The update experience is largely held together with toothpicks and bubblegum. A few oddities with the UX stand out:

  • Download progress is unclear/indeterminate
  • Extraction/Installation progress is not provided #40
  • The app doesn't auto relaunch like expected after updating
  • If the auto-update setting is not enabled, there is no prompt/check for new versions
  • Inbox Scripts are never added unless it is a fresh install
  • Scripts XML doesn't handle adding in new properties
  • Add New Settings to XML While Preserving Existing User Values #33
  • No checks for incompatibilities between versions
  • Updating Updater.ps1 between versions
  • Little error handling / recovery (Handling write access violations, proxy/download errors, storage issues, etc.)
