ci: register signed Computer Use host check on main - #27704
Register the signed Computer Use host workflow on the default main branch so GitHub schedules and dispatches it. The implementation and tooling live on feat-cmux-next (landed in #28223, carry of #27690); the workflow's TOOLING_REF checks out that branch for scheduled and dispatched runs, matching the existing nightly-next launch smoke sync pattern.
This PR carries .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml plus its .github/warm-sources.json entry (it compiles nothing). The pick job uses main's launch-smoke routing form, because main's guards don't know vars.RUNNER_POOLS yet.
Risk: low. A new scheduled check workflow; no product code.
Added automated checks for signed computer-use host availability on qualifying pull requests, scheduled runs, and manual runs. When a suitable host is available, the workflow selects it and runs the signed host check.
cmux status(one comment, edited in place; each line is updated by the job that owns it)
Probably yours:CI fast guards failed: a guard step failed, FAIL 4.6s workflow-guard-tests / ci: Validate no job names its runner only as literal labels.
no known signature; failed step: Validate nightly and DEV delivery never cancel or replace a waiting run
Matched log lines
CI fast guards: FAIL 4.6s workflow-guard-tests / ci: Validate no job names its runner only as literal labels
Not re-run automatically: CI fast guards, guards / workflow-guard-tests / release-notary are not machine failures.
Written by scripts/ci/classify_failures.py (ci-failure-attribution.yml); signatures are its SIGNATURES table. A machine verdict is the runner's fault, not this PR's; yours means the failing file is one this PR changes, also red on main that main's latest full suite fails the same way, seen on other PRs that it failed on another pull request's run lately.
AssertionError: Lists differ: [('nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml', 'pick')] != []
First list contains 1 additional elements.
First extra element 0:
('nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml', 'pick')
- [('nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml', 'pick')]
+ [] : these jobs name their runner only as literal labels; read a pool (fromJSON(vars.RUNNER_POOLS).<pool>, .github/runners.json) or a picker's output
Fix: the assertion above names what the guard expects; change the tree to match it.
Reproduce in seconds, no build: scripts/ci/guards-local.sh --step 'Validate no job names its runner only as literal labels'
Agents: python3 scripts/ci/guard_attribution.py fix applies the mechanical fixes locally.

Walkthrough
This change adds a scheduled, manual, and pull-request workflow for signed Computer Use host admission. It attempts owned-Mac or Blacksmith placement and runs the admission check when placement reports a suitable host.
Changes: Signed-host admission
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Workflow triggers and tooling ref .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml
Adds hourly, manual, and path-filtered pull-request triggers. Sets workflow permissions and concurrency, and selects the tooling ref based on the pull-request target branch.
Adds a pick job for the repository and same-repository pull requests. The job optionally mints a routing token and attempts placement on an owned Mac or Blacksmith slot. It reports whether placement outputs include cua-signed-host.
Runs only after successful placement reports an available host. Selects a runner, checks out the Xcode-selection and admission scripts, selects Xcode with macOS SDK major 26, and runs cua_signed_host_check.py. Adds the job to the warm-source registry with an empty source list and an exemption.
The workflow has bounded reliability and accounting gaps: placement failures can silently skip admission, and lost owned-runner capacity can leave admission queued. These warrant owner awareness and follow-up; no production application failure is established.

Full details: Cmux Cloud Persistent Session And Early Input
Explanation
PASS: The pull request changes only a GitHub Actions workflow and .github/warm-sources.json. It does not change Cloud terminal creation, transport, cmux-tui clients, PTY readiness, input ownership, or auth/idempotency/revision/lease fences. The custom check is therefore not applicable.
Full details: Cmux Swift Actor Isolation
Explanation
PASS: The pull request changes only .github/warm-sources.json and .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml. The reviewed diff contains no Swift, Swift interface, or Swift documentation files, so it introduces no Swift actor isolation issue.
Full details: Cmux Swift Blocking Runtime
Explanation
The pull request changes only .github/warm-sources.json and a GitHub Actions workflow. It introduces no Swift source or production runtime synchronization code, so it does not introduce or expand the listed Swift blocking or timing patterns.
Full details: Cmux Browser Automation Off-Main
Explanation
The reviewed diff changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. It does not modify TerminalController.swift, ControlCommandExecutionPolicy.swift, policy tests, or add browser socket commands. Therefore, it does not introduce or worsen a browser automation off-main violation.
Full details: Cmux Expensive Synchronous Load
Explanation
The pull request changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. It adds no Swift code and no agent-history, transcript, JSONL, or synchronous workspace load. The custom check does not apply.
Full details: Cmux Algorithmic Complexity
Explanation
The pull request adds one workflow and one warm-source registry entry. It introduces no Swift, TypeScript, JavaScript, shell loop, query, or collection algorithm. The workflow only performs bounded string-presence checks and invokes existing Python tooling. No condition in the algorithmic-complexity rules is introduced.
Full details: Cmux Swift Concurrency
Explanation
The pull request changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. The reviewed diff contains no Swift files or Swift concurrency code, so it does not introduce or expand any covered legacy async pattern.
Full details: Cmux Swift `@Concurrent`
Explanation
The pull request changes only .github/warm-sources.json and a GitHub Actions YAML workflow. It contains no Swift files or Swift declarations, so it cannot introduce any @concurrent or nonisolated async violation.
Full details: Cmux Swift Package Boundaries
Explanation
PASS. The pull request changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. The diff contains no Swift production changes, so the Swift package boundary rule is not applicable.
Full details: Cmux Swiftpm Lockfiles
Explanation
PASS: The PR changes only the signed-host workflow and warm-source registry. It does not change a cmux-owned .gitignore, Package.swift, Package.resolved, or Xcode project package references. The workflow only checks out Xcode selection scripts and runs the host check; it does not introduce SwiftPM dependency resolution changes. No lockfile diff is required under the stated policy.
Full details: Cmux User-Facing Error Privacy
Explanation
The pull request changes only an internal GitHub Actions workflow and its warm-source registry entry. The workflow emits only the generic CI summary text "skipped: no host" and uses provider names such as Blacksmith, routing variables, and tokens only in CI placement configuration. No changed text reaches a cmux app UI, product CLI, or product API, and no secret or payload is printed.
Full details: Cmux Full Internationalization
Explanation
PASS: The diff only adds a GitHub Actions workflow and a warm-source registry entry. It changes CI job names, comments, and operational status text, not Swift UI, app catalogs, web UI, API responses, metadata, changelogs, or rendered product data. The internationalization rule allows operational documentation and developer-only text.
Full details: Cmux Swiftui State Layout
Explanation
PASS: The pull request changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. It contains no Swift or SwiftUI changes, so the SwiftUI state-layout failure conditions do not apply.
Full details: Cmux Architecture Rethink
Explanation
PASS: The pull request changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. It introduces no Swift source, SwiftUI/AppKit bridge, lifecycle, synchronization, observer, or state-ownership changes. The Swift architectural rethink failure conditions do not apply.
Full details: Cmux Swift Auxiliary Window Close Shortcuts
Explanation
The pull request changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. It adds no Swift code and does not change any cmux-owned window. The auxiliary-window close-shortcut rule is therefore not applicable.
Full details: Cmux Source Artifacts
Explanation
The diff changes only .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml and .github/warm-sources.json. These are deliberate CI configuration and registry files. They do not add logs, screenshots, recordings, temporary directories, caches, build output, dependency checkouts, or other source-control artifacts.
Full details: Cmux No Test Or Debug Seam In Production Source
Explanation
The pull request changes only .github/warm-sources.json and .github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml. It changes no Swift file under a production Sources/ path, so it cannot introduce a production test or debug seam.

Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Scheduled placement executes side_lane_placement.py from the mutable feat-cmux-next ref while passing it the routing-app token. If that branch permits less-reviewed pushes than main, the default-branch workflow may expose the token to code that did not receive equivalent review.
That script can misuse or disclose the routing-app token and its granted organization or repository read access.
This can occur when: Someone able to update feat-cmux-next but not the protected workflow changes the placement script before a scheduled run.
Unverified finding
We couldn't verify this from the code. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
The admission checkout includes only two script files. If cua_signed_host_check.py imports a repository helper or reads another checked-in asset, its dependencies will be absent on the Mac runner.
The signed-host job fails before completing admission.
This can occur when: The feature-branch admission script imports another scripts/ci module or opens a repository file not in this sparse checkout.

Land scripts/ci/cua_signed_host_check.py on feat-cmux-next before this workflow reaches main.
Scheduled runs check out feat-cmux-next. That branch has scripts/ci/side_lane_placement.py but not scripts/ci/cua_signed_host_check.py. The checkout succeeds. When a Mac is placed, the admission step runs the missing script and fails. Until the script lands, merging this schedule produces failing runs.
Suggested process fix
Merge the admission script to feat-cmux-next first, or merge this workflow after that branch contains it. No workflow edit is established as safe.

Fail the run when placement errors, instead of reporting no host.
The place step sets continue-on-error: true. If side_lane_placement.py exits nonzero, its outputs stay empty. The host decision then sets host_available=false, the report step writes skipped: no host, and the run succeeds. A placement error looks like a capacity skip, so the consent check can stay green without running.

Add the owned-pool rescue marker.
When placement selects an owned runner, the workflow can remain queued on needs.pick.outputs.runner if another job claims that runner before admission. The rescue workflow does not adopt this picker run because it has no owned-pool-watch marker, and the workflow is not in SIDE_WORKFLOW_PATHS. Integrate this workflow with the existing marker-based rescue path. Do not add it to SIDE_WORKFLOW_PATHS, which is for workflows without a picker.

Lander (drain-ci): not landing 12e345d. CI fast guards fails on three guards that this PR's new workflow trips, so these are this PR's own reds. The classifier confirms it: main run 41188732166 is green on the same guard.
warm sources:nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml:signed-host compiles or tests on a Mac runner but has no entry in .github/warm-sources.json.
owned-pool rescue:signed-host takes pick's output, which reads vars.CI_PR_POOL_OWNED. The workflow therefore has to be in the list of workflows that main's scripts/ci/owned_pool_rescue.py watches.
fork runner routing:pick holds a secret and an App key, yet its runs-on can resolve through a variable to a label other than a Blacksmith one. A job holding a secret must run where no variable can move it.
There is also no review at this head. Once the owner lane fixes these, I'll get an exact-head review and land it.

Checked the diff against main (workflow file plus one exempt warm-sources entry). Every tooling path the workflow runs exists on feat-cmux-next now that #28223 landed. The only differences from feat-cmux-next's copy are the two runs-on expressions, which use main's routing form because main's guards don't know RUNNER_POOLS. The YAML loads, and the warm-sources and fork-routing guard tests pass. Triggers, permissions and secret handling follow the launch-smoke pattern, and the hourly run skips when no Mac is free, so it is not a guaranteed red.
Follow-ups:
[follow-up] On main, pick uses a literal Blacksmith Linux label. Route it through the fleet pool once main's guards know RUNNER_POOLS.
[follow-up] The hourly schedule takes a Mac every hour. Consider triggering it on a new NIGHTLY publish instead.

Correct the signed-host exemption reason in warm-sources.
The signed-host entry says the job compiles nothing. The admission helper on feat-cmux-next runs xcrun clang on a C probe on every run. Mark the entry as a cold compile so the known-gap accounting records it.

Review comment at @.github/warm-sources.json at line 89:
Update the exemption reason for the nightly-next-cua-signed-host.yml:signed-host
entry in warm-sources to mark it as a cold compile, reflecting that the
admission helper compiles a C probe with xcrun clang on each run.

Register the signed Computer Use host workflow on the default
mainbranch so GitHub schedules and dispatches it. The implementation and tooling live onfeat-cmux-next(landed in #28223, carry of #27690); the workflow'sTOOLING_REFchecks out that branch for scheduled and dispatched runs, matching the existing nightly-next launch smoke sync pattern. This PR carries
.github/workflows/nightly-next-cua-signed-host.ymlplus its.github/warm-sources.jsonentry (it compiles nothing). Thepickjob uses main's launch-smoke routing form, because main's guards don't knowvars.RUNNER_POOLSyet.Risk: low. A new scheduled check workflow; no product code.
