fix(server): preserve reconnect sync progress on unreliable networks - #26422
Unreliable connections can get stuck in a sync loop: reconnect, start downloading a large snapshot, fail partway through, then start the same download from scratch. Because an incomplete snapshot cannot be applied, the client's last update pointer never moves forward.
Change
Stream normal thread catch-up in small pages instead of replacing large replays with a single snapshot. The client applies received events and advances its last update pointer before synchronization finishes. If the connection drops, the next connection resumes from that progress.
Bound replay reads by event count and payload size, preserve event order, and skip unknown events without truncating catch-up. A lightweight existence query detects recreated threads without restoring the replay's payloads first. First-time loads and recreated threads retain the existing snapshot behavior. Individual oversized events remain intact.
Scope and approval
Submitted under CONTRIBUTING.md's exception for a very small, focused fix of an obvious bug. The defect is that reconnect retries can repeatedly discard transfer progress and never catch up. This change uses the existing event cursor and replay transport to preserve that progress; it adds no new user workflow, setting, or wire contract. No prior triaged issue or maintainer approval is claimed.

Covers interrupted large replays, byte-heavy payloads, unknown events, deferred page fetching, and bypassing payload statistics on ordinary reconnects.

Targeted lint, formatting, and diff checks pass.

Walkthrough
The event store now supports byte-bounded replay pages and sequence-range event checks. Thread subscriptions use incremental pages to catch up through the high-water mark, then resume live delivery. Tests cover replay continuation and client synchronization across session replacement.
readAgentEvents accepts an optional page-byte limit. The query retains the first event even if it exceeds the limit, and byte-limited pagination can continue after a short page. The store also exposes hasAgentEvent for a thread, event type, and sequence range. Tests cover the existence check, payload changes during page consumption, and reading an earlier page when a later payload is malformed.
Thread catch-up and synchronization apps/server/src/ws.ts, apps/server/src/ws.test.ts, packages/client-runtime/src/state/threads-sync.test.ts
For resume ranges without thread.created, thread replay reads incremental pages and advances through the captured high-water mark. It then emits a completion marker and resumes live delivery. Tests cover large event counts, padded payloads, unknown rows, and client resubscription after an update.
Replay sizing is bounded, and no merge-blocking issue remains identified.

Explanation
The title "fix(server): preserve reconnect sync progress on unreliable networks" matches the main change: reconnect catch-up now streams bounded pages and keeps the client's update pointer, so a dropped connection resumes from saved progress instead of restarting the snapshot download. It follows the conventional commit format the template requests and is specific enough for a teammate scanning history. The title names the server scope, while the changeset also touches the client-runtime package (threads-sync). That is a minor gap and does not make the title misleading.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It has Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, and each is substantively filled in. The Problem section explains the reconnect loop and the expected behavior. The Change section explains the paged streaming, the existence query, and the preserved snapshot path for first-time loads and recreated threads. The Scope section cites the CONTRIBUTING.md exception for a very small, focused bug fix and states that no prior issue or approval is claimed. The Verification section lists the exact test command, the 79 passing tests, and the TypeScript and lint checks. It also states what was not run, which is browser and native mobile verification. The model and harness line is present at the end, as the template asks. Two points are weak. The scope justification is contestable, since the change touches server replay, persistence, and client sync, and a reviewer may not agree it is a very small fix. The description also does not mention the follow-up commit that the objectives reference. Neither gap leaves the template largely incomplete, so the check passes.

Bound the replay page before its payloads are read.
readApplicationRows applies LIMIT ${input.limit} inside the base query, and the byte window is a separate outer query over that result. The outer filter depends on window sums, so it cannot shrink the inner read. With the reader's 500-row page size, up to 500 payload_json values are read and materialized for one replay page. Each page returns only the events that fit the byte budget, which can be one large event. The same work repeats on each following page, so the cursor advances slowly on threads with large events.
Select the byte-bounded rows first, using the same size measure the outer filter uses, then apply restoredPayloadJson only to the selected rows. Check that the byte accounting still matches restored payload sizes for prompt-anchored events before changing the query.

@coderabbitai Addressed the outside-diff finding from review 5681979109 in 03ebabc. The byte-bounded path now materializes only candidate IDs, then walks restored byte sizes in sequence order until the page fills, with at most one overflow candidate. It no longer restores all 500 candidate payloads for every page. Sizing still uses the actual restored JSON, so prompt anchors, Unicode, quotes, and newlines are accounted for correctly.
The regression test fails with the previous query because it processes a malformed payload on a later page before delivering the first page. It passes with the bounded walk; full paged replay also preserves every prompt-backed event. All 79 focused tests, server typechecking, and targeted lint pass.

@Qard Thanks for the fix. I inspected 03ebabcab. The query now materializes only candidate IDs and bounds payload restoration to the page plus at most one overflow candidate. It still sizes the restored JSON.
The regression test covers prompt-backed replay and first-page delivery before processing a later malformed payload. This addresses the outside-diff finding. I did not rerun the reported checks.
