Motivation

  • Align CI, linting, release workflows and local test tooling with Go 1.26 so the project is validated against the new Go release and review feedback is addressed.
  • Keep the lint workflow running on the same Go version as the test matrix to avoid mismatches between CI jobs.

Description

  • Update GitHub workflows (.github/workflows/lint.yml, coverage.yml, release.yml, workflow.yml) to use Go 1.26 and include 1.26 in the test matrix.
  • Add 1.26 to the GO_VERSIONS list in test-go-versions.sh, update the version validation regex/messages to accept 1.11-1.26, and update the examples accordingly.
  • Revert reviewer-requested, non-essential example-string churn in .github/workflows/go-versions-test.yml and test-go-versions.sh to keep documentation examples stable.
  • Commit follow-up changes to address inline review comments and keep the PR focused on the Go 1.26 rollout.

Testing

  • Ran go test -race ./... which completed successfully and reported package test results as OK.

Codex Task

Run lint on Go 1.26 to match the new CI baseline, and keep usage/example strings unchanged where reviewers requested no churn in documentation examples.

### Release Notes

<details>
<summary>pelletier/go-toml (github.com/pelletier/go-toml/v2)</summary>

### [`v2.3.0`](https://github.com/pelletier/go-toml/releases/tag/v2.3.0)

[Compare Source](pelletier/go-toml@v2.2.4...v2.3.0)

This is the first release built largely with the help of AI coding agents. Highlights include the complete removal of the unsafe package. go-toml is now fully safe Go code, with a geomean overhead of only \~1.4% vs v2.2.4 and zero additional allocations on benchmarks. This release also adds omitzero struct tag support, improves UnmarshalText/Unmarshaler handling for tables and array tables, and fixes several bugs including nil pointer marshaling, leap second handling, and datetime unmarshaling panics.
