Downloading rar files from deviantart?

Recently I encountered this error when downloading from deviantart: No filename extension found for MIME type 'application/rar'. Is it not possible to download rar files?

I've downloaded 865 rar files without that error. I've gotten that error a lot with other files though. The files still downloaded but they were given the .txt extension. I seem to have 2961 files with the wrong extension.

That's exactly what happened to me. The rar file downloaded as an illegible .txt file.

It should be openable if you rename the extension to "rar". I'm not sure what can be done about it downloading files with the wrong extensions though. I can't identify the extension of many of the files I have.

I've added application/rar to the list of pre-defined MIME types, so at least this one instance should be fixed (adcd7cb)

Concerning the 2961 files with wrong/unknown file extensions, you could try file if that's available to you, and maybe share the more common MIME types and extensions, so I can also add them to the list.

I already corrected the two .txt files I downloaded manually, but it is reassuring to know I won't have to worry about that anymore :)

Have also noticed that sometimes, PSD files will have the same thing happen.

Changing the extension from txt to psd results in a usable PSD file again.

Very strange.
