I got the checksum failures when runing the command

# ./mptcp_connect.sh -C

It seems easy to reproduce.

Here I attached the kernel log and pcap files.

From the last meeting we just had:

  • @pabeni tried to reproduce the issue but he was not able to.
  • @geliangtang: was there anything else applied on top of the export branch?

I reproduced this issue just using the export branch, no other patch applied.

I used a loop to run mptcp_connect.sh:

for i in seq 1 10; do sudo ./mptcp_connect.sh -C; done

And monitor the kernel log to check if the checksum failures happened:

sudo cat /proc/kmsg | grep MP_FAIL

This patch added the data checksum error mib counter check for the
script mptcp_connect.sh when the data checksum is enabled.

The output looks like this:

ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (dead:beef:2::1:10009) MPTCP   (duration    81ms) [ FAIL ]
client got 1 data checksum error[s]
ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (10.0.2.1:10008      ) MPTCP   (duration    64ms) [ FAIL ]

This patch added the data checksum error mib counters check for the
script mptcp_connect.sh when the data checksum is enabled.

In do_transfer(), got the mib counters twice, before and after running
the mptcp_connect commands. The latter minus the former is the actual
number of the data checksum mib counter.

The output looks like this:

ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (dead:beef:1::2:10007) MPTCP   (duration    86ms) [ OK ]
ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (10.0.2.1:10008      ) MPTCP   (duration    66ms) [ FAIL ]

[ Upstream commit 24720d7 ]

This patch added the data checksum error mib counters check for the
script mptcp_connect.sh when the data checksum is enabled.

In do_transfer(), got the mib counters twice, before and after running
the mptcp_connect commands. The latter minus the former is the actual
number of the data checksum mib counter.

The output looks like this:

ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (dead:beef:1::2:10007) MPTCP   (duration    86ms) [ OK ]
ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (10.0.2.1:10008      ) MPTCP   (duration    66ms) [ FAIL ]

ns1 MPTCP -> ns2 (10.0.2.1:10008      ) MPTCP   (duration    66ms) [ FAIL ]

When building on ARM in thumb mode with gcc-11.3 at -O2 or -O3,
nolibc-test segfaults during the select() tests. It turns out that at
this level, gcc recognizes an opportunity for using memset() to zero
the fd_set, but it miscompiles it because it also recognizes a memset
pattern as well, and decides to call memset() from the memset() code:

  000122bc <memset>:
     122bc:       b510            push    {r4, lr}
     122be:       0004            movs    r4, r0
     122c0:       2a00            cmp     r2, #0
     122c2:       d003            beq.n   122cc <memset+0x10>
     122c4:       23ff            movs    r3, #255        ; 0xff
     122c6:       4019            ands    r1, r3
     122c8:       f7ff fff8       bl      122bc <memset>
     122cc:       0020            movs    r0, r4
     122ce:       bd10            pop     {r4, pc}

Simply placing an empty asm() statement inside the loop suffices to
avoid this.

Add a new test case which performs double query of the bpf_mprog through
libbpf API, but also via raw bpf(2) syscall. This is testing to gather
first the count and then in a subsequent probe the full information with
the program array without clearing passed structs in between.

With numa balancing on, when a numa system is running where a numa node
doesn't have its local memory so it has no managed zones, the following
oops has been observed. It's because wakeup_kswapd() is called with a
wrong zone index, -1. Fixed it by checking the index before calling
wakeup_kswapd().
