ApprovabilityVerdict: Not approved Macroscope's review found this PR not approvable — This is a narrowly scoped popup-navigation fix, but it changes the authentication flow for OAuth/MSAL integrations and the security-sensitive handling of preview-created windows. The tests cover the new decision paths, while the remaining concern is the authentication and popup-hardening impact of the runtime policy change. You can add or adjust custom eligibility rules. Withdrawing this one. Macroscope marks it not auto-approvable because it touches auth and popup hardening policy, and I only want to send PRs it accepts. The fix itself stays valid for #14452 if a maintainer wants to pick it up from this branch. |

Note This comment is posted by Julius' dot Closing for missing UI verification. This changes preview navigation and whether a popup attempt leaves the opener usable, but the PR provides no captures and only tests the decision helper. Please add before/after screenshots and a short desktop recording of the blank-popup case, showing the opener survives and its redirect fallback can start. Keep the blank-URL scope approved in #14452, or explain why the other schemes must change, then request reconsideration. |
Fixes #14452
What changed
Scripted
new-windowrequests for URLs that cannot run in a hardened popup now returndenyinstead ofnavigate. The previewsetWindowOpenHandleronly callsloadURLfornavigate.about:blankand similar URLs no longer replace the opener. Tab dispositions still load in the preview tab.Why
window.open('about:blank')from a preview page returnednulland then loadedabout:blankover the opener. MSAL opens its popup this way and then falls back to redirect, but the redirect ran from a blanked page. A plain deny keeps the opener alive so the SDK fallback works. This is a small obvious bug fix. It touches one decision function plus its handler and tests.Verification
