OSAC-3958: Clone skill-relative sibling repos on bootstrap

Jira: OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4011 (osac pointer only), OSAC-4010, OSAC-4040
Story type: Task

Depends on #307 (merged). Workspace 4011 stub already landed as osac-project/osac-workspace#225.

Summary

Standalone osac/ bootstrap now clones the skill-relative sibling repos this checkout still needs (PRD/design, UI, docs) into gitignored dirs so those paths survive osac-workspace cutover. /e2e writes tests/e2e/ in this repo (OSAC-3593); osac-test-infra is not cloned. Writeable siblings get a fork remote (workspace-shaped: origin = osac-project, fork = you). The Claude status line shows osac-ai-skills the same way it shows ai-workflows. AGENTS.md points at the canonical Feature → PRD → Design sequence in osac-ai-skills (canonical copy: osac-ai-skills#25). Distrobox (make enter) and osac-new-worktree are ported here so they are not workspace-only.

Siblings cloned by tools/bootstrap.sh

Default: gh fork of the writeable three. --no-fork for CI/read-only. Clone/fork failures warn-and-continue so skill install still runs. Nested osac/ inside osac-workspace still aborts (use a standalone clone or worktree). Never forked: osac-ux, .osac-ai-skills, .ai-workflows.

GitHub repo Local path (gitignored) Fork remote Why
enhancement-proposals enhancement-proposals/ yes PRD/design /publish + /respond
osac-ux osac-ux/ no /design:research, /implement:ingest @temp-api (not osac-ui)
osac-ui osac-ui/ yes production console; /osac-release
docs osac-docs/ yes personas / architecture guides. Not in-tree docs/ (ARCHITECTURE.md, CONVENTIONS.md)

Not in this list: osac-ai-skills and ai-workflows (already vendored by #307). Mono-repo components and E2E suites (tests/e2e/, OSAC-3593) are already in-tree. osac-test-infra is not cloned — infra backends / /debug-e2e only; do not add test suites there.

Changes

  • tools/bootstrap.sh: declarative SIBLINGS list ("repo" or "repo:local-dir") after skill install. Never clones into tracked docs/. Default gh forks on writeable siblings; --no-fork for clone-only. Empty GH_USER from gh api user fails before fork URLs are built. Leftover .ai-workflows / .osac-ai-skills dirs must be git work-tree roots before fetch/rebase.
  • .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh: same leftover-dest guard on SessionStart (do not git -C a leftover ~/.ai-workflows); skip rebase off main; fall back to repo-local.
  • Makefile + tools/distrobox/: Distrobox image (make enter / make claude). Tool binaries in the image are x86_64 only (see tools/distrobox/Containerfile). Podman wrapper lives here (kind-dev was removed in OSAC-3752).
  • tools/osac-helpers.sh: osac-new-worktree for this repo (../osac-<branch-basename>, then tools/bootstrap.sh). Jira keys in the branch name use awk for the leftmost OSAC-NNNN so sourcing from zsh works. Jira fetch uses timeout then gtimeout, or skips if neither is present. Bootstrap failure prints that cwd is already the worktree plus a --no-fork recovery command.
  • AGENTS.md / README.md: External Repos, EP publish paths, Distrobox (Linux/x86_64), worktrees, 4011 skill-sequence pointer. /e2e → tests/e2e/ (OSAC-3593); osac-test-infra is not a bootstrap sibling.

Testing

  • Unit tests: tools/test/bootstrap-sibling-clone-smoke.sh (including empty GH_USER), tools/test/statusline-osac-ai-skills-smoke.sh, tools/test/osac-new-worktree-smoke.sh (guards, dest/bootstrap, first Jira key, timeout/gtimeout/skip, cwd hint, zsh nounset), tools/test/update-ai-context-smoke.sh (leftover HOME dest, repo-local fallback, skip off main). Existing link-agent-skills-consumer-smoke.sh still passes.
  • Integration tests: N/A (bootstrap/statusline/helpers). Distrobox image build is not CI-smoked.
  • Coverage: smokes cover --no-fork and stubbed gh fork remotes. Live bootstrap without --no-fork will create GitHub forks.

Acceptance Criteria

  • AC-1 (3958): enhancement-proposals clones as a sibling on bootstrap.sh run
  • AC-2 (3958): adding a future sibling requires only a list entry
  • AC-1 (4483): resolve ~/.osac-ai-skills else $REPO/.osac-ai-skills
  • AC-2 (4483): missing → muted osac-ai-skills: not found
  • AC-3 (4483): present → branch + ✓ / ↓N
  • AC-4 (4483): recovery remains tools/bootstrap.sh; no extra symlink-health widget
  • (4010): Makefile + tools/distrobox/ on osac/; make help lists targets. Image build is Linux/x86_64 and is not CI-smoked (make enter not claimed on macOS).
  • (4040): tools/osac-helpers.sh osac-new-worktree documented in AGENTS.md

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added a configurable Distrobox development environment with build, entry, status, cleanup, and toolchain support.

OSAC-3958: Clone skill-relative sibling repos on bootstrap

Jira: OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4011 (osac pointer only)
Story type: Task

Depends on #307 (merged).

Summary

Standalone osac/ bootstrap now clones the remaining workspace sibling repos into gitignored dirs under this checkout so PRD/design/e2e skills keep skill-relative paths after osac-workspace cutover. The Claude status line shows osac-ai-skills the same way it shows ai-workflows. AGENTS.md points at the canonical Feature → PRD → Design sequence in osac-ai-skills (full 4011 still needs the osac-ai-skills README PR).

Changes

  • tools/bootstrap.sh: declarative SIBLINGS list after skill install: enhancement-proposals, osac-ux, osac-ui, osac-test-infra, docs:osac-docs. Read-only clone/update; warn-and-continue on failure. Never clones into tracked docs/.
  • .gitignore: ignore those five dests; do not ignore docs/.
  • AGENTS.md / README.md: External Repos + UI Reference (osac-ux @temp-api); bootstrap blurb; 4011 skill-sequence pointer (~/.osac-ai-skills or .osac-ai-skills).
  • .claude/hooks/statusline.sh: third segment osac | osac-ai-skills | ai-workflows. Resolve ~/.osac-ai-skills if it has .git, else $REPO/.osac-ai-skills. Missing → muted osac-ai-skills: not found.

OSAC-3958’s written guidance deferred osac-ux / osac-test-infra. This PR clones them because workspace decommission makes osac/tools/bootstrap.sh the only onboarding path. No gh fork remotes (same as existing vendor clones).

Testing

  • Unit tests: tools/test/bootstrap-sibling-clone-smoke.sh (five dests, docs→osac-docs, re-run update, skip unrelated dir still clones later siblings, extra list entry, nested abort). tools/test/statusline-osac-ai-skills-smoke.sh (missing, repo-local ✓ / ↓N, HOME .git wins, HOME without .git falls back). Existing link-agent-skills-consumer-smoke.sh still passes.
  • Integration tests: N/A (bootstrap/statusline)
  • Coverage: live empty-HOME tools/bootstrap.sh in an isolated worktree cloned all five siblings and left in-tree docs/ intact.

Acceptance Criteria

  • AC-1 (3958): enhancement-proposals clones as a sibling on bootstrap.sh run
  • AC-2 (3958): adding a future sibling requires only a list entry
  • AC-1 (4483): resolve ~/.osac-ai-skills else $REPO/.osac-ai-skills
  • AC-2 (4483): missing → muted osac-ai-skills: not found
  • AC-3 (4483): present → branch + ✓ / ↓N
  • AC-4 (4483): recovery remains tools/bootstrap.sh; no extra symlink-health widget

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 12.50% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 96 functions across 10 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Full details: No-Hardcoded-Secrets

Explanation

No hardcoded secret was introduced. The PR diff adds no API-key, token, password, private-key, credential-bearing URL, or credential-shaped literal. tools/bootstrap.sh obtains GH_USER dynamically from gh api user; its GitHub URLs contain only ${GH_USER} placeholders. The long sha256: value in tools/distrobox/Containerfile is an image digest, not a base64 secret. Gitleaks 1.8.1 scanned the PR commit range and reported no leaks.

Full details: No-Weak-Crypto

Explanation

No explicit weak-crypto usage was introduced. The feature diff contains no MD5, SHA-1, DES, 3DES, RC4, Blowfish, ECB, HmacSHA1, custom cryptography, or secret-comparison code. The new container checks downloads with SHA-256 (sha256sum) and pins the base image with a SHA-256 digest, which are not flagged by this check.

Full details: No-Injection-Vectors

Explanation

No explicit injection-vector condition is introduced. The diff adds no SQL concatenation, shell=True, eval, os.system, pickle.loads, unsafe yaml.load, or dangerouslySetInnerHTML. The new production exec calls invoke fixed commands and pass quoted positional arguments; they do not evaluate input as shell code. The existing statusline bash -c invocation is unchanged. The added jq filters are fixed, and Jira JSON is parsed with jq before being written as text.

Full details: Container-Privileges

Explanation

PASS: The pull request adds no privileged: true, hostPID, hostNetwork, hostIPC, SYS_ADMIN, or allowPrivilegeEscalation setting. The only new container manifest is tools/distrobox/Containerfile; it has build-time RUN instructions but no runtime root declaration. Makefile creates and enters the Distrobox without the --root option. The optional rootful Podman socket configuration is a host systemd drop-in for kind or nested containers, not a privileged container manifest, and its purpose is documented.

Full details: No-Sensitive-Data-In-Logs

Explanation

No changed production path logs passwords, tokens, API keys, or listed PII. New output contains repository names, local paths, branch names, and the GitHub username. gh auth status, Git fetch errors, and Jira raw responses are suppressed or captured; Jira fields are written to .claude/CLAUDE.md, not logged. The added smoke-test email is a fixed fixture value, not sensitive runtime data.

Full details: Ai-Attribution

Explanation

AI use is explicit in the PR context and feature commits. Every one of the 28 non-merge commits introduced from origin/main contains an Assisted-by: Cursor Grok 4.6 &lt;noreply@cursor.com&gt; trailer. No Co-Authored-By trailer appears in the feature range. The merge commits are human-authored and contain only normal Signed-off-by trailers.

Reason: stale-head

The review agent reviewed commit 620247d8a324cf2b9dc5ecaad54a235bca52c344 but the PR HEAD is now d7ede62474d88fe465cf26068369538aa8ad9c3d. This review was discarded to avoid approving unreviewed code.

Findings

Medium

  • [prompt-injection] tools/osac-helpers.sh:89 — The osac-new-worktree function appends Jira ticket summary and issue type verbatim into .claude/CLAUDE.md — a file Claude Code interprets as trusted project instructions. While tr -d '\n\r' strips newlines (preventing markdown heading injection), single-line prompt injection payloads in Jira summaries would pass through unescaped.
Remediation: Wrap the summary and issue_type values in backticks or a fenced code block so they render as data rather than instructions.

  • [privilege-escalation] tools/distrobox/podman-socket-rootful.conf:10 — The systemd drop-in grants the wheel group access to the rootful podman socket (SocketGroup=wheel), effectively granting root-equivalent container access. This is by-design for Kind cluster creation and documented as a manual host-side opt-in step (not auto-applied by bootstrap or make).

  • [protected-path] AGENTS.md, .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh — This PR modifies files under protected paths (.claude/, AGENTS.md). The PR links to OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4010, OSAC-4040 and explains the rationale. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes regardless of context.

Low

  • [code-duplication] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:23 — is_git_work_tree_root() is defined identically in three files (statusline.sh, update-ai-context.sh, bootstrap.sh). Each is standalone, making inlining pragmatic, but a future fix must be applied in three places.
Remediation: Extract into tools/osac-helpers.sh and source from the consuming scripts.

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The PR bundles five Jira issues into one ~2200-line changeset. The features are tightly coupled around bootstrap/dev-environment setup, but the Distrobox support is self-contained.

  • [architectural-coherence] AGENTS.md:72 — The new "UI Reference (osac-ux)" section introduces cross-repo workflow conventions not explicitly authorized by the linked issues.

  • [pattern-inconsistency] Makefile:11 — The help target's grep pattern uses .*? (PCRE lazy-match syntax), which is redundant but harmless in GNU grep -E.

  • [comment-style] tools/bootstrap.sh:226 — The new sibling-clone section omits the # --- section delimiter convention used elsewhere in the file.
Remediation: Add # --- sibling checkouts --- section delimiter.

  • [error-handling-idiom] tools/bootstrap.sh:56 — The option parsing error message omits the ERROR: prefix used consistently elsewhere in the file.
Remediation: Change to echo "ERROR: Unknown option: $1" >&2.

  • [robustness] tools/osac-helpers.sh — cd "$target_dir" || return 1 after worktree creation provides no diagnostic message on failure (extremely unlikely case).

Findings

Medium

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies protected governance/infrastructure files under .claude/ and AGENTS.md. The changes are justified by linked Jira tasks (OSAC-4483 for statusline/hooks, OSAC-3958 for AGENTS.md documentation updates). Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

  • [documentation/implementation-mismatch] tools/osac-helpers.sh:9 — The usage comment documents the calling convention as osac-new-worktree feat/my-feature [-- bootstrap args...], suggesting a -- separator. However, the implementation uses ./tools/bootstrap.sh "${@:2}" which passes arguments starting from position 2 directly without stripping --. A user following the documented usage with osac-new-worktree feat/foo -- --no-fork would have -- forwarded to bootstrap.sh, causing Unknown option: -- and exit 1. AGENTS.md and README.md correctly document without --.
Remediation: Remove -- from the usage comment: osac-new-worktree feat/my-feature [bootstrap args...]

Low

  • [Markdown/Content-Injection] tools/osac-helpers.sh:88 — Jira summary and issue_type fields are written into .claude/CLAUDE.md via printf %s. The code strips \n and \r but does not sanitize markdown-significant characters. A Jira summary starting with ## would produce a markdown heading after the preceding newline in the printf format string. Attack surface is narrow (requires a compromised/malicious Jira instance), but the fix is straightforward.
Remediation: Wrap the Jira summary value in backticks or blockquote to prevent markdown interpretation.

  • [Privilege-Escalation] tools/distrobox/podman-socket-rootful.conf:11 — The systemd drop-in grants rootful podman socket access to the entire wheel group via SocketGroup=wheel. While this is opt-in (requires manual host-side install) and wheel members already have sudo on Fedora/RHEL (so no new privilege escalation in practice), the scope is broader than necessary for a developer tooling setup.

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — PR bundles five separate Jira tasks (OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4010, OSAC-4040, OSAC-4011) into a single PR. The tasks are tightly coupled (bootstrap clones siblings, those need fork remotes, worktree helper calls bootstrap, distrobox provides the dev environment). The scope is large but coherent — a process observation, not a code defect.

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh — ensure_sibling guards dest against empty, ., and PROJECT_ROOT values before rm -rf on clone failure, but does not guard against .. path traversal in dir. The SIBLINGS array is hardcoded with safe values, so this is not exploitable in practice.

  • [consistency] .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh — The SessionStart hook now handles ai-workflows from HOME or repo-local paths with branch skipping, but does not update osac-ai-skills (which the statusline now reports). The asymmetry is likely intentional (bootstrap handles osac-ai-skills updates), but could confuse developers seeing a stale osac-ai-skills status.

  • [indentation] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses 4-space indentation throughout, while all other shell scripts in this PR and codebase (statusline.sh, update-ai-context.sh, bootstrap.sh, test scripts) use 2-space indentation.

  • [Information-Disclosure] tools/bootstrap.sh:93 — The authenticated GitHub username is printed to stdout. In CI, the --no-fork path skips this entirely, and in developer sessions the username matches their git commits (non-sensitive).

Next steps:

  • /fs-fix — agent addresses review findings automatically
  • /fs-fix <your instruction> — agent fixes with your specific guidance
  • Push commits directly — review re-runs automatically on push
  • /fs-fix-stop — disable automatic fix runs for this PR

Findings

Medium

  • [error-handling-gap] tools/osac-helpers.sh:82 — osac-new-worktree calls ./tools/bootstrap.sh without forwarding flags. Bootstrap defaults to the fork path (requires gh auth), and there is no mechanism to pass --no-fork through. When gh is unauthenticated, bootstrap fails after the worktree is created, leaving a half-configured worktree requiring manual recovery (cd <dest> && ./tools/bootstrap.sh --no-fork).
Remediation: Forward extra arguments (e.g., ./tools/bootstrap.sh "${@:2}") or support an OSAC_BOOTSTRAP_ARGS environment variable.

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies files under protected paths. The PR links to Jira issues (OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4010, OSAC-4040) and explains the rationale for each change. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes regardless of context.

Low

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh:348 — ensure_sibling runs rm -rf "${dest}" on clone failure. With the current hardcoded SIBLINGS array this is safe, but a malformed future entry could make dest equal PROJECT_ROOT.
    Remediation: Add a guard: [[ -n "$dir" && "$dest" != "$PROJECT_ROOT" ]] && rm -rf "${dest}"

  • [prompt-injection] tools/osac-helpers.sh:89 — Jira ticket summary is appended to .claude/CLAUDE.md with only tr -d '\n\r' sanitization. While mitigated by enterprise Jira (internal-only attack surface) and tested for markdown heading injection, the semantic prompt injection vector into the AI agent context remains.
Remediation: Consider truncating the summary to ~200 characters to limit injection surface.

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh:83 — gh api user -q .login could return the string "null" if .login is JSON null. The subsequent -z check would pass, proceeding to construct fork URLs like github.com/null/<repo>.git.
    Remediation: Change to: if [[ -z "$GH_USER" || "$GH_USER" == "null" ]]

  • [style-consistency] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses 4-space indentation while all other shell scripts in this PR and the wider codebase use 2-space indentation.
    Remediation: Re-indent to 2-space.

  • [style-consistency] tools/bootstrap.sh:153 — update_git_repo uses the subshell cd pattern (cd dir && git fetch) while all other functions in this PR and the codebase use git -C consistently.
    Remediation: Replace (cd "${dir}" && git ...) with git -C "${dir}" ...

  • [naming-consistency] .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh:2 — Header comment still says "fetch+rebase ai-workflows" but the script now includes repo-local fallback and branch-skip logic.
Remediation: Update header to reflect current behavior.

  • [code-duplication] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:35 — is_git_work_tree_root() is duplicated identically across statusline.sh, update-ai-context.sh, and tools/bootstrap.sh. Each script is standalone (no sourcing dependencies), so this is a deliberate trade-off, but it creates maintenance risk if the logic needs updating.

  • [privilege-escalation] tools/distrobox/podman-socket-rootful.conf:11 — Grants wheel group access to the rootful podman socket, which is functionally root-equivalent. This is an intentional opt-in design (requires manual host setup + PODMAN_ROOTFUL=1 env var) for kind/nested container support. Wheel-group members on Fedora/RHEL typically already have sudo access.

  • [logic-consistency] .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh — The hook auto-fetches ai-workflows on SessionStart but not osac-ai-skills, even though statusline.sh now tracks both. This asymmetry appears intentional (osac-ai-skills lifecycle is managed by bootstrap.sh), but may confuse developers seeing a stale statusline.

  • [edge-case] tools/osac-helpers.sh:68 — basename on the branch name means branches like feat/A/fix and feat/B/fix would collide at worktree destination osac-fix. The second invocation would fail at git worktree add, so no data loss occurs.

  • [scope-coherence] AGENTS.md — PR adds documentation sections (UI Reference, Enhancement Proposals) beyond the bootstrap scope. This is natural — documenting what newly-cloned repos contain — but expands the PR's surface beyond its title.

  • [naming-consistency] tools/bootstrap.sh:44 — FORK_REMOTE_NAME='fork' assumes resolve-remotes.sh (in osac-ai-skills) recognizes fork as $PUSH_REMOTE. AGENTS.md states this is the case; verify compatibility with the upstream script.

Findings

Medium

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh, AGENTS.md — These files are under protected paths (.claude/, AGENTS.md). The PR links to Jira tasks OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4011, OSAC-4010, and OSAC-4040, and the description explains the rationale for each change. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

Low

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh — GH_USER is set from gh api user -q .login without validating the result is non-empty. If the API call succeeds with empty output (unlikely but possible after gh auth status passes), fork URLs become malformed. A non-empty guard would be cheap defense-in-depth.

  • [injection-vuln] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Jira summary content injected into .claude/CLAUDE.md is sanitized with tr -d newline stripping (preventing markdown heading injection, confirmed by test_jira_summary_strips_newlines), but could still contain inline markdown or instruction-like patterns. The attack chain is low-probability: requires a compromised Jira ticket, a developer creating a new worktree from that branch, and Claude then following injected inline text within a **Summary:** field.

  • [pattern-violation] tools/bootstrap.sh, .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh — is_git_work_tree_root() is duplicated verbatim across three files. The function is small (4 lines) and semantically stable, and the files run in different contexts (Claude Code hooks vs. developer scripts), making extraction fragile. Cross-reference comments noting the other copies would help keep them synchronized.

  • [code-organization] tools/bootstrap.sh — The sibling-clone section adds ~130 lines of well-structured functions (is_expected_sibling, get_fork_url, fork_remote_push_matches, ensure_fork_remote, should_fork_sibling, maybe_fork_sibling, ensure_sibling). Extracting to a sourced file could improve readability, though the current single-file approach is valid for an infrequently-run script.

  • [stale-doc] AGENTS.md — The Distrobox code block lists make enter, make status, and make rebuild but omits make claude, which README.md documents and the Makefile defines. AGENTS.md does say "See make help" below the block, which covers the gap indirectly.

Findings

Medium

  • [prompt-injection] tools/osac-helpers.sh:89 — Jira ticket summary is fetched from an external service and appended to .claude/CLAUDE.md. While tr -d '\n\r' strips newlines (preventing multi-line injection), a malicious Jira summary containing markdown directives on a single line would be written verbatim into a file that Claude Code reads as trusted project instructions. The test test_jira_summary_strips_newlines verifies newline stripping but not markdown-active content neutralization.
Remediation: Sanitize Jira summary content before writing to CLAUDE.md. Consider wrapping in a fenced code block so Claude treats it as literal text, or writing Jira context to a separate non-CLAUDE.md file.

  • [code-duplication] tools/bootstrap.sh — is_git_work_tree_root() is defined identically in three files: tools/bootstrap.sh, .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, and .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh. Divergent edits to one copy could create subtle behavioral differences in worktree detection across bootstrap, statusline, and session-start paths.
Remediation: Extract to a shared shell library (e.g., tools/osac-helpers.sh which this PR already introduces) and source it from the hook scripts.

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh — This PR modifies protected paths: .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh, AGENTS.md. The PR links to Jira issues (OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4010, OSAC-4040) and the description explains the rationale for these changes. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

Low

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The PR bundles five distinct Jira issues (OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4010, OSAC-4040, OSAC-4011) into a single changeset. While documented and related (all part of the osac-workspace migration), the Distrobox image and worktree helper are functionally independent from sibling-cloning and could land separately.

  • [edge-case] tools/osac-helpers.sh:61 — When bootstrap.sh fails after the worktree is created, osac-new-worktree returns 1 but the caller's working directory has already been changed via cd "$target_dir". Since this is a sourced function, interactive callers lose their original cwd on bootstrap failure.
Remediation: Consider saving the original directory and restoring it on error, or adjust the recovery message to note the user is already in the worktree directory.

  • [naming-convention] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Function osac-new-worktree uses a hyphenated name while osac_jira_ticket_from_branch and all other functions in the repo use underscores. Hyphenated function names break POSIX sh compatibility and the file header states zsh compatibility as a goal.
Remediation: Rename to osac_new_worktree for consistency.

  • [naming-convention] tools/bootstrap.sh:225 — The SIBLINGS list uses hardcoded fork remote name (FORK_REMOTE_NAME="fork"). AGENTS.md's critical rules reference $PUSH_REMOTE and resolve-remotes.sh. The relationship between fork on sibling repos and $PUSH_REMOTE on the mono-repo is not documented.
Remediation: Add a brief note in the External Repos section clarifying that fork on siblings is the $PUSH_REMOTE equivalent for those checkouts.

Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

Low

  • [logic-error] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:77 — AI_DIR is hardcoded to ${HOME}/.ai-workflows without a repo-local fallback. update-ai-context.sh checks both ${HOME}/.ai-workflows and ${CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR}/.ai-workflows, so the statusline will show "not found" when ai-workflows exists only under the project directory.
Remediation: Add a resolve_ai_workflows_dir function analogous to resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir.

  • [naming-convention] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses #!/bin/bash shebang; all other tools/*.sh scripts use #!/usr/bin/env bash.
Remediation: Change shebang to #!/usr/bin/env bash.

  • [pattern-inconsistency] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses 4-space indentation; all other shell scripts in the repo use 2-space consistently.
    Remediation: Re-indent to 2 spaces.

  • [error-handling-idiom] tools/bootstrap.sh — ensure_fork_remote returns 0 after a fetch failure on the fork remote. The mixed return codes (1 for fork failure, 0 for fetch failure) make the contract subtle.
Remediation: Add a brief comment above the || { ... return 0; } block explaining why fetch failure is non-fatal.

  • [incomplete-doc] AGENTS.md — The Distrobox section documents make enter, make status, and make rebuild but omits make claude, which is in the Makefile and README.md.
Remediation: Add make claude to the AGENTS.md Distrobox code block.

  • [injection-vuln] tools/osac-helpers.sh:95 — Jira ticket summaries are appended unsanitized to .claude/CLAUDE.md. A crafted summary with newlines could inject markdown. Risk is bounded by Jira being team-controlled and authenticated.
    Remediation: Strip newlines: summary=$(echo "$raw" | jq -r '.fields.summary // empty' | tr -d '\n\r').

  • [pattern-inconsistency] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh — is_git_work_tree_root() is duplicated identically across .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh, and tools/bootstrap.sh. Claude hooks must remain self-contained, so hook duplication is justified; tools/bootstrap.sh could source it from tools/osac-helpers.sh.

  • [privilege-escalation] tools/distrobox/podman-socket-rootful.conf:11 — Sets SocketGroup=wheel on the rootful podman socket, granting wheel-group members root-equivalent container access without sudo. This is opt-in (requires explicit sudo install steps) and wheel-group members already have root via sudo, so the privilege delta is marginal.

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies files under protected paths (.claude/, AGENTS.md). The PR links to OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, OSAC-4010, and OSAC-4040, and the description explains the rationale for each change. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

  • [edge-case] tools/osac-helpers.sh:68 — The osac-new-worktree function invokes ./tools/bootstrap.sh without flags, so it runs the default fork path requiring gh. If gh is missing or unauthenticated, bootstrap.sh exits 1, but the worktree has already been created and the shell has cd'd into it. The user is left in a half-initialized worktree with no guidance on recovery (e.g., running ./tools/bootstrap.sh --no-fork).
Remediation: Improve the error message after bootstrap failure to suggest cd <target_dir> && ./tools/bootstrap.sh --no-fork as a recovery step.

Low

  • [error-handling] tools/bootstrap.sh:65 — The gh auth status call outputs status information to stderr even on success, producing noisy output during a normal bootstrap run. Other tools in the script run silently on success.
Remediation: if ! gh auth status &>/dev/null; then

  • [edge-case] .claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh:18 — When CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR is unset or empty, proj_wf becomes /.ai-workflows. While is_git_work_tree_root rejects this path in practice, the code constructs a path under / without guarding against the empty variable.

  • [privilege-escalation] tools/distrobox/podman-socket-rootful.conf:11 — The systemd drop-in grants the wheel group access to the rootful podman socket. While wheel membership typically already implies sudo access on Fedora/RHEL, this creates a persistent passwordless path to root-equivalent container operations. The setup is opt-in and documented.

  • [arbitrary-execution] tools/distrobox/podman-wrapper.sh:8 — The podman wrapper passes all arguments to the host via distrobox-host-exec. This is inherent to the distrobox architecture (not a security boundary by design), but combined with PODMAN_ROOTFUL=1 mode, code inside the distrobox can escalate to rootful host operations.

  • [code-duplication] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh — is_git_work_tree_root() is identically defined in three files: statusline.sh, update-ai-context.sh, and bootstrap.sh. If the logic needs updating, all three copies must be kept in sync.
Remediation: Consider extracting into a shared helper (e.g., tools/osac-helpers.sh).

  • [naming-convention] tools/osac-helpers.sh — The function osac-new-worktree uses a hyphenated name while all existing functions across tools/ and .claude/hooks/ use snake_case (e.g., update_git_repo, osac_ai_skills_vendor_ok). The other function in the same file (osac_jira_ticket_from_branch) uses snake_case.

  • [indentation-convention] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses 4-space indentation while all existing shell scripts in tools/ and .claude/hooks/ use 2-space indentation consistently.

  • [output-consistency] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh — The statusline resolves osac-ai-skills from both HOME and REPO_DIR, but AI_DIR for ai-workflows is hardcoded to HOME only. update-ai-context.sh checks both locations. A repo-local .ai-workflows would show as "not found" in the statusline while being correctly updated by the SessionStart hook.

Findings

Medium

  • [error-handling] tools/bootstrap.sh:55 — gh auth status output is not suppressed. This command prints authentication details (hostname, user, token type, scopes) to stderr. When the check passes, users see a multi-line auth dump interleaved with bootstrap output.
Remediation: Redirect output — if ! gh auth status &>/dev/null; then

  • [error-handling] tools/bootstrap.sh:298 — In ensure_fork_remote, after git fetch of the fork remote fails, the function returns 0 (success). The remote is added but never fetched. On subsequent bootstrap runs, fork_remote_push_matches finds the correctly-named remote and returns early, so the fetch is never retried — leaving the fork remote in a permanently broken state with no remote-tracking branches and no automatic recovery.
Remediation: Change return 0 to return 1 in the fetch failure handler so maybe_fork_sibling logs the failure and subsequent runs can detect the missing fetch and retry.

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies files under protected paths (.claude/ and AGENTS.md). The changes are justified by linked Jira tickets (OSAC-4483 for statusline, OSAC-3958 for AGENTS.md updates) and the PR body explains the rationale. Human approval is required for protected-path changes regardless of context.

Low

  • [privilege-escalation] tools/distrobox/podman-socket-rootful.conf:11 — The systemd drop-in grants all wheel group members direct access to the rootful podman socket without sudo authentication. While wheel members typically already have sudo access on Fedora/RHEL, this bypasses audit logging. Consider using a dedicated group or documenting the security trade-off.

  • [supply-chain-integrity] tools/distrobox/Containerfile:76 — Ginkgo is installed via go install without explicit checksum verification, unlike all other binary tools which verify upstream checksums. The Go module proxy provides some integrity via the checksum database, but this breaks the otherwise consistent verification pattern.

  • [supply-chain-integrity] tools/distrobox/Containerfile:98 — pip3 install and npm install -g install packages (pytest, ansible, @anthropic-ai/claude-code) without version pins or hash verification, making builds non-reproducible.

  • [indentation-consistency] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses 4-space indentation while all other shell scripts under tools/ consistently use 2-space indentation.

  • [code-duplication] tools/bootstrap.sh, .claude/hooks/statusline.sh — is_git_work_tree_root() is defined identically in both files. The codebase pattern is to share logic via source. Consider extracting to a shared helper.

  • [edge-case] tools/osac-helpers.sh:56 — osac-new-worktree calls ./tools/bootstrap.sh without forwarding flags. If gh is not authenticated, worktree creation succeeds but bootstrap fails, leaving a partially-set-up worktree.

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh:161 — update_git_repo now skips rebase when HEAD is not on main. This applies to vendor checkouts (~/.osac-ai-skills, ~/.ai-workflows) too — a developer on a vendor feature branch will see a skip message but vendors remain stale on subsequent runs with no prominent warning.

  • [injection-vuln] tools/osac-helpers.sh:70 — Jira ticket summary and issue_type are written to .claude/CLAUDE.md via printf without sanitization. A crafted Jira summary could inject markdown or instruction-like text into Claude Code's context file.

  • [naming-convention] tools/osac-helpers.sh:1 — Uses #!/bin/bash shebang while all other tools/ scripts use #!/usr/bin/env bash.

  • [error-handling-idiom] tools/osac-helpers.sh — Uses title-case Error: prefix in error messages while all other tools/ scripts use uppercase ERROR:.

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies files under protected paths (.claude/ and AGENTS.md). The PR links to Jira tickets OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, and OSAC-4011 with clear rationale for these changes. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

Low

  • [behavioral-change] tools/bootstrap.sh — The new update_git_repo() branch guard (if branch != "main", skip rebase) applies to vendor repos (osac-ai-skills, ai-workflows) in addition to the new sibling repos. Previously, vendor repos were unconditionally rebased onto origin/main on every bootstrap run. If a developer leaves ~/.osac-ai-skills on a feature branch, bootstrap now silently skips the update. Consider applying the branch guard only in ensure_sibling and keeping unconditional rebase for vendor repos, or document that developers on a vendor feature branch must manually return to main before running bootstrap.

  • [scope-creep] tools/bootstrap.sh — The fork management layer (ensure_fork_remote, is_github_fork_of_org_repo, fork_remote_push_matches, should_fork_sibling, maybe_fork_sibling) adds ~80 lines and makes authenticated gh CLI a new hard prerequisite for the default bootstrap path. The --no-fork escape hatch mitigates this, and gh CLI is already listed as a dev environment prerequisite in AGENTS.md.

  • [stderr-redirection-consistency] tools/bootstrap.sh:89 — gh auth status output is not suppressed, while other sub-commands in bootstrap.sh use -q or >/dev/null to minimize chatter. Consider: if ! gh auth status &>/dev/null; then.

  • [scope-alignment] AGENTS.md — The new "UI Reference (osac-ux)" section prescribes specific paths and usage patterns for /design:research and /implement:ingest skills, extending beyond the scope of OSAC-3958 (clone siblings) and OSAC-4483 (statusline).

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, AGENTS.md — These files are under protected paths (.claude/, AGENTS.md). The PR links to OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, and OSAC-4011, and the description explains the rationale for modifying these governance files (statusline addition for osac-ai-skills, documentation updates for sibling clone workflow). Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

  • [naming-inconsistency] tools/bootstrap.sh — The new fork remote is named fork (via FORK_REMOTE_NAME="fork"), but the AGENTS.md Critical Rules refer to the push remote as $PUSH_REMOTE (resolved by resolve-remotes.sh). This introduces a second naming convention for the push remote concept across sibling repos vs. the main osac checkout. Consider aligning with resolve-remotes.sh conventions, or documenting explicitly in the Critical Rules section that sibling repos use the fork remote name rather than the $PUSH_REMOTE/$UPSTREAM_REMOTE convention.

Low

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The new ‘UI Reference (osac-ux)’ section introduces detailed guidance on which osac-ux paths to read during /design:research and /implement:ingest, including directives to use TypeScript fields as proto names. While documenting consumption paths is tightly coupled to introducing the osac-ux clone, the workflow guidance goes beyond the scope of the three linked Jira issues. Consider splitting into a separate PR with its own Jira reference, or adding explicit issue coverage.

  • [error-handling-inconsistency] tools/bootstrap.sh — gh auth status produces output on stderr even on success, which mixes into the bootstrap console output. The adjacent command -v gh &>/dev/null suppresses its output. Consider if ! gh auth status &>/dev/null; for consistency, though the output arguably provides useful authentication confirmation.

  • [behavior-change] tools/bootstrap.sh — The new branch guard in update_git_repo (skip update when HEAD is not main) now applies to vendor checkouts (~/.osac-ai-skills, ~/.ai-workflows) in addition to sibling repos. Previously, vendor updates always attempted fetch + rebase with --autostash. This is an intentional improvement (avoids rebasing developer feature branches), but changes existing behavior for developers who relied on automatic vendor updates while on non-main branches.

Human approval is always required for protected-path changes regardless of context.

Low

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh — GH_USER is set via gh api user -q .login with no empty-string guard. If the API call succeeds but returns empty (e.g., GitHub App token or unexpected /user schema), get_fork_url produces malformed URLs like git@github.com:/docs.git and is_github_fork_of_org_repo queries /<repo> which fails confusingly.
    Remediation: Add [[ -n "$GH_USER" ]] || { echo "ERROR: could not determine GitHub username." >&2; exit 1; }

  • [error-handling] tools/bootstrap.sh — gh auth status prints verbose multi-line auth details to stderr on success, cluttering an otherwise clean bootstrap run. The adjacent command -v gh check correctly suppresses with &>/dev/null.
Remediation: if ! gh auth status &>/dev/null; then

  • [scope-expansion] AGENTS.md — The new "UI Reference (osac-ux)" section prescribes skill integration patterns (/design:research, /implement:ingest), path tables for osac-ux internals, and a proto-naming convention (camelCase → snake_case with UX Alignment mapping table). These establish new workflow requirements for EP authors beyond the sibling cloning authorized by OSAC-3958. Consider splitting to a dedicated Jira task or expanding scope.

  • [error-handling-idiom] tools/bootstrap.sh — Unknown option error message uses echo "Unknown option: $1" without the ERROR: prefix used consistently elsewhere in the file.
Remediation: echo "ERROR: Unknown option: $1" >&2

  • [code-organization] tools/bootstrap.sh — The new sibling-cloning section lacks the # --- <section> --- divider used for the existing osac-ai-skills and ai-workflows sections.
Remediation: Add # --- sibling repos --- before the SIBLINGS array.

  • [logic-error] tools/bootstrap.sh:232 — fork_remote_push_matches() uses a bare suffix match ([[ "${push_url%.git}" == *"$expected_suffix" ]]) without requiring a path-separator boundary (/ or :). The sibling function is_expected_sibling(), introduced in the same PR at line 207, includes the safer boundary-aware pattern (*"/${expected_suffix}" || *":${expected_suffix}"). A push URL whose path ends in a superset of the expected suffix (e.g., bobalice/docs matching suffix alice/docs) would produce a false positive, causing the script to skip re-adding the real fork remote on re-runs.
    Remediation: Change [[ "${push_url%.git}" == *"$expected_suffix" ]] to [[ "${push_url%.git}" == *"/${expected_suffix}" || "${push_url%.git}" == *":${expected_suffix}" ]].

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The new ## UI Reference (osac-ux) section prescribes development conventions (specific path guidance for /design:research and /implement:ingest, proto field naming from osac-ux types, mandatory ## UX Alignment mapping table in EPs, and a gen-api-diff.mjs script workflow) not authorized by OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, or OSAC-4011. The sibling clone itself is authorized; the layered conventions are not.
Remediation: Keep the osac-ux entry in External Repos (authorized). Move the ## UI Reference section to a follow-up PR backed by its own Jira issue.

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies files under protected paths (.claude/ and AGENTS.md). The PR links to Jira issues (OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483) and the description explains the rationale for these changes. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

Low

  • [code-organization] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:49 — resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir() is defined between variable assignments (after REPO_DIR= on line 47, before AI_DIR= on line 57), breaking the file's established pattern where all functions (log_info, log_warning, log_muted, repo_status) are grouped in a contiguous block above the variable-assignment section.
Remediation: Move resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir() into the helper-function block (after repo_status()), matching the file's structure.

  • [output-format-consistency] tools/bootstrap.sh:88 — gh auth status prints multi-line authentication details to stderr on the success path (hostname, auth method, token scopes). The script generally uses -q flags on external invocations and curated echo messages.
Remediation: Change to if ! gh auth status &>/dev/null; then

  • [error-handling-idiom] tools/bootstrap.sh:253 — In ensure_fork_remote, gh repo view suppresses stdout but not stderr. If the fork does not exist, gh repo view prints an error to stderr before the script's curated skip message.
Remediation: Redirect both streams: if ! gh repo view "${GH_USER}/${repo}" &>/dev/null; then

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The "UI Reference (osac-ux)" section includes workflow-specific guidance (paths for /design:research and /implement:ingest, proto naming conventions, gen-api-diff.mjs command). While AGENTS.md is the right place for agent instructions, consider whether skill-specific guidance should live in osac-ai-skills.

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The "PRD and design publish remotes" section is a pragmatic workaround for the origin-push bug in flightctl skills. The PR body acknowledges this belongs upstream. Consider tracking the upstream fix in a Jira issue to prevent staleness.

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh:241 — fork_remote_push_matches uses a bare glob suffix check (*"$expected_suffix") without path-separator boundary, unlike is_expected_sibling which requires / or : before the org name. Impact is benign (script would skip adding the fork remote), but the inconsistency is worth noting.

  • [edge-case] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:54 — When REPO_DIR is empty (no $1 argument and jq unavailable), resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir() produces /.osac-ai-skills (root-relative path). repo_status handles this gracefully ("not found"), but the function performs a spurious check against the root directory.
Remediation: Guard against empty REPO_DIR in the function.

  • [naming-consistency] tools/bootstrap.sh:169 — The ${entry#*:} / ${entry%%:*} parameter expansion in the SIBLINGS loop relies on implicit bash behavior when no colon is present (returns the full string). The # Format: comment above the array documents this, but the expansion site itself is not self-documenting.
Remediation: Add a brief inline comment at the expansion site.

  • [comment-style] tools/bootstrap.sh:127 — Existing bootstrap.sh sections use # --- <name> --- separator comments (e.g., # --- osac-ai-skills ---). The new sibling-clones section uses a plain comment without the separator pattern.
Remediation: Add # --- sibling repos --- before the SIBLINGS array.

  • [function-placement] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:50 — resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir() is defined between variable assignments (after REPO_DIR, before AI_DIR), breaking the "functions first, then assignments" layout established by log_info, log_warning, log_muted, and repo_status.
Remediation: Move the function up alongside the other function definitions.

Findings

Medium

  • [protected-path] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh, AGENTS.md — This PR modifies files under protected paths (.claude/ and AGENTS.md). The PR links to OSAC-3958, OSAC-4483, and OSAC-4011, and the description explains the rationale for these changes. Human approval is always required for protected-path changes, regardless of context.

Low

  • [edge-case] tools/bootstrap.sh:160 — When git clone fails in ensure_sibling, a partially-created destination directory is not cleaned up. On re-run, is_expected_sibling returns false and prints “Skipping” without a clear recovery path. Consider adding rm -rf "${dest}" 2>/dev/null || true after the failure message.

  • [edge-case] .gitignore:8 — New entries (enhancement-proposals/, osac-ux/, etc.) lack a leading /, matching directories at any depth. Consistent with existing convention (skills/, .osac-ai-skills/), but adding / would scope to repo root only.

  • [insufficient-input-validation] tools/bootstrap.sh:143 — is_expected_sibling uses a glob suffix match (*"$expected_suffix") that could match similarly-named orgs (e.g., evil-osac-project/docs). Exploitation requires prior filesystem compromise, making this theoretical. An anchored match with a / separator before osac-project would tighten validation.

  • [naming-convention] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:47 — resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir is defined above the REPO_DIR assignment it references. Works correctly (invoked after assignment), but placing it after REPO_DIR would improve readability.

  • [naming-convention] tools/bootstrap.sh:129 — The SIBLINGS array uses an undocumented repo:dir colon convention (e.g., docs:osac-docs). The comment above partially explains the mapping, but a format comment like # Format: "repo" or "repo:local-dir" would clarify the general mechanism.

  • [output-message-consistency] tools/bootstrap.sh:166 — "Cloning sibling repos..." runs unconditionally, including when all siblings already exist and will be updated or skipped. Consider "Ensuring sibling repos..." or "Syncing sibling repos...".

  • [scope-creep] AGENTS.md — The “UI Reference (osac-ux)” section adds detailed path tables and proto-naming conventions that go beyond the three linked issues (sibling clones, statusline, skill sequence pointer). Consider splitting into its own issue for traceability.

  • [shell-idiom-consistency] .claude/hooks/statusline.sh:1 — Uses #!/bin/bash while all scripts in tools/ use #!/usr/bin/env bash. Pre-existing; not introduced by this PR.

  • [error-handling-idiom] tools/bootstrap.sh:137 — is_expected_sibling uses git -C while existing update_git_repo uses (cd ... && git ...) subshells. Both work correctly; noting the style mix for awareness.

OSAC-4011 companion PRs (merge order in the description below):

  1. osac-project/osac-ai-skills#25 — canonical sequence (merge first)
  2. This PR — pointer works as a GitHub URL even before Bug: One-shot attach (Pending → Attached) uses wrong service lookup for address population #25; local .osac-ai-skills/README.md section exists only after Bug: One-shot attach (Pending → Attached) uses wrong service lookup for address population #25 is on main and bootstrap refreshes
  3. OSAC-4011: Stub AI-assisted-development-workflow.md osac-workspace#225 — stub; merge after Bug: One-shot attach (Pending → Attached) uses wrong service lookup for address population #25 so the anchor exists

Addressed the fullsend notes in c0a6b14:

  • Failed sibling clone now removes the dest so a later run can retry (plus smoke).
  • Expected-clone match requires / or : before osac-project/<repo>.
  • SIBLINGS format comment, Ensuring sibling repos..., and resolve_osac_ai_skills_dir moved below REPO_DIR.
  • README sequence now matches AGENTS.md (includes Jira sync and E2E). Vendor paths were already both named.

Left as-is: .gitignore without leading / (matches existing vendor ignores), shebang, git -C vs subshell.

UI Reference stays: osac-ux is in the clone list so /design:research and @temp-api survive workspace decommission (called out in the PR body). Protected-path edits are the 4483 hook and 4011 pointer.

Tighten assert_fork_remote to require a path boundary.

## [OSAC-4818](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-4818): port
--fork-name and docs fork-overrides to bootstrap.sh

**Jira:** https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-4818
**Story type:** Task (Epic
[OSAC-3558](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3558); predecessor
[OSAC-3958](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3958) / osac-project#579)

### Summary

Port workspace `--fork-name` and docs fork-overrides into
`tools/bootstrap.sh` so writeable siblings get a usable push remote
without changing how skills resolve remotes. `--fork-name origin`
performs an occupant-guarded rename of org `origin` to `upstream` (or
`osac-upstream` if taken) and adds the developer fork as `origin`.
`osac-project/docs` maps to GitHub fork `$USER/osac-docs` by default.
Flags only rearrange remotes on writeable siblings; this checkout,
`osac-ux`, and vendors are never renamed. `--no-fork` still wins.

### Changes

- **`tools/bootstrap.sh`:** `--fork-name NAME` (default `fork`);
occupant-URL rename dance; URL-based sibling update (origin-or-fork
layout); default `docs` → `osac-docs` mapping; optional
`tools/fork-overrides.sh`; `gh repo fork --fork-name` when names differ.
- **`tools/test/bootstrap-sibling-clone-smoke.sh`:** smokes for
`--fork-name origin`, docs mapping, `--no-fork` wins, occupant skip,
vendor/`osac-ux`/root non-interference.
- **`tools/fork-overrides.sh.example`:** extra `FORK_OVERRIDE_PAIRS`
mappings; `tools/fork-overrides.sh` gitignored.
- **`AGENTS.md` / `README.md`:** sibling-only contract, pick-a-name,
`--no-fork` wins, worktree extra args.

### Testing

- **Unit tests:** PATH-stubbed sibling-clone smokes (`bash
tools/test/bootstrap-sibling-clone-smoke.sh`) — all passed.
- **Integration tests:** N/A (bootstrap harness only).
- **Coverage:** Public CLI paths for this story are covered (default
`fork`, `--fork-name origin` fresh/re-run/collision, `--no-fork`, docs
`osac-docs`, overrides file, never-fork ux/vendors).

### Acceptance Criteria

- [ ] AC-1: `--fork-name NAME` (default `fork`); skills resolve remotes
by URL.
- [ ] AC-2: `--fork-name origin` on a fresh writeable sibling renames
org `origin` → `upstream` (or `osac-upstream` if taken) and adds the
fork as `origin`.
- [ ] AC-3: Only rename if occupant URL is `osac-project/<repo>`. No-op
if the target remote already points at the fork. Document: pick a name
and stick with it.
- [ ] AC-4: Map `osac-project/docs` GitHub fork to `$USER/osac-docs`.
- [ ] AC-5: Never fork `osac-ux` or vendors (`.osac-ai-skills`,
`.ai-workflows`) regardless of `--fork-name`.
- [ ] AC-6: AGENTS.md / README updated; smokes for `--fork-name origin`
and the docs override.

<!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai
-->
## Areas affected

- **Bootstrap tooling:** Adds `--fork-name`, validation, fork overrides,
upstream URL detection, and remote renaming for writable sibling
repositories.
- **Repository setup:** Maps `osac-project/docs` to the default
`$USER/osac-docs` fork.
- **Scope controls:** Excludes the root checkout, `osac-ux`, and vendor
repositories. Gives `--no-fork` precedence.
- **Configuration:** Adds an ignored local override path and an example
configuration file.
- **Tests:** Expands sibling-clone smoke tests for URL validation, fetch
and push URL handling, remote fallback, overrides, renaming, logging,
and exclusions.
- **Documentation:** Updates bootstrap, worktree, fork, and
external-repository guidance.
- **API, controllers, database, auth, deployment, and CI:** No
implementation changes.

## Backward compatibility

Existing bootstrap usage remains supported. Fork behavior changes only
for writable sibling repositories. Bootstrap can rename or update Git
remotes when fork configuration requires it. `--no-fork` prevents fork
operations but does not restore remotes changed by an earlier run.

## Risk classification

**risk:show** — The change affects local bootstrap behavior and Git
remote configuration. It includes input validation, focused smoke tests,
explicit repository exclusions, credential-safe logging, and an opt-out
with `--no-fork`.

It does not qualify for **risk:ship** because the change can rename or
update Git remotes. It does not qualify for **risk:ask** because it does
not affect production services, deployed artifacts, authentication
systems, or persistent application data.

## [OSAC-3958](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3958): Clone
skill-relative sibling repos on bootstrap

**Jira:** [OSAC-3958](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3958),
[OSAC-4483](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-4483),
[OSAC-4011](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-4011) (osac pointer
only), [OSAC-4010](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-4010),
[OSAC-4040](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-4040)
**Story type:** Task

Depends on osac-project#307 (merged). Workspace 4011 stub already
landed as osac-project/osac-workspace#225.

### Summary

Standalone `osac/` bootstrap now clones the skill-relative sibling repos
this checkout still needs (PRD/design, UI, docs) into gitignored dirs so
those paths survive `osac-workspace` cutover. `/e2e` writes
[`tests/e2e/`](tests/e2e/) in this repo
([OSAC-3593](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3593));
`osac-test-infra` is **not** cloned. Writeable siblings get a `fork`
remote (workspace-shaped: `origin` = osac-project, `fork` = you). The
Claude status line shows `osac-ai-skills` the same way it shows
`ai-workflows`. `AGENTS.md` points at the canonical Feature → PRD →
Design sequence in osac-ai-skills (canonical copy:
[osac-ai-skills#25](https://github.com/osac-project/osac-ai-skills/pull/25)).
Distrobox (`make enter`) and `osac-new-worktree` are ported here so they
are not workspace-only.

### Siblings cloned by `tools/bootstrap.sh`

Default: `gh` fork of the writeable three. `--no-fork` for CI/read-only.
Clone/fork failures warn-and-continue so skill install still runs.
Nested `osac/` inside `osac-workspace` still aborts (use a standalone
clone or worktree). Never forked: `osac-ux`, `.osac-ai-skills`,
`.ai-workflows`.

| GitHub repo | Local path (gitignored) | Fork remote | Why |
|-------------|-------------------------|-------------|-----|
|
[enhancement-proposals](https://github.com/osac-project/enhancement-proposals)
| `enhancement-proposals/` | yes | PRD/design `/publish` + `/respond` |
| [osac-ux](https://github.com/osac-project/osac-ux) | `osac-ux/` | no |
`/design:research`, `/implement:ingest` `@temp-api` (not osac-ui) |
| [osac-ui](https://github.com/osac-project/osac-ui) | `osac-ui/` | yes
| production console; `/osac-release` |
| [docs](https://github.com/osac-project/docs) | `osac-docs/` | yes |
personas / architecture guides. **Not** in-tree `docs/`
(`ARCHITECTURE.md`, `CONVENTIONS.md`) |

Not in this list: `osac-ai-skills` and `ai-workflows` (already vendored
by osac-project#307). Mono-repo components and E2E suites (`tests/e2e/`,
[OSAC-3593](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3593)) are already
in-tree.
[osac-test-infra](https://github.com/osac-project/osac-test-infra) is
not cloned — infra backends / `/debug-e2e` only; do not add test suites
there.

### Changes

- **`tools/bootstrap.sh`:** declarative `SIBLINGS` list (`"repo"` or
`"repo:local-dir"`) after skill install. Never clones into tracked
`docs/`. Default `gh` forks on writeable siblings; `--no-fork` for
clone-only. Empty `GH_USER` from `gh api user` fails before fork URLs
are built. Leftover `.ai-workflows` / `.osac-ai-skills` dirs must be git
work-tree roots before fetch/rebase.
- **`.claude/hooks/update-ai-context.sh`:** same leftover-dest guard on
SessionStart (do not `git -C` a leftover `~/.ai-workflows`); skip rebase
off `main`; fall back to repo-local.
- **`Makefile` + `tools/distrobox/`:** Distrobox image (`make enter` /
`make claude`). Tool binaries in the image are x86_64 only (see
`tools/distrobox/Containerfile`). Podman wrapper lives here (`kind-dev`
was removed in
[OSAC-3752](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3752)).
- **`tools/osac-helpers.sh`:** `osac-new-worktree` for this repo
(`../osac-<branch-basename>`, then `tools/bootstrap.sh`). Jira keys in
the branch name use `awk` for the leftmost `OSAC-NNNN` so sourcing from
zsh works. Jira fetch uses `timeout` then `gtimeout`, or skips if
neither is present. Bootstrap failure prints that cwd is already the
worktree plus a `--no-fork` recovery command.
- **`AGENTS.md` / `README.md`:** External Repos, EP publish paths,
Distrobox (Linux/x86_64), worktrees, 4011 skill-sequence pointer. `/e2e`
→ `tests/e2e/`
([OSAC-3593](https://redhat.atlassian.net/browse/OSAC-3593));
`osac-test-infra` is not a bootstrap sibling.

### Testing

- **Unit tests:** `tools/test/bootstrap-sibling-clone-smoke.sh`
(including empty `GH_USER`),
`tools/test/statusline-osac-ai-skills-smoke.sh`,
`tools/test/osac-new-worktree-smoke.sh` (guards, dest/bootstrap, first
Jira key, timeout/`gtimeout`/skip, cwd hint, zsh nounset),
`tools/test/update-ai-context-smoke.sh` (leftover HOME dest, repo-local
fallback, skip off `main`). Existing
`link-agent-skills-consumer-smoke.sh` still passes.
- **Integration tests:** N/A (bootstrap/statusline/helpers). Distrobox
image build is not CI-smoked.
- **Coverage:** smokes cover `--no-fork` and stubbed `gh` fork remotes.
Live bootstrap without `--no-fork` will create GitHub forks.

### Acceptance Criteria

- [x] AC-1 (3958): `enhancement-proposals` clones as a sibling on
`bootstrap.sh` run
- [x] AC-2 (3958): adding a future sibling requires only a list entry
- [x] AC-1 (4483): resolve `~/.osac-ai-skills` else
`$REPO/.osac-ai-skills`
- [x] AC-2 (4483): missing → muted `osac-ai-skills: not found`
- [x] AC-3 (4483): present → branch + `✓` / `↓N`
- [x] AC-4 (4483): recovery remains `tools/bootstrap.sh`; no extra
