Dead windows in `aerospace list-windows --all`

Occasionally I have an issue where Aerospace will think there is is a window that doesnt exist:

This messes up the tiling as it creates an empty space for this non existant window.
It's clear that aerospace knows the window doesn't exist via the output from aerospace focus, maybe it could prune dead ones occasionally or something?

This only seems to happen with the ChatGPT native Mac client.

Could potentially be related to #445 although that says it was fixed in a previous version, maybe a regression or new issue

I am on the latest :

I accidentially reproduced it. I don't know what are the steps. Though for me the windows don't take up the space but only appear in list-windows --all output.

Theories:

Fwiw I am running only my mac air screen (no external monitors), and it still happens. I do think it could be related to screen lock though. Sometimes after returning from lock screen my windows are in the wrong spaces

I’ve also had this happen today. For me it was Zen browser causing it (at least I think, closing it fixed the issue). I also have the ChatGPT app open though.

When I’m back at my desk later I’ll attempt to run the cli to check the tree output and report back.

I get this with both Firefox and Firefox Developer Edition for some reason. At first I thought it may have been related to #68, but it's not.

I just happened to be looking into this same issue over the past day or two. I sent out #1259, which fixes at least one cause that I observed by adding a bunch of print debugging. Unfortunately, I didn't come up with a reliable repro sequence either (the issue I noticed involves failure to register observers, which I would expect could happen if an app is slow to respond, or if this code races with window close). I haven't had a recurrence with this patch yet.

I think the macOS desktop widgets are being detected as floating windows also, but only after waking up from sleep. These windows go away after restarting aerospace, but return after waking up. These are also accessible with focus-window keybindings.

Can you try removing the widgets on your desktop?
