Agents can plan a request as a graph of tasks. Each node runs as its own orchestration v2 thread in its own worktree, starting once its dependencies succeed; nodes with several dependencies merge their branches, and each end of the tree commits, pushes and opens a pull request. The proposing thread gets a report when the graph finishes. - TaskGraphService drives ThreadLaunchService and runStackedAction; graphs persist as one row each and recover after restarts. - task_graph_* MCP tools let agents create, list, edit (add, update, remove, cancel_branch, retry), run and cancel graphs; the web editor and mobile use the same edit operations. - taskGraphAutoRun and taskGraphMaxConcurrentNodes server settings; prompt wording overrides auto-run per graph. - Peer machines: pair another environment with a scoped bearer session and place nodes on whichever machine scores best with the shared load balancing scorer. - Web: graph card above the composer, lazy-loaded canvas editor, settings for auto-run, concurrency and peer machines. Mobile: graph sheet with run, cancel, cancel branch and retry. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Node launches passed reuseExistingThread, which tells ThreadLaunchService to adopt an existing empty thread. Node threads do not exist yet, so every launch failed with ProjectionStoreThreadNotFoundError. A plain create with the node's pre-allocated thread id and command id is already idempotent. The card above the composer now draws the graph left to right, with curves from each dependency to the node waiting on it, instead of a list by step. It starts expanded even when the graph ran or finished on its own. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Hovering a box in the graph diagram opens a preview card with the task's prompt, status, what it waits on, its branch, result summary, and any error or pull request failure. It replaces the error-only tooltip. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Double-clicking a box in the chat diagram, or pressing Enter on it, opens the graph editor with that task selected. The box title is no longer a link so the first click does not navigate away; the hover card carries an "Open thread" link and a hint instead. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A failed or cancelled node stopped being watched, so retrying it from its thread left the graph showing it failed and everything after it skipped. When such a node's thread starts a new run, the node runs again on that thread and the nodes skipped because of it wait for it again; its result is then recorded, delivered and released like any other. On startup, nodes continued while the server was down are caught up the same way. Graphs cancelled as a whole stay cancelled. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…chine - Each node picks a workspace: its own worktree (default), its first dependency's worktree and branch, or the project folder with no branch, commit or PR for read-only work. - A node's PR targets the nearest earlier node with its own PR, else the graph base, passed as a new optional baseBranch on runStackedAction. Branch ends alone get one PR each against the base; PRs on inner nodes give a stack, on this machine or a peer. - Agent guidance: stacked PR requests become one graph of layers instead of linear work, combining nodes only when the user asks for reconciliation, and machines can be pinned from task_graph_list's new machines list. - Graphs record the proposing thread's model as the default. - Web: the editor picks model, machine and workspace per node; diagram boxes, hover cards and the card header show the model and machine. Mobile rows show model and machine too. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Graphs could only be created by agents. A New task graph button next to the attach button creates an empty draft on the thread, through a new taskGraphs.create RPC, and opens its editor on the first task. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- New `waiting` node status with a reason and time. A node never starts into a used-up usage limit on this machine; it waits for the window's reset. - A node whose run stops on a usage limit waits instead of failing: the graph arms the thread's limit recovery with auto-resume, so the existing recovery worker continues it on the same thread at the reset, and the node wakes on that run. Cancelling a waiting node clears the recovery. - Nodes take an optional startAt and wait until then. - The scheduler tick no longer rewrites and republishes unchanged graphs. - Web and mobile show waiting nodes with their reason and time; the editor has a Start at field. Agent guidance covers timing and limits. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
On a new, unsent draft the composer's active thread is a local draft, so the button failed with "Could not read the thread". It now shows once the thread exists on the server. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…T3 Connect A server only reached peers it could reach directly, by a pasted pairing link. Task graph machines settings now list the app's other connected machines with an Add button: the app asks that machine for a short-lived grant (new taskGraphPeers.issueGrant, limited to the peer scopes the caller already holds) and hands it to the graph's server with the address the app reaches the machine at. For a T3 Connect connection that is the tunnel hostname, which forwards straight to the machine, so relay-only machines can run nodes without the server holding T3 Connect credentials. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The New task graph button only showed once a thread had been sent, since a graph needs a server thread. On a new chat it now creates an empty thread for the graph, attaches the graph, and opens it with the editor ready. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
With a task selected, Add task now makes the new task depend on it, so it branches off that task instead of starting a new root. With nothing selected it still adds a root task. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…itor With no task selected, Add task now makes the new task the parent of the graph's unstarted starting tasks, so it runs before them. Tasks that have already started keep their place. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The graph button on a new chat used to create an empty thread straight away. It now opens the editor on a draft held in the client, checked by the same edit rules as the server. Run creates the thread and the graph together and opens the thread; closing the editor keeps the draft while the new chat stays open, and Discard draft resets it. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add task used to open a side form and only drew the task once it was submitted. It now adds a "New task" to the graph at once, after the selected task or as the parent of the unstarted starting tasks, and selects it for editing like any other task. Also hides the React Flow attribution on the canvas. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…machines A task added after a selected task now continues that task's worktree by default, when it has one and no other task continues it already. A task that merges branches known to be on different machines gets a "Bring branches together on" choice: one dependency's machine, continuing its worktree there and pulling the other branches in through origin, or any machine in a new worktree. It only shows when the joined branches are on two or more known machines. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A succeeded node's thread has nothing left to do, so the graph now settles it, on this machine or on the peer that ran it, and it leaves the active thread list. Failed and cancelled nodes stay active so someone can pick them up. A peer without settlement support only logs a warning. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Once the first columns of a graph are done, the card above the composer scrolls right so the first column with work left leads, with a sliver of the finished column before it. It shows the end once everything is done, keeps failed tasks in view, and only moves when the leading column changes, so status updates never undo a manual scroll. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Resolves two conflicts by keeping both sides: the client-runtime subscription method list, and the mobile working control's tap targets (task graph plus main's child-input status). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This PR introduces a substantial task-graph system spanning agent orchestration, worktrees, Git/PR delivery, persistence, web/mobile UI, and remote-machine execution, while also changing product defaults and authorization behavior. …peers Server: - A cancelled graph stays cancelled even when a node failed, so a node continued later cannot reopen it. - Nodes set waiting for a start time or usage reset are no longer launched in the same pass with no thread id. - Peer capacity counts nodes placed on a peer earlier in the same pass. - Only a failed PR step leaves a node succeeded; a failed commit or push fails it, so dependents never start from a branch without its work. - Failed and cancelled nodes record completedAt for startup recovery. - Enrichment shell snapshots from a peer only patch repository identity instead of wiping its projects and threads; a tracked thread missing from a full snapshot fails its node instead of leaving it running forever, which also covers a restart between marking a node running and starting it on the peer. - Project-folder nodes are never told to merge branches. Clients: - An interrupted graph command counts as failed, not accepted. - After a graph is created on a new chat, a slow shell no longer deletes its thread. - The join machine choice no longer collides with a task keyed "auto". - Machines this app reaches on loopback cannot be added to a remote environment, which could never reach that address. - Mobile reserves feed space for a task-graph-only floating control. …d settings - advance asks peers for their load once per pass, before taking the graph lock, so slow peers no longer hold up edits, cancels and completions; each pass applies its own placements against those counts. - Node completions are finished in their own fibers, so one node's delivery no longer blocks every other graph's events. - A node pinned to a peer with load weight 0 now runs there; weight 0 only keeps balanced work away. - A failed PR step on a peer leaves the node succeeded with a failed PR, as it does on this machine. - A node continuing a branch that already has a PR pushes its commits, so that PR gets them and later layers stack cleanly. - task_graph_create and task_graph_run are marked destructive: running nodes can commit, push and open pull requests. - Machine settings reset their busy state in finally blocks and parse connection URLs safely. - Drops exports nothing imports. Following up on CodeRabbit's two nitpicks in the review body:
|
main took migration 61 for PullRequestReviewGuides, so TaskGraphs moves to 062 (its statements are all IF NOT EXISTS). Keeps both sides of the client RPC permission list, and passes the graph's environment to the model picker, which main now requires. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Node completions now run concurrently, so a second completion for the same thread could read the node already marked delivering and deliver it again. Only the call that moves the node out of running under the graph lock delivers it now. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…loopback - A join that continues a dependency whose machine is not known yet shows "Machine not known yet, continuing <task>" instead of claiming a new worktree. - Adding a machine this app reaches on loopback is no longer blocked: both environments may share a computer this app reaches over the network. The row warns, and the pairing attempt reports whether it worked. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…e pill - A graph based on "HEAD" (a thread with no branch) no longer sends it as a PR base; git picks the repository default branch as before. - An interrupted graph creation on a new chat keeps its thread and opens it with a warning, since the graph may have started; only a confirmed failure deletes the thread. - The mobile task-graph segment is width-capped and its label shrinks, so it fits beside agents and the queue on narrow screens. …t-off launches - launchNode re-checks the node under the lock before launching, and again after; a cancel that landed while launching interrupts the new thread under its own command id (task-graph-launch-stop) so cancel's receipt does not swallow it. - Startup recovery replays the launch for a running node whose thread exists but has no run, instead of finishing (failing) it; launch command ids make the replay idempotent. Addresses Greptile findings on fork PR #10 (upstream pingdotgg#17930). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Note Written by Thanks for submitting the task-graph proposal. The new graph scheduler, cross-machine execution, editor, and settings require prior approval of direction and scope, which the PR explicitly says is missing. Please bring the proposal to an Ideas discussion and obtain explicit maintainer approval before requesting reconsideration. |
Problem
Large requests ("audit every module and fix what you find", "build these four features as a stack") end up as one long agent turn, or as threads you start and merge by hand. There's no way to plan the work as dependent pieces that run in parallel, on one machine or several, and come back together.
Change
Adds task graphs: a graph of tasks where each task runs as its own orchestration v2 thread in its own worktree, starting once its dependencies succeed.
Server (
apps/server/src/taskGraph)TaskGraphServicelaunches task threads throughThreadLaunchService, commits each task's work, and opens pull requests withrunStackedAction. Graphs persist and recover after restarts.task_graph_*MCP tools let agents create, list, edit, run and cancel graphs. The editor uses the same edit operations.Web

No linked issue or maintainer discussion yet. This is a new feature, so it needs maintainer sign-off on direction and scope before review.
Verification
TaskGraphService.test.tscovers fan-out and merge, cancel branch, draft edits, peer placement, following a continued failed task, stacked PRs and worktree continuation, usage-limit waits, start times, and settling succeeded tasks.taskGraphView.test.tsandtaskGraphCanvasLayout.test.tscover layout, join-machine options, worktree continuation rules and card scroll position.main.contracts,shared,client-runtime,server,webandmobile.This is a new feature, so there are no "before" screenshots.
Drafting a graph on a new chat
On a new chat, the graph button opens the editor on a draft. No thread exists yet.

Add task with a task selected goes after it and continues its worktree.

With nothing selected, the new task becomes the parent of the starting tasks.

Closing and reopening the editor keeps the draft while the new chat stays open.

A graph planned by the agent
Claude planned this 9-task graph from chat, as a draft.

The task that merges four branches, selected.

A read-only task working in the project folder.

Running it
Once the first column is done, the card scrolls to where work is left, and the spec's thread is settled.

All 9 tasks succeed, every task thread is settled, and the planning thread gets the report.
