Create new elastic IP and assign to instance

Hi,

did I miss a config key or is it not possible at the moment to assign a free elastic IP to a VM? There seems to be a warning even, but no way to assign the elastic IP from within the Vagrantfile:

[default] Warning! You're launching this instance into a VPC without an
elastic IP. Please verify you're properly connected to a VPN so
you can access this machine, otherwise Vagrant will not be able
to SSH into it.

I guess ideally we would want something like knife's ssh-gateway option (chef/chef#33) in order to connect to the VPC through a box that is available from the outside (support machine, LB, etc.) and from there vagrant jumps to the internal machine for provisioning.

So, there are two features here. One I think is a configuration option to allocate and assign an elastic IP to an instance as it is created. Another is SSH gateway. The second is really a Vagrant core issue since Vagrant core doesn't support SSH gateways.

Let's make this issue for creating an IP address and assigning.

The way I see this feature working:

• A configuration aws.elastic_ip = true
• When set, part of the creation process creates an elastic IP (a new one) and assigns it to the instance.

Some changes needed to make it work:

• Provider ssh_info needs to take public IPs into account as a potential SSH candidate.
• Elastic IP needs to be tracked in the machine data dir and released when the VM is destroyed.

Since I am moving away from my custom app I created, here is how I reliably assigned a machine an elastic ip using boto.ec2 (in python):

The idea is that you:

1. Create a network interface
2. Request a dynamically allocated elastic ip
3. Assign elastic ip to new interface id
4. Create a network interface object (boto requirement)
5. Use the network interface object when specifying the network interface on the new machine.

I'm not too familiar with ruby, yet, else I'd would have written it up tonight. This should give you a good idea of how to achieve this goal.
