fix(web): preserve literal backslashes in changed-file paths - #23167
On Linux and macOS a file name can contain a backslash, for example back\slash.txt. When a turn changes that file, the Changes card in the chat files it under a back folder that doesn't exist and names it slash.txt. If the repo also has back/slash.txt and the turn changes both, both rows get the same path, back/slash.txt. Clicking the back\slash.txt row then opens the other file's diff, and both rows share one React key.
The cause is in apps/web/src/lib/turnDiffTree.ts. Before splitting a path into folders, it rewrites every \ to /. ChangedFilesCard also treats \ as a folder separator when it decides whether to show the expand/collapse-all control.
Change
turnDiffTree.ts: split only on /. The changed-file paths come from git diff --numstat -z (apps/server/src/checkpointing/Diffs.ts), and Git writes / between folders on every platform, Windows included. A backslash in those paths is part of a file name.
ChangedFilesTree.tsx: hasDirectories checks for / only, to match.
turnDiffTree.test.ts: one case builds the tree from back\slash.txt and back/slash.txt and checks that each keeps its own path and stats. The nested back/slash.txt entry is the control for ordinary folders.
The diff panel already keeps the literal backslash in patch file names (diffRendering.test.ts), so the row now matches the diff it opens.
Scope and approval
No issue. This is a small fix for an obvious bug: one regex and one replaceAll removed, plus one test. There's no new setting, API or UI. #22557 removed the test that pinned this rewrite in turnDiffTree.ts. A kept test in diffFileActions.test.ts still expects mixed separators when a diff file is opened; this PR doesn't change that path.
Verification
Focused test, cd apps/web && vp test run --project unit --reporter=verbose src/lib/turnDiffTree.test.ts:
main (05696c6) with the new test: 1 failed, 2 passed. Both inputs become back/slash.txt under one back folder with 3 additions.
This branch: 3 passed.
Typecheck (tsc-rs --noEmit in apps/web) passes. vp lint and vp fmt --check on the three changed files pass, including against current main's newer test lint rules (#22560-#22565).
Real app on Linux: I made production builds of main and this branch (vp build for web, vp pack for server) and ran each server with its own fresh state. The browser was headless Chrome, and the agent was the repo's mock ACP agent (apps/server/scripts/acp-mock-agent.ts). The project was a small Git repo with back\slash.txt and back/slash.txt committed. In one turn I appended one line to back\slash.txt and two lines to back/slash.txt. Then I expanded the Changes card and clicked the +1 row.
main: the card shows both files as slash.txt under back (+3). Both rows carry the path back/slash.txt. Clicking the +1 row opens the back/slash.txt diff, and back\slash.txt stays collapsed.
This branch: back\slash.txt is its own top-level row next to the back folder (+2). Clicking it opens the back\slash.txt diff.
Not checked:
A Windows host. The paths still come from Git there, which uses /, but I didn't run the app on Windows.
The right-click menu on a file row. The row passes the right path now, but resolveDiffPathForWorkspace in apps/web/src/diffFileActions.ts still treats \ as a separator, so Open and Reveal on the back\slash.txt row resolve to back/slash.txt. Its test "handles Windows roots and mixed diff separators" expects that, so I left it for a separate change.
The desktop (Electron) build. It renders the same web component.
Prior PRs: none attempted this fix. #172 by Julius Marminge added the changed-files tree and the Windows-separator rewrite this PR narrows. #22311 (open) changes folder collapse in ChangedFilesTree.tsx and merges cleanly with this branch.
Checkpoint paths come from Git numstat, which separates directories
with "/" on every platform. The changed-files tree also split on "\",
so a POSIX file named back\slash.txt showed under a false "back"
folder and shared the identity of back/slash.txt, opening the wrong
diff. Split only on "/" and keep the card's folder check in line.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This is a narrowly scoped web bug fix that preserves literal backslashes in changed-file names while retaining normal directory handling. The implementation is small, isolated, and covered by a regression test.

Walkthrough
Path normalization and directory detection now use only / as a separator. A test verifies that backslashes remain part of filenames and that forward-slash paths form directories.

Path normalization and directory detection recognize only / as a separator. The test checks that back/slash.txt forms a directory path while back\slash.txt remains a root-level file with its statistics.
pingdotgg/t3code#22053: Both changes preserve literal backslashes in Git-originated paths. This PR handles quoted and escaped paths in Git diff headers.
pingdotgg/t3code#15752: Both changes process Git diff paths. This PR prefixes numstat and patch paths for multi-repository workspaces.
Opening or revealing a backslash-named file can target a different path; this is a narrow issue but should be tracked before merging.

Explanation
The description follows the repository template closely. It has Problem, Change, Scope and approval, and Verification sections, and each is substantively filled in. The Problem section gives the reproduction steps and the affected code path. The Change section lists the three edited files and explains why splitting only on / matches Git's output. The Scope and approval section states that no issue exists and explains why the fix qualifies as a small, focused bug fix. It also notes the related test that pinned the old rewrite was removed in #22557. The Verification section names the exact focused test command, reports before and after results, and includes before and after screenshots for the UI behavior. It also lists what was not checked: Windows, the right-click menu, and the Electron build. Two minor gaps remain. The title is not shown in the description, so conventional-commit title compliance cannot be confirmed from it. The description also ends with a model attribution line, which the template asks for. The description does not name a triaged issue or a maintainer approval comment. It justifies the no-issue exemption instead, which the template allows for very small, focused fixes of an obvious bug.

resolveDiffPathForWorkspace still converts every backslash in a Git path to /. The primary Open action and context-menu Open/Reveal actions can therefore resolve back\slash.txt as back/slash.txt.
Keep Git paths slash-separated in resolveDiffPathForWorkspace. Convert the logical path to a host path only at the filesystem boundary. Update the existing mixed-separator test and add a focused test for a literal-backslash filename.
