fix(web, mobile): replace sparkles icons and ban them with a lint rule - #25422
T3 Code used the sparkles icon in 12 places. Sparkles only says "this is AI", and in a coding-agent app that's true of almost everything, so it never told you what a control does. The worst case was the Auto runtime mode: next to Lock, PenLine and LockOpen, it was the one icon that said nothing about permissions.
Fix
Each sparkles icon now either shows what the control does or is removed:

"Fix failing checks" row
Mobile
Sparkles

Agent / agent-tool work rows
Mobile
Sparkles
Robot, matching web's bot for agent-tool rows
The mobile robot is a new robot name in AppSymbol. It draws Tabler's IconRobot on both platforms, because SF Symbols has no robot. ellipsis.bubble maps to Tabler IconMessageDots on Android. wrench.and.screwdriver, which the menu's "Address feedback" item uses, also gets an Android mapping (Tabler IconTool); before this, Android drew nothing for it.
A new lint rule, t3code/no-sparkles-icon, keeps sparkles out of apps/web, apps/mobile and apps/desktop. It reports:
sparkle imports from lucide-react (Sparkles, Sparkle, WandSparkles and their aliases);
Tabler sparkle imports;
the sparkles, sparkle, wand.and.sparkles and auto_awesome symbol names.
projectIconOptions.ts is excluded so users can still pick sparkles or ✨ as their own project icon.

There is no capture for the mobile agent work rows. With real data they don't show this icon: subagents render as status cards, and agent items render the brain icon.

no-sparkles-icon.test.ts covers the import, symbol-name and allowed cases.
Running the rule over apps/web/src, apps/mobile/src and apps/desktop/src before the swaps reported exactly the remaining sparkles spots.

current-main verification
merged github/main (f58fad0416) without rebasing and pushed 4a2b7bfe27 to the existing fork branch. main's removed subagent card and model-picker indicator remain removed; its full-access shield icon is preserved. final diff: 10 presentation files, +38/-27. two independent source reviewers found no blocker or should-fix findings on this head.
blacksmith vp run check:changed passed format, lint, both knip passes, three package typechecks, 22 existing browser tests, and 14 compiler checks. system chrome verified supervised/full-access selection and auto persistence across reload. captures compare main's actual runtime-mode component with the final component using matching app state. native mobile, electron, artifact cards, provider execution, and guide generation were not re-exercised this pass; earlier evidence above applies to the pre-merge head.
Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This change replaces decorative sparkles with descriptive icons and removes artifact-card badges across web and mobile. Its effects are limited to presentation; product defaults, permissions, and action behavior remain unchanged.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title correctly identifies the sparkles icon replacements, but it also claims that the PR adds a lint rule to ban sparkles. The final change removed that rule, its tests, registration, and configuration override, so the title is materially inaccurate.
Resolution
Update the title to remove the lint-rule claim, for example: "fix(web, mobile): replace sparkles icons with semantic symbols".
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description is detailed and includes problem, changes, evidence, and verification. However, it does not match the final change: it still claims that the no-sparkles-icon lint rule and its tests were added, while the objectives state that they were removed. It also lacks a Scope and approval section and uses Fix and Validation instead of the template headings Change and Verification.
Resolution
Update the description to reflect the final diff, including the removed lint rule, tests, registration, and configuration changes, and correct the final file and line counts. Add a ## Scope and approval section with the linked issue or explicit maintainer approval, or explain why this focused fix qualifies for an exemption. Align the headings with the repository template and clearly list all unverified platform checks under ## Verification.

thanks @flamboh. the action-specific icons make the existing controls clearer. i kept your two commits and all the presentation changes, merged current main (daa720a986), and removed the blanket sparkles import/literal lint rule, its tests, registration, and config override. i also retained the mobile sparkles mappings because main's labs entry still uses one. compared the original diff against the final diff: nothing else was dropped or moved. the final change is 11 presentation files, +42/-49 lines.
verification on af4d1d274e4b49c08acab4c353c940f8329b4cbe: all 32 ci checks passed; github reports mergeable. blacksmith vp run check:changed passed format, lint, both knip passes, three package typechecks, and 14 existing browser tests. in the real web app using system chrome, auto selection persisted after reload, supervised remained selectable, full access was restored, and the guide tab displayed the scroll icon. two independent source reviews found no findings; macroscope approved this head. coderabbit's new review was rate-limited, so its latest-head review remains unavailable. its earlier literal-rule finding is removed with the rule.
unverified this pass: native ios/android rendering, desktop shell, artifact-card appearance, and provider-backed guide generation. the original mobile evidence remains in the description; these new captures are from main and this head with matching data. no labels were changed, and the pr remains open for maria to review and merge.
verified the unchanged head af4d1d274e4b49c08acab4c353c940f8329b4cbe on linux with repo playwright and /usr/bin/google-chrome.
installed and ran github/main (f17c9d202b) in a separate worktree first. reproduced sparkles on auto and both write-guide controls.
stopped main before starting the exact pr head. used isolated dev state and a real project at /home/user/t3code, created through the app. copied that state while main was stopped for matching captures. no mocks, fixtures, replay provider, or fabricated template data.
selected codex gpt-6.1-sol through the model picker. main completed git rev-parse --show-toplevel. on the pr, auto survived reload and real turns ran git status --short and git status --porcelain, returning AUTO VERIFIED and CHECKOUT CLEAN. supervised and full access remained selectable, then auto was restored.
enabled review guides and selected gpt-6.1-sol in settings. the guide tab's scroll-icon button generated a real four-stop guide for this pr. next-stop navigation worked. the actions menu's scroll-icon rewrite action completed a second guide. the repository project must be selected; an unscoped panel correctly refused to generate from another checkout.
blacksmith vp run check:changed daa720a986ca40e59b063206bb03ccef87f008de passed format, lint, both knip passes, three package typechecks, and 14 existing browser tests in two files. the explicit base and fetched history were needed by the isolated worker. github reports 22 successful, 9 skipped, and 1 neutral head checks, with none failing or pending.
inspected the captures, checked uploaded bytes, and exercised recording playback and seeking in system chrome and the reopened t3 pr comment. the recording contains actual provider execution, not a performance benchmark. no source changes, pushes, labels, merges, or rebases in this pass.
Not verified
native ios/android icon rendering and actions, electron shell integration, and macos/windows behavior were not exercised on this linux web pass. artifact-template cards and their use action remain unverified because this vm has no installed artifact-template-* skills or real template gallery data. the removed model-picker new badge has no live caller, so there is no real rendered state to reproduce. other providers and remote/tunnel clients were not exercised.
