This announcement contains the statement:
The following modules are still available via their u-names for backwards compatibility: array, asyncio, ... ssl, struct, time, websocket.
Consequently the existing code should run on the latest firmware.
The long term fix is to madate a recent firmware build and to issue import ssl. I'm deferring doing this to allow running on older firmware.

custom build image has ssl instead of ussl package...
