Discount request errors: "School email must be verified on your GitHub account"

Hi everyone,

I probably encountered some kind of bug during my application for GitHub Education. I have a verified university email connected to my account, but when I click the Submit Application button this error pops up:
There was an error creating the discount request. Errors: Discount request could not be created. Discount request errors: School email must be verified on your GitHub account

• I tried deleting the email from my account and readding it. Verification was successful, but the application still doesn't go through.
• I tried submitting from my laptop and from my phone.

Hi @janosikvoj,

Make sure your academic email is set as primary and also try to log out and log back in before submitting your application.

If the problem persists, I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and explain your issue.

I’ve seen this error happen before even when the email looks verified.

A few things that might help:

Make sure ur school email is set as ur primary email on GitHub (Settings > Emails). Sometimes GitHub only checks the primary one for verification.

Also double-check if the email domain (e.g. @university.edu) is part of GitHub’s accepted school domains. If not, the system might reject it even if it’s verified.

u can try removing all other emails temporarily from your GitHub acc and keep only the school one during the application — just to rule out conflicts.

If none of that works, best option is to contact GitHub Education support directly here. They can manually review and fix it.

Hope there is any help soon.
I used it before and was happy after parental leave I needed to register again but now this 😢

I've received a new answer to my ticket:

"Please apply again in your GitHub settings and this time please do not select your school from the list.

Instead please type in “Workaround” into the school select box.

Please also take a screen recording of your application attempt.

Once you have submitted your application, please reply to this email so that we may assist you with next steps."

It didn’t work for me either. But I believe that’s exactly the point of the workaround: since you have to manually enter various details about your college or university, the idea is to screen record the entire process and then send that video to the support team. That way, they can manually verify your eligibility for the GitHub Student Developer Pack and potentially grant you access.

Hell yeahh!!! Done for me.

Ok. I dont know how it worked, BUT IT WORKED!!

what I did:

(keep uni mail as primary)

1. logged in through my phone (while location was off) --> Showed location error
2. I turned on my location. --> still showing the same error
3. I logged out.
4. logged in in incognito --> had the same error.
5. switched to desktop and it worked.

Idk what happened, or github actually might have fixed the bug.

So, I opened a ticket and got this response and then i tried the all of this stuff.

SOLUTION:

1. Open a TICKET, github is manually allowing ppl (ig).
2. Do all the stuff I have mentioned (idk might work)

I don't know what made the difference (I used my phone with cellular data) or maybe they fixed it.

I didnt do anything different to yesterday (I had the same problem), and managed to apply for it, it was probably an error from GH, just give it a try
Just in case:
I have my primary gmail as my uni gmail
Still having my personal mail as the secondary mail in GH
Of course both verified
I have my bill info also (not card, just my address and stuff)
And just tried to apply for it and it went thru!

Hey everyone
I'm having the same errors but the difference is, my college doesn't issue any academic E-mail addresses to us hence, it throws this error:
There was an error creating the discount request. Errors: Discount request could not be created. Discount request errors: We require applicants to use a school-issued email address to apply.

I've tried reaching out to support with a fee receipt, let's see if they even reply
