The UI for creating new list seems grayed out and can't type in the inputs. and when I clicked on the "Share feedback" the window will stay floating.

just now had the issue where a new floating window pops up but can't be edited or tabbed to edit. typing defaults to editing the navigation path to the code page.

Same. And when I attempted to type "E" as the initial letter of the list name, it sent an error message about requesting a fork.

I tried giving the repo a star first and then it worked. Seems like it is coded that only already stared repos can be added to a list.

Glad to know it's not only me. I am totally unable to create any new list. Before that, even the add list button was missing.

I just stays on the greyed out UI until I refresh the page:

My Method (Works for Me, at Least)

To elaborate on what @JenBytes stated, whenever you need to Star a repo by adding it to a new List, (i.e., from a repo page), first Star the repo the normal way (click the Star button), and then click the drop-down arrow and hit Create List at the bottom.

A Caveat: However, in my experience, when you create a list this way, the new list won't appear in your "List of Lists" drop-down until you refresh the newly starred repo's page, after which your new list (and the new Star) will show up.

A simple alternative is to create a list directly by means of the Your Stars page (at https://github.com/YOUR_USERNAME?tab=stars) in your GitHub settings, or as follows:

• Open your GitHub options/settings (click your profile pic in the top-right corner of any page).
• Scroll down to the Your Stars item and click it.
• It should take you to a page where you can manage all your Stars (and, of course, Lists).
• The top of the page should have a section Lists (x) (x being your total number of lists).

Clicking the Create List button will help you add a new one, and the Sort button directly to its left will let you sort the order they appear in future drop-downs (on repo pages).

Summary

It's a bit of a pain at the moment.😣 I was confused at first too, but once you make a few lists either of those two ways, it's pretty simple. Good luck! 🫡

An easy way to do it:
Click on the "Create List" button, after the pop-up window, press e on your keyboard, this will trigger the fork operation (the operation will not succeed), but you will find that you can create a list at this point.

PS: When you click the Create List button pop-up window, click the spacebar multiple times, and the pop-up background will get darker and darker.

I encountered the same issue but found a workaround:

1. Start the repository with any tag.
2. Then, proceed to create a list – this should now work.

In my case, after clicking 'Create List,' the process initially stopped, but after refreshing the page, I saw that the list had been successfully created.

i have the same trouble but, this happens to me when im in someone's repository when i click on stars but i choose the option "create new list" then it does not let me do any input, but when i pres ESC (it will close the dropdown menu) and i can type normally.

The UI for creating new list seems grayed out and can't type in the inputs. and when I clicked on the "Share feedback" the window will stay floating.

Even tabbing to try and select the fields doesn't work, but only cycles through the existing lists section on the top-right side of the page

However, as per https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/141435#discussioncomment-11139375 pressing escape will close the list-selection while keeping the "New list" popup visible, which then enables the text fields, allowing new lists to be created.

1. Open the star dropdown menu (for a non-starred repo)
   • 
2. Click "+ Create list"
   • 
3. Notice text fields are disabled
4. Press escape
   • 
5. Notice star dropdown menu has closed, but "Create list" popup remains open
6. Notice text fields are now enabled
   •
