fix(server): a slow Claude CLI is no longer reported as failing to run - #21263
juliusmarminge merged 5 commits into
Conversation
The native Claude CLI can take several seconds just to answer `--version` on Windows (2.2-3.5 s measured on an idle machine). The shared 4-second probe deadline therefore reported a healthy install as "installed but failed to run" whenever the machine was busy. The check now allows 20 seconds, as the Codex app-server status check does. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This is a narrowly scoped reliability fix with targeted coverage, but it changes the built-in Claude health-check deadline from 4 seconds to 20 seconds. That default behavior change warrants confirmation by a human reviewer. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

Taking over this one as maintainer for batch claude-02. I will repair the malformed test string, merge main, and verify both healthy slow startup and the timeout boundary before pushing here. Credit to @yaacovcorcos for the Windows startup diagnosis. |

Claude's version probe could report a working installation as failing when startup took longer than four seconds, particularly on Windows. Give only
claude --versiona 20-second deadline; usage and capabilities retain their existing deadlines. A hung version probe still returns an error through the existing scoped subprocess cleanup.Maintainer takeover of #21263, preserving @yaacovcorcos's implementation and contributor commits. Replaced the malformed regression test with two deterministic clock cases: a healthy response after 19 seconds and a hung probe. Removed the invalid literal-newline fixture.

0a17c749f102ce5df3482547ce6f79526dbee964:checkClaudeProviderStatuswith an executable fixture that delays--versionfor five seconds:{"elapsedMs":5095,"status":"ready","version":"2.1.303"}. This verifies actual process spawning past the former deadline, without a paid model request.Windows startup was not reproduced on a Windows host. macOS, iOS, Android, and Electron desktop were not verified. The deadline interrupts the existing scoped process operation; this does not add a hard-kill guarantee for a process that ignores termination. No visual UI change, so proof is test and process output rather than screenshots. CI and approval/landing are handed to the coordinator; no merge performed.
