plugin not WAI in firefox v 56/57 #235
Comments
Hi @Ymirithe, Thank you for using Lightbeam. You need to visit/open new websites and come back and visit/open Lightbeam to see the graph visualisation. Let me know if you still have issues. |
I can confirm: not working with Firefox 57 |
I also confirm: not working with FF 57.0.4 |
Hey there, no idea what is the issue. But we have tested and it works fine even on FF 58. |
There's some kind of a problem (apparently!?), with various users reporting - I don't even know what they're reporting, but they're not lazy to log in to their accounts and give the Add-on a 1-star rating on https://addons.mozilla.org/ which is pretty retarded; no options there to eliminate their rants from the results, or display. :-/ Screenshot @ (Anyway, I get that I'm spamming -this- now, but it's just annoying as heck. :)) |
Hey there, do you all still have this issue? I have not been able to debug this, could someone please provide more details (OS, browser version etc.), screencasts on the original problem? Thank you. |
Hi. Problem still present. FF 60.0. Windows 8.1. Lightbeam 2.1.0. |
@Korrigan29 thank you for the prompt reply. I assume you to have done this, but asking explicitly, after installing Lightbeam, have you visited some websites? Lightbeam needs active browsing history once installed to be able to show the graph. |
Yes, of course ;) |
Great, thank you for your inputs. Will reach out soon if I need more info 👍 |
Having said that, I just tried to uninstall LB, exit FF, reinstalled FB and restarted FF. Now the FB icon doesn't even appear any more on the top right corner of FF. There's just an empty space where the icon should be, goes grey when hovering the mouse and indicating "Firefox Lightbeam" in the tooltip. Nothing happens when clicking this grey square. Same in private mode or not. That was not the case before I reinstalled FB. |
Firefox 62.0 (64-bit), same status as ☝️
|

Sup. its been a million years. since then. reinstalled window new computer and all. new everything. installed light-beam in Firefox. again. with no plugin to interfere. Browsed for about an hour. i think i visited about 200 different website, nothing. Tried to pump Firefox in administrator mod and compatibility mode for every OS. Tried to play around with the XPI file with different archive software. tried to boot window in safe mode with internet. I even tried trowing light-beam in palemoon browser and in tor browser. Tried it on 3 other computer as intensely as stated above. The button in the upper screen does render. the plugin page stay black. all the icon and button in the plugin page does nothing. I'm thinking about setting up virtual machine to simulate mac and Linux and window xp. but I'm not sure its really worth it as a plugin is not supposed to require such an IMMENSE amount of tinkering to work. Firefox version is 56, window OS is window 10 family 64bit latest September 2018 update (same OS for other computers too), every drivers and every software except for Firefox are up to date (because anything after V56 can't load most of the existing Firefox plugin). even the BIOS is up to date, plugin version is 2.1.0 when i downloaded is was 2.0.4 and it was already not working. plugin is not working at all. My suggestion would be to implement a debug log to see what the plugin does and if there is any component that can't load or render. unfortunately. i have no idea how to do that . Also, kgbm3 yea, you. i don't know who you think you are and i don't care. you don't say stuff like that its childish, its whiny, its retarded and unprofessional. |
Please keep comments respectful. @Ymirithe If you're running in Firefox 56, this extension is not going to work. It uses the new WebExtensions API that was released in Firefox 57. |
i see. do you know witch version of the plugin would be compatible with 56 per chance ? that may be a better solution actually. i recall https://addons.mozilla.org keep all past versions of any plugins. i think i understand whats happening. its likely a long string of putting incompatible plugin version with incompatible browser version. or in others word: having horrible luck. |
It looks like Version 1.3.2 was the latest legacy version (which is in a separate repo that has been archived). However, I would recommend updating your version of Firefox as the best solution, so that this new version of the add-on works. Here's a Mozilla add-ons blog post that talks a little about why legacy add-ons, like the legacy version of Lightbeam linked above, are no longer supported in Firefox 57+. If you have any more questions around version compatibility, I would direct you to our Support site and Mozilla's Add-ons Discourse forums as resources. |
i can confirm that version 1.3.2 work perfectly fine with firefox V56.
actualy, your team could probably advertise this version as a working legacy version of the plugin.
i was right to ask you for assistance in the end. thank you for your time bianca.

black screen, no graph load, button don't work, nothing work. not sure if old incompatibility or different cause for 56 and 57.
tryed with no other plugin of course, and tryed to specify history alway keep and cookie alway keep. did everything a normal user would do to make it work so asuming something is wrong with the current version of lightbeam as of november 2017( should be october 2.0.4).
