fix(mobile): Android fingerprint covers Expo native modules again - #20384
Conversation
ApprovabilityVerdict: Needs Human Approval Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — The PR fixes Android native fingerprinting, but also adds an autonomous gate to the production EAS pipeline that can block OTA releases and automatic build reconciliation. The resulting production deployment behavior and changed runtime fingerprints warrant human review. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Learn more. |

“Publish OTA update (manual)” step before its eas update call, reusing the
existing fingerprint and expo_modules validation behavior so manual dispatches
also skip publication when the count is zero.

expo-widgets declares a Maven-only gradle plugin with no sourceDir. @expo/fingerprint calls path.relative on it, throws, and its catch drops every Android Expo module source. Native changes such as the @expo/ui TopAppBarView patch stopped moving the Android fingerprint, so production OTAs reached Play build 93 and crashed it. Patch @expo/fingerprint to skip sourceDir-less gradle plugins, and refuse to publish a production OTA from a fingerprint that hashes no Expo modules. Play build 93 (2.0.0) crashed on launch with a missing
ExpoUI_TopAppBarView. #19994 added that view natively in the@expo/uipatch, but the Android runtime fingerprint did not change, so production OTAs from #19999 through #20084 were published to build 93's runtime (035e46c0…).The Android fingerprint had stopped hashing any Expo native module.
expo-widgetsdeclares a Maven-resolved gradle plugin (io.github.expo.peek.glance-fork) with nosourceDir.@expo/fingerprintrunspath.relative(root, plugin.sourceDir)on it, throws, and itscatch { return [] }drops all ~56expoAutolinkingAndroidsources. Build 93's stored fingerprint has 0 of them. iOS was unaffected. The bug is still present in@expo/fingerprint0.21.5 and the current canary.Changes:
@expo/fingerprint@0.21.5to skip gradle plugins without asourceDir. Upstream fix: expo/expo#51710; drop the patch once it ships.Verify fingerprints hash Expo native modulesstep to the production workflow. It runs before both the automatic reconcile and manualmode=updatedispatches, and fails the job when a fingerprint hashes zero Expo native modules, so a silently swallowed sourcer error stops the OTA instead of shipping it.Verified locally (in
apps/mobile):expoAutolinkingAndroidsources, including@expo/ui/android.@expo/ui'sExpoUIModule.ktchanges the Android hash, and reverting restores it.easstubbed to emit real fingerprints. Healthy Android + iOS pass. Build 93's stored Android fingerprint fails the step withallorandroid, and passes withiosonly. Emptyeasoutput fails closed.Merging changes the Android fingerprint, so Android needs a new production build before it gets OTAs again (the workflow cuts one). Build 93 has already been rolled back to the last pre-#19994 update (group
