Rsync on Rasplex I wanted to use my Rasplex install with an external drive to run backups, as this is always on I didn't want to have to run another device and rsync at both ends gives huge speed improvements over rsync over a network filesystem on it's own. Unfortunately Rasplex has no package manager and although it's based on OpenELEC I couldn't find a way installing the add-ons. To get around this I copied the files and libraries from Raspbian Jessie, added my own add-on folder and create a script to include the local librarys. To install this add-on, simply take the add-on folder and copy it to /storage under Rasplex through sftp. The following are the steps I took to create the folder. All these files were taken from Raspbian Jessie image available at https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ you can use the lite image. 1.) download image file and extract 2.) use fdisk to find root partition $ fdisk -lu 2016-05-27-raspbian-jessie.img # record start address and create loop back device with offset $ sudo losetup -f --show 2016-05-27-raspbian-jessie.img -o $((137216 * 512) # mount in temporary directory $ sudo mount /dev/loop0 rpi/ 3.) copy rsync, libattr, libacl & libpopt $ cp rpi/usr/bin/rsync add-on/rsync/rsync.bin $ cp rpi/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libacl.so.1.1.0 add-on/rsync/libacl.so.1 $ cp rpi/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libattr.so.1.1.0 add-on/rsync/libattr.so.1 $ cp rpi/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libpopt.so.0.0.0 add-on/rsync/libpopt.so.0 4.) copy rsync script $ cp rsync add-on/rsync/ 5.) copy add-on folder to /storage folder on RasPlex over sftp
