Preserve unmapped boundaries during source-map composition.
When an input map contains a one-field segment after a mapped segment, preserve that segment as an unmapped boundary. Do not ignore it during parsing. Mapping::parse currently discards one-field segments, so List::find returns the previous mapped segment. Chunk::append_mapping then maps the new generated position to that previous original position.

src/sourcemap/lib.rs— Plugin users whose inline map carries segments pointing at a source index the map's singlesourcesentry does not have get those positions silently reported in the loaded file at the wrong lines. src/sourcemap/lib.rs:964 passesi32::MAXas the source count, somapping::parsenever rejects such segments, and src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:621-622 copies only the line and column from the found mapping, discardingsource_index. Fix: passsources.len()as the count (or validatemapping.source_index == 0inparse_input_source_map/append_mapping) so a mapping into another source is rejected or skipped, matching the one-source rule the PR adds. Why this was flagged
Trigger: a plugin builds an inline map by concatenating or re-encoding maps from several steps and the resulting
mappingsreference index 1 or higher whilesourceswas trimmed to the one file. On the base commit the comment was ignored, so positions stayed incontents. After the changeparse_input_source_map(src/sourcemap/lib.rs:873) accepts the map becauseexternal_source_nameshas one entry,mapping::parseat lib.rs:961-964 accepts every segment because the count isi32::MAX, andappend_mappingat src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:615-622 takesmapping.original.lines/columnswithout looking atmapping.source_index. Stack traces, previews andbun test --coveragethen place those tokens at another file's line numbers under this file's name, which is exactly the misattribution the one-source check was added to prevent. Fix: pass the real source count or skip mappings whosesource_index != 0.Verification: Triggers when a plugin's inline map has one

🟣 pre-existing, not blocking: pre-existing, widened: bun test --coverage can abort with an out-of-memory instead of a report when a plugin's inline map carries a huge original line. After this change the original line in the module's map is copied from the plugin map at src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:621, and mapping::parse only rejects negative lines (src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:612). Coverage then calls LineCounts::add, which does resize(line + 1, None) (src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs:931) — up to 2^31 entries, 16 GiB. Fix: bound original lines before they reach coverage (reject or skip mappings whose original line is implausible, e.g. beyond the original file's line count), covering both the plugin map path and the // @ bun external-map path that already feeds for_each_mapping.
A small fix can ride a push you are already making; otherwise a short reply is enough.
Why this was flagged
Trigger: a runtime onLoad plugin returns contents with an inline map in which one segment's original line is very large, e.g. original line 2147483647, and the user runs bun test --coverage. append_mapping (src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:613-625) stores mapping.original.lines.zero_based() into the runtime map without any upper bound. generate_report_from_blocks (src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs:718-736) walks that map with for_each_mapping and calls count_line -> LineCounts::add (CodeCoverage.rs:929-933), which resizes a Vec<Option<u32>> to line + 1 entries, so a single bad segment allocates up to 16 GiB and the process is OOM-killed or aborts in the allocator. On the base branch the runtime map's original lines come from Bun's own line table and are bounded by the module's line count; the same code is reachable on base only through a // @ bun file with its own external map, so this is pre-existing for that path, but plugin output is the case this PR introduces. No guard exists between the map parser and LineCounts::add.
Verification: pre-existing, widened: triggered when an onLoad plugin's inline map has an enormous original line under bun test --coverage. Mapping::parse only rejects negative lines (src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:612); append_mapping copies it unbounded (src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:621); LineCounts::add does self.0.resize(line + 1, None) (src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs:931), so the coverage run dies.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
🟡 nit (optional): when one of the eight new coverage cases fails, the maintainer gets an ENOENT from readFileSync and no captured stderr, so the cause is invisible. report() spawns with stderr: "inherit" (test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:1164) and reads coverage/lcov.info (line 1166) before anything asserts the exit code. Every other spawn in this file uses stderr: "pipe". Fix: pipe stderr, await it with stdout and exited, and put it in the returned object so toEqual reports { thrownAt, lines, stderr, exitCode } together; read lcov.info only after the exit code is known or guard the read.
Why this was flagged
A regression in the plugin source-map path (or a bun test crash) makes the spawned bun test --coverage in report() exit non-zero without writing coverage/lcov.info. test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts:1164 passes stderr: "inherit", so the child's diagnostics go to the runner's terminal,…
Verification: nit. Triggering condition: any of the eight report()-based cases fails because the spawned bun test --coverage exits non-zero before writing coverage/lcov.info. Mechanism in test/cli/test/coverage.test.ts: the spawn passes stderr: "inherit" (line 1164) and line 1167 does readFileSync unconditionally before the returned object is compared, so a child failure surfaces as an ENOENT rather than as a toEqual diff that includes the child's stderr.

Beyond the inline findings, I also checked the auto-install print path in src/jsc/AsyncModule.rs (line 1116), which never sets input_source_map: plugin virtual modules are transpiled through Bun__transpileVirtualModule with a null promise_ptr, so pending imports there return UnexpectedPendingResolution instead of being queued, and the AsyncModule print only ever sees on-disk sources whose source_mapping_url is already cleared. The new sourceRoot concatenation in parse_json only reaches parse_input_source_map via the single-source equality check, so an absolute entry under a non-empty sourceRoot fails the match and is ignored rather than mis-attributed.
Extended reasoning...
The change threads an optional parsed input source map from runtime plugin onLoad contents through the printer's SourceMapHandler into Chunk::append_mapping, relaxes the data-URL and sourcesContent parsing in src/sourcemap/lib.rs, adds a source_index = 1 sentinel consumed by coverage, and disables the transpiler cache when a map is present. It touches no auth, crypto or injection surface; the untrusted input is a plugin-supplied source map, whose column arithmetic and sentinel handling are covered by the posted inline findings. This note only records two candidate issues examined and ruled out this run; the inline findings and the max_bugs exit mean a human still needs to look.

src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs— nit: with a plugin map for a file of a non-JS extension (the PR's.sveltecase) the error preview now shows a line number and caret that disagree with the frame printed under it. Inremap_zig_exceptionthe preview text comes fromfetch_without_on_load_pluginsat src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs:6729, which returns no text for afileloader, so the lines keep JSC's printed-output numbers while the frame line and caret column are the remapped ones. Fix: when the top frame was remapped and the loader is not JS-like, read the file atsource_urlfrom disk for the preview (as.tsalready gets), or drop the preview; the PR calls this "as on main", but on main the number, caret and frame all agreed. Why this was flagged
A runtime plugin compiles
throws.svelteand endscontentswith an accepted inline map; the code throws uncaught.remap_zig_exceptionresolves the top frame through the module map, now remapped to the file, and setsframes[top].positionto the original line and column (src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs:6749-6750). For the preview it callsfetch_without_on_load_pluginswithPrintSource(src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs:6729);.sveltehas no loader so it becomesLoader::Fileandtranspile_source_code_of_any_provenancereturns an emptysource_code(src/runtime/jsc_hooks.rs:2203-2214).codeis empty, socollect_source_lines(src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs:6745) fills the preview from JSC's printed source withlocation.line()numbers (src/jsc/bindings/ZigException.cpp:176-204). The printer then writes that line with its printed number and puts the caret attop.position.column(src/jsc/VirtualMachine.rs:7205-7214), the remapped column, above a frame such asthrows.svelte:4:15. On the base branch the frame, the preview number and the caret were all positions in the printed text, so they agreed.Verification:

🟡 (optional) Plugin users whose compiler marks generated code with 1-field segments (Babel, anything built on source-map/gen-mapping) get that code reported at a made-up position in their file instead of left out. The map parser drops 1-field segments (src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:556-562), so find_mapping at src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:619 returns the preceding original segment for generated text that follows it on the same line, and the projection at Chunk.rs:627 attributes it to the file with source index 0. Fix: treat a 1-field segment as ending the previous segment's range, e.g. keep it in the list with a no-source marker that find_mapping reports as uncovered, so the NOT_IN_INPUT_SOURCE_MAP branch fires for it and coverage skips it.
Why this was flagged
A runtime onLoad plugin returns Babel or source-map-generated output ending in an inline map whose single source is the file; such maps mark synthesized code with 1-field segments, which per the source map spec mean "no original position" and end the previous segment's range. Mapping::parse at src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:556-562 discards every 1-field segment. append_mapping at src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:619-622 then calls find_mapping, which (Mapping.rs:156-171) returns the last mapping on the same generated line with column <= the token's column, i.e. the original segment that the dropped terminator was supposed to close. The token gets source_index 0 at Chunk.rs:623 and a column of orig_col + (col - seg_col) at Chunk.rs:627-628, often past the end of the original line. A throw inside such trailing generated code is reported as file.ts:L:C with a column that does not exist, and bun test --coverage counts that offset against original line L via count_line (src/sourcemap_jsc/CodeCoverage.rs:739) instead of skipping it through is_added_to_the_file (CodeCoverage.rs:722). On the base branch no remapping happened at all.
Verification: The scalar parser discards 1-field segments: src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:556-573. find_index_from_generated (src/sourcemap/Mapping.rs:150-173) returns index-1 whenever that row is on the same generated line. The new append_mapping (src/sourcemap/Chunk.rs:617-631) then sets source_index = 0 and a fabricated column, and only takes the NOT_IN_INPUT_SOURCE_MAP branch when find_mapping returns None.

It reads the map withparse_input_source_mapbefore it parses the module, and hands it to the printer on theSourceMapHandler. No other caller of the printer sets it, so the bundler,Bun.Transpilerandbun pm diffare not affected, and neither is a text that was read from the file itself.parse_input_source_maptakes a map only when its one source resolves to the file being loaded (ParsedSourceMap::only_source_is). A map of another file would put that file's line numbers under this file's name.lib/foo.js, built by Babel fromsrc/foo.js, hassources: ["foo.js"]. Without a plugin such a map is not read either.contents, as on main, with the source indexNOT_IN_INPUT_SOURCE_MAP, and coverage leaves it out.Two things in the parser of source maps stood in the way of real maps. They also apply to the map of a

// @bunfiles readable, more of those files would reach a bug in coverage: it read the map of a bundle, and listed the line numbers of all its sources, merged, under the name of the bundle. Coverage now reads a map that Bun did not make only when its one source is the file itself, which is what a plugin gets when it returns the output ofBun.build({ target: "bun", sourcemap: "inline" }).What changes
