For folks who want to support this project, please review and approve open-telemetry/opentelemetry-specification#5118 first. |

@cijothomas please help resolve the open comments on the OTEP, then we will merge it and accept this project proposal. Thanks! |
Done! (The OTEP had one open conversation, which I resolved now.) Let me know if anything else required. |
) Proposes `open-telemetry/benchmarks` — a project-owned repository for cross-language scenario definitions, release-over-release benchmark tracking, and a public GitHub Pages dashboard. Scope is intentionally minimal: one scenario (API-only counter increment), at least two language harnesses, and a manual per-release update cadence. A working prototype with .NET, Rust, and Java harnesses and a live dashboard is linked in the Prototypes section. Project proposal (staffing, maintainers, TC/GC sponsors) is handled in the companion community PR: open-telemetry/community#3495 --------- Co-authored-by: Martin Costello <martin@martincostello.com>

@cijothomas you (or @martincostello ) can create the PR in admin, it doesn't need to be an admin. Example of a recent one: https://github.com/open-telemetry/admin/pull/727/changes |
Companion to OTEP 5109 (open-telemetry/opentelemetry-specification#5118).
Proposes a small, time-boxed project to stand up open-telemetry/benchmarks with v1 scope = Scenario S1 (cost of doing metric recording when no sdk is present) published for 2-3 languages on a public dashboard. Working prototypes already exist (.NET / Rust / Java) at https://cijothomas.github.io/otel-benchmarks/
