Clear the password badge on runtime release and apply its settings live - #14905
Conversation
When a terminal's runtime is freed (teardown, agent hibernation, or stale pointer quarantine) while echo is off, Ghostty never reports echo back on, so the badge stayed up over the replacement runtime. The pane host now gets terminalSurfaceRuntimeDidRelease() on those paths and clears the badge. While a prompt is active the indicator observes UserDefaults, so toggling the indicator or dots setting shows or hides them at once. Idle terminals do not observe. Document that pasted text is not counted and that only local prompts are detected. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Navigate logical layers of code changes, visualize relationships, and explore their blast radius. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe pane-host protocol now reports runtime release across stale-surface invalidation, teardown, and agent-hibernation suspension. The password indicator reloads settings while a prompt is active and clears its state when the runtime is released. ChangesRuntime release and password indicator

Keep typed-count tracking independent of display settings.
When the prompt is active, classify and record keystrokes regardless of showsIndicator and showsDots. The current wantsKeystrokes guard skips input when either setting is disabled. Re-enabling a setting during the same prompt then shows a stale count.
Keep the settings in render() only. Preserve setEchoDisabled(true) as the explicit new-prompt reset.

Summary
TerminalSurfacePaneHostinggainsterminalSurfaceRuntimeDidRelease(), called on those three paths;GhosttySurfaceScrollViewclears the badge there.terminal.showPasswordInputIndicator/terminal.showPasswordInputDotsonly when echo turned off. It now observesUserDefaults.didChangeNotificationwhile a prompt is active (and only then), so toggling either setting mid-prompt shows or hides the badge and dots at once. Idle terminals register no observer.all-keys.mdnotes that pasted text is not counted in dots and that only local prompts are detected (an ssh password prompt counts; sudo inside an ssh session does not).
