not proof of the real Devin path.
The changed credential filtering remains unverified in the real app. I could not reproduce the leak on main or prove its absence on the PR because this VM has no authenticated Devin account. Devin sign-in also stayed at "Starting sign-in" until cancelled. A usable Devin account is needed to continue.
Only Devin's ACP registry adapter enables the changed client-terminal implementation. Codex and the ordinary app terminal drawer do not exercise it. The exact regression additionally requires a terminal request from an unclaimed/no-MCP ACP session in a server inheriting an outer thread's T3_ACP_MCP_*. I did not replace that provider flow with a mock or a direct function harness.
Windows environment-name precedence raised in review, macOS, native mobile/desktop shells, and remote/relay/tunnel modes were not exercised on this Linux VM. No visual product changes are present, so there are no before/after visual claims.
… MCP credentials
ACP client terminals built their environment from the server's own
environment, then layered the session's T3_ACP_MCP_* variables on top.
When the T3 server was itself started from an agent's shell inside T3
Code, its environment already held that outer thread's MCP endpoint and
token, so a terminal for a session with no environment of its own ran
with them and T3 tool calls from it landed on the outer thread.
Drop T3_ACP_MCP_* from the inherited environment so those variables only
ever come from the session or the request.
On Windows, merge the inherited, session and request layers by
case-insensitive name so a later layer's `Path` replaces an inherited
`PATH`; Node would otherwise pass only one spelling, chosen by sort order.
