….4.0 A server could grow a client session's originSet without bound by sending ORIGIN frames for the life of the session (CVE-2026-48619). Add the maxOriginSetSize connect option (default 128) and destroy the session with ERR_HTTP2_TOO_MANY_ORIGINS when the set would grow past it.

A second branch fixed the same bug in parallel: A test for the exact limit. The rows in this PR ( it("counts the session's own origin toward maxOriginSetSize", async () => {
// The first frame has 10 origins. With the session's own origin that is 11 entries.
const tooSmall = await run({ maxOriginSetSize: 10 });
expect(tooSmall.originEvents).toBe(0);
expect(tooSmall.error?.code).toBe("ERR_HTTP2_TOO_MANY_ORIGINS");
const exact = await run({ maxOriginSetSize: 11 });
expect(exact.originEvents).toBe(1);
expect(exact.maxSize).toBe(11);
expect(exact.error?.message).toBe("The server sent more ORIGIN frames than the allowed number of 11");
});The other branch also has a describe block with no timer. Its server sends a fixed 13 frames from the The node version. The fix first shipped in v26.3.1, v24.17.0 and v22.23.0 (the security release of 2026-06-18), not in v26.4.0. |
Problem
node:http2client adds every origin of every inbound ORIGIN frame tosession.originSetwith no limit. A TLS server can send new origins for the life of the session and grow client memory without bound. A repro with a server that keeps sending ORIGIN frames reaches 301 entries and never errors.originhandler insrc/js/node/http2.ts:5331. It callsoriginSet.addfor each entry and never checks the size. Node.js fixed the same bug in v26.4.0 (CVE-2026-48619, nodejs/node@87d847bc70).Fix
http2.connect()acceptsmaxOriginSetSize. It is validated withvalidateNumber(..., 0)like node: a non-number throwsERR_INVALID_ARG_TYPE,NaNor a negative value throwsERR_OUT_OF_RANGE. The default is 128.originhandler checksoriginSet.size >= maxOriginSetSizebefore each add. When the check fails it destroys the session with the newERR_HTTP2_TOO_MANY_ORIGINS("The server sent more ORIGIN frames than the allowed number of 128") and does not emit'origin'for that frame. The
node:http2client added every origin from every inbound ORIGIN frame tosession.originSetwith no upper bound, so a TLS server could grow the set indefinitely for the life of the session (CVE-2026-48619). The fix mirrors Node v26.4.0 by adding amaxOriginSetSizeoption tohttp2.connect(default 128, validated as a number greater than or equal to zero) and checking it in the client's origin handler before each add. When the set is already at the limit, the session is destroyed withERR_HTTP2_TOO_MANY_ORIGINSand the'origin'event is not emitted for that frame.
