the command palette's fuzzy matcher was the right scorer for a sidebar workspace filter, but two domain packages cannot depend on each other, so it moves down to CmuxFoundation. CommandPaletteFuzzyMatcher stays as a typealias, so no palette call site changes and its reference-scoring tests still pin the same numbers. the filter itself is pure value logic in CmuxSidebar: a prepared index built once per corpus revision, scored per keystroke. fields are tried in priority order and the first hit wins, so a row matching on its title never pays to score its branch, directory and ports (worst-case keystroke 35.9ms -> 10.5ms at 500 all-matching workspaces; 2.8ms on a realistic 200-workspace corpus). rows are filtered, never reordered - a sidebar is spatial and re-sorting by score mid-type moves rows under the pointer. ranking rides along separately for return-to-jump.
hover-reveal for the collapsed sidebar, as a pure (state, event) -> effects machine with no timers, views or clock inside it. the timing policy is a value type so settings configures a policy rather than reaching into the machine. the rules that decide whether a hover panel is bearable are all here and all tested: dwell before revealing so crossing the edge en route to a terminal never flashes the sidebar; grace before dismissing so the pointer can travel the diagonal from edge strip into panel; a drag skips dwell because it has already declared intent; and a hold set (pointer inside, context menu open, keyboard focus, drag in flight) refuses dismissal, which is what stops a context menu from dismissing the panel it was opened from. 21 tests, including stale timers firing in the wrong phase and a hold taken between the grace timer being scheduled and firing.
the filter chrome is split from its text input so the same frame hosts a live TextField in the app and a plain Text anywhere the field is drawn without being editable. match emphasis is a tinted pill behind the run rather than coloured text: recolouring would put a second blue beside the selection fill, which is already the accent, and the two would compete. the tint is scheme-aware because the accent needs more alpha on near-black than on near-white to read the same. a miss is reported by the match count reaching 0 and by an empty state that names the query, with no colour change anywhere. the earlier orange ring introduced a hue the sidebar palette does not have. CmuxSidebarGallery renders these to PNG offscreen via ImageRenderer, no window and no screen-recording permission, in seconds rather than the ~15 minutes a full app build costs. it is deliberately not wired into cmux.xcodeproj. it immediately paid for itself by catching a literal \(queryText) in the empty state and a .link button that renders AppKit's link blue next to the accent.
the float/dock switch is one control in a fixed corner, and both modes host the identical rail at the identical width: switching moves the frame, never reflows the rows, so the row being read keeps its shape across the change. the gloss is the rim, not the fill. a uniform hairline reads as a sticker; catching more light along the top edge and falling off downward is what makes the card read as glass lying over the terminal rather than a rectangle drawn on it. the border is drawn from the panel's own side because the backdrop is whatever the terminal happens to be showing. new-workspace is a full-width footer row rather than a + glyph, so the gesture that picks a workspace is the gesture that makes one. note: ImageRenderer cannot rasterise backdrop blur, so the gallery shows the material as a flat fill. layout, rim and shadow are reviewable offscreen; the blur itself has to be judged in the running app.
rides on the existing retained-AppKit-sidebar path: cmux already keeps the workspace table mounted behind a zero-width shell while the sidebar is hidden, so revealing it is a frame and opacity change with no table to build. that is what makes peek instant rather than merely fast, and it is why the reveal translates a laid-out subtree instead of animating its width, which would re-lay-out every row on every frame. the edge strip is an NSTrackingArea, not a hit-test. hitTest on the terminal host is on the typing-latency path per CLAUDE.md and runs for every keystroke; a tracking area is serviced by AppKit's mouse-moved plumbing and removes itself entirely while the sidebar is docked. it also returns nil from hitTest so it can never eat a click meant for the leading column of the terminal. presentationMode joins VerticalTabsSidebar's == because the toggle's glyph flips on it and would otherwise be skipped by the equality gate; the toggle closure stays out, like every other action bundle.
…lease drag visuals run on a 120hz pointer poll that no appkit drag callback can touch. destination callbacks (planner, overlay, exited) only track the drop plan; the commit stays on the stock release path. frozen frame capture at drag start makes displacement boundaries immovable mid-drag, spring glides use explicit CASpringAnimation because view-backing layers ignore implicit transaction animations, and dragged rows keep full opacity since the row itself is the drag visual (ghost suppressed for single-row drags).
closing a workspace slides its row out and creating one inserts in place instead of reloading every visible cell, which was both the create lag and the visual blink. selection coalescing window drops to 40ms now that switches are cheap.
the peek card lives in its own child panel above the portal-hosted terminal (the only way to draw over it), with real behind-window blur, its own hover tracking, and instant reveal from the titlebar toggle. terminal cursor rects yield to the card while it accepts the pointer so titles stop flashing the ibeam. docking over a revealed card swaps in place with no ghost slide.
the sidebar toggle sweeps the real layout width through the same live resize path the manual divider uses, so pane and terminal move together with no choreography to drift out of sync. window ground is the sidebar material window-wide, the workspace band and terminal draw as one card rounded where it meets the glass, and the last four workspaces stay mounted so recent tab switches are a visibility flip instead of a cold mount.
- settings: sidebar glass tint (one wash shared by docked and floating), peek reveal speed, disable peek, row density, disable switch on drag - window glass on by default: transparent window so the sidebar samples real behind-window vibrancy instead of flat frost - vscode material icon pack in the file explorer, finder/sf fallback - env-gated nav timing lines around switch, create, close, toggle, peek - compact floating panel top inset, dropped the new workspace button
…cker fix sidebar ground is now clear window + compositor blur radius instead of an appkit material, so blur is a real slider (1x-5x). tint slider drives a slate grey wash (default 44%). floating peek card gets the same blur only while it is showing so it never blurs the docked rows under it. files/find/vault sidebar stays on a solid terminal-coloured ground. new sidebar accent setting: blue or flat grey glass pill. toggle-button hover no longer pops the card during a hide (300ms window). close button gets a centred hover circle. sidebar defaults baked (hudWindow fallback, behind-window, always-active) and the upstream defaults-stamping migration is defanged.
dragging a workspace group moved the header row alone while its members stayed put. the freeform lift now carries the header plus its visible member rows as one block, other rows and groups part around the block's real height, and a group can never land inside another group mid-drag. single row drags are unchanged; the layout math is now exact for mixed row heights. commit path is upstream's existing whole-group move.

reallocating frozen session geometry on every tick. Precompute each unit’s
height, midpoint, and top when creating the session, then use a binary search to

mixed-height and block placement behavior.
- Around line 1596-1604: Replace the fixed 120 Hz Timer created by
startReorderPoll with an event-driven update from draggingSession(_:movedTo:),
using SidebarWorkspaceTableViewImpl.lastPointerWindowLocation to drive
updateReorderLift only when pointer events arrive. Keep performReorderDrop on
the existing accepted-plan path, remove the polling timer and layer-transform
row-position ownership, and preserve normal NSTableView/rows geometry as the
sole source of row frames.
- Around line 1829-1841: Update the NSTableView row-add lifecycle handler, such
as tableView(_:didAdd:forRow:), to clear any stale reorder transform and
zPosition from reused row views after reorderLiftSession has ended. Remove the
cmux.reorderShift animation and reset the layer without implicit actions, while
leaving active drag-session rows unchanged; the endReorderLift cleanup can

In `@Sources/Sidebar/Filter/SidebarFilterController.swift`:
- Line 3: Replace the new SidebarFilterController Combine-based state with
Observation: remove the Combine import, annotate SidebarFilterController with
`@Observable`, and remove the three `@Published` wrappers while preserving

the controller with `@State` rather than `@StateObject` or `@ObservedObject`.
In `@Sources/Sidebar/Filter/SidebarFilterCorpusKey.swift`:
- Line 12: Update SidebarFilterCorpusKey to store the compared searchable corpus

genuinely equal corpora.
In `@Sources/Sidebar/Peek/SidebarPeekController.swift`:
- Around line 13-15: Refactor SidebarPeekController to use the Observation
`@Observable` macro instead of ObservableObject and `@Published` for presentsPanel.
Remove the now-unused Combine import and update consumers to retain the
controller with SwiftUI `@State`, preserving the existing narrow invalidation
behavior.
In `@Sources/Sidebar/Peek/SidebarPeekPanelHost.swift`:
- Line 281: The detach flow in detach() must restore terminal cursor handling
before clearing parentWindow: set parent.cmuxSuppressesTerminalCursor to false
and call resetCursorRects() before assigning parentWindow = nil, preserving
normal behavior when the panel is removed.
- Line 179: Replace the fixed Task.sleep delay in the dismissal flow with an
explicit dismissal-complete action emitted by SidebarPeekPresentation and
handled by the controller. Clear the compositor blur in that action handler,
keeping blur removal synchronized with actual panel dismissal and avoiding
Task.sleep for runtime coordination.
In `@Sources/Sidebar/SidebarNavigationTimings.swift`:
- Around line 14-36: Replace the static-only SidebarNavigationTimings state with
a constructable, injectable owner that owns the pending timing dictionaries,
sample counter, and diagnostics output. Remove the ad hoc environment-path
FileHandle writer and emit harvested records through Logger using the existing
subsystem and a dedicated SidebarNavigationTimings category, while preserving
OSSignposter instrumentation and updating callers to inject the owner.
- Around line 108-111: Update SidebarNavigationTimings.appendLine to use
FileHandle.write(contentsOf:) instead of the non-throwing write API, explicitly
discarding any thrown error so failed diagnostic writes do not terminate the
app.
In `@Sources/Sidebar/SidebarToggleAnimator.swift`:
- Line 72: Update SidebarToggleAnimator to track the sweep destination
separately from the intermediate layout width, and only assign restingWidth when
hiding a fully visible sidebar. Preserve the user’s saved restingWidth when a
reveal is interrupted so the next reveal restores the full width.
- Line 52: Update SidebarToggleAnimator’s sweep flow to receive the operation
name, ensure each transition’s timing mark is ended exactly once when the sweep
completes, and prevent later timer ticks or show sweeps from ending toggle.hide.
Start toggle.show only after the request has passed the peek guard and been
consumed, including the early-return path.
- Around line 89-110: Replace the repeating Timer-based transition in the toggle
animation with an explicitly owned presentation or layout animation lifecycle.
Preserve the eased width interpolation from the current layout state to the
target state, ensure updates occur on the main actor, and invoke the existing
completion exactly once when the animation finishes or is cancelled. Remove the
timer state and related invalidation logic.
- Line 16: Update SidebarToggleAnimator so an interrupted hide preserves the
intended open width rather than storing the intermediate layout.width in
restingWidth. In sweep, pair each interval with its matching show or hide
transition and end each transition only once after the full sweep. Remove
ObservableObject and the timer-driven rendering repair path, and change
ContentView’s `@StateObject` ownership to a plain owner unless Observation is
explicitly required.
In `@Sources/Update/UpdateTitlebarAccessory.swift`:
- Around line 1155-1159: Update the cmuxSidebarToggleHoverChanged notification
flow around the posting code and its ContentView receiver to include the
originating window number, then accept and apply the event only when it matches
the receiver’s window. Preserve hover handling while preventing non-key windows
from updating another window’s SidebarPeekController.

Localize the curated setting titles.
Lines 180-186 add user-facing titles as English literals. Settings search will show these titles in English for every locale. Use String(localized:defaultValue:) with stable keys shared with the sidebar rows. Add the matching translations to every supported catalog.
As per coding guidelines, “User-facing text must use localized APIs and matching catalogs.” As per path instructions, “fail partial localization.”

around lines 180 - 186, Update the curated setting titles for
sidebar-selection-accent, sidebar-glass-blur, sidebar-glass-tint,
sidebar-peek-reveal, sidebar-peek-disabled, sidebar-row-density, and
sidebar-drag-switch to use String(localized:defaultValue:) with stable keys
matching the sidebar row localizations. Add translations for every supported
locale catalog and ensure no newly added title remains English-only.

Remove the timer-driven settings write.
Line 196 uses Task.sleep to delay coordination of persistent setting updates. Commit on edit completion, or move coalescing into the owning settings persistence path without a sleeping task.
As per coding guidelines: “Do not introduce … Task.sleep … used for … delayed coordination.”

Close navigation timing intervals on no-op exits.
SidebarNavigationTimings.begin("create") and "close" remain pending until explicitly ended or cancelled. Workspace-creation failures, a missing tab manager, and cancelled close confirmations can return without a sidebar apply, so endAnyApplyDriven() does not run. Cancel or end the interval on each such path, or start it after the required preconditions.

Replace the runtime singleton with a constructable, injectable type.
MaterialFileIconResolver.shared is a new runtime singleton holding mutable cache state (imageCache, missing). As per coding guidelines, **/Sources/**/*.swift code must "avoid ambient global state and behavior: do not add ... new singletons for runtime state. Put state and behavior on a constructable, injectable owning type."
Make MaterialFileIconResolver a constructable type and inject it into call sites (for example SidebarWorkspaceRowCellView) instead of reaching a global shared instance. This also removes the need to reason about missing's thread-safety implicitly.

Compute scoringOrder once instead of sorting per candidate.
scoringOrder is a computed static var, so every access allocates allCases and sorts it. SidebarFilterIndex.match reads it inside the per-candidate loop (SidebarFilterIndex.swift Line 121), so a corpus of roughly 1000 workspaces performs roughly 1000 array allocations and sorts on every keystroke.
Make it a static let. The element type is Sendable and the value is immutable, so this stays safe under Swift 6 concurrency checking. The sort still documents the priority invariant, and it now runs once.

Derive isEmptyResult from visibleWorkspaceIds
For a group-name-only query, SidebarFilterIndex preserves the group anchor in visibleWorkspaceIds, but orderedMatchWorkspaceIds remains empty. isEmptyResult therefore reports an empty result even though the outcome contains a visible row. A consumer that uses this flag to show the empty state can hide the group.

Nothing sets isFocused, so the field mounts unfocused.
isFocused is private and is only read, at Line 49. No initializer parameter or binding writes it. SidebarFilterController.presentField() in Sources/Sidebar/Filter/SidebarFilterController.swift documents "Opens the field and focuses it", but it only sets isFieldPresented. Use @Observable instead of ObservableObject and @Published for this new state holder.
This is a new cmux-owned state type. The coding guidelines require Observation for new SwiftUI state and forbid introducing Combine constructs for app state. @Published also invalidates every observer on each keystroke, while Observation tracks only the properties a view actually reads.
The change is mechanical: drop the Combine import, annotate the class with @Observable, and remove the three @Published wrappers. private(set) and the didSet observer on queryText both work unchanged under @Observable. Update the owning view to hold the controller in @State instead of @StateObject or @ObservedObject.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Store the compared values, not just their hash; a hash collision silently freezes the filter index.
SidebarFilterCorpusKey keeps only hash: Int, so the synthesized == compares two 64-bit digests. SidebarFilterController.updateCorpus at Line 74 treats equality as proof that the corpus did not change:
guard key != corpusKey else { return }On a collision between two different corpora, that guard returns early and index keeps the previous workspaces' prepared text. The filter then scores against stale titles, branches, and paths: a renamed or newly added workspace becomes unmatchable, and a deleted one still matches. The state does not self-correct, because corpusKey is never updated; it persists until a later corpus change happens to produce a different digest.
SidebarFilterCorpusEntry is already Hashable, and the three group fields you read are value types. Store them and let the compiler synthesize exact equality. The stated goal — an unrelated workspace change compares equal so the index survives — still holds, because only the searchable fields are captured.

Use valid PBX object identifiers for both new file registrations.
The two registrations use non-hexadecimal characters in their object identifiers. PBX object identifiers use 24-character uppercase hexadecimal values. (chromium.googlesource.com)

Preserve source compatibility for external conformers.
WindowBackdropControllerDependencies is a public protocol in the CmuxAppKitSupportUI library product. Adding setCompositorBackgroundBlur(windowNumber:radius:) as a required requirement causes conformers outside this repository to fail to compile. If external conformers are supported, provide a safe protocol-extension default implementation or introduce the requirement in a versioned API change.

Confirm full-window cursor suppression.
When SidebarPeekPanelWindowController.update(...) sets the parent flag while the card accepts mouse input, GhosttyTerminalView.resetCursorRects() assigns .arrow to the terminal view’s entire bounds. Clear the drag transforms in every structural apply branch, not only two of them.
handsOffReorderTransforms is consumed for any structural apply, but endReorderLift(animated: false) runs only in the forced-reload branch (Line 863) and the stable-geometry reorder branch (Line 879). The new pure-insertion branch (Lines 898-917), the new pure-removal branch (Lines 918-940), and the height-changing reload branch (Lines 941-958) never clear the transforms.
The failure path is concrete:
performReorderDropcommits and setsclearsReorderTransformsOnNextApply = true(Line 1922).draggingSession endedAtsees the flag and skipsendReorderLift(animated: true)(Lines 1568-1570).- The committed apply changes row identity in a way that is not a pure reorder — for example dragging a workspace into a group adds a group header row, and dragging the last member out removes one. That apply takes the insertion, removal, or reload branch.
handsOffReorderTransformsis reset tofalseat Line 856, so no later apply retries the clear.
The dragged block and the glided rows keep their transform.translation.y and zPosition = 100 until an unrelated relayout replaces the layers. The rows paint at the drag-time offsets over the committed order.

The orchestrator closure creates a second owner of isVisible.
SidebarState owns isVisible. animatedVisibilityOrchestrator hands that ownership to SidebarToggleAnimator, and applyVisibilityBypassingOrchestrator(_:) exists only to re-enter the setter without consulting the new owner. Two objects now decide when isVisible changes, and the re-entrancy guard is a public bypass method that any caller can use.
The split already has a visible consequence. In SidebarToggleAnimator.animateVisibility(to:) the show path sets isVisible = true before the width sweep starts, so isVisible and the rendered width disagree for the whole sweep. A hide request arriving in that interval passes the nextValue != isVisible guard at Line 54 and re-enters the orchestrator mid-sweep.
Give one object the transition. For example, let SidebarState hold an explicit visibility phase (hidden, revealing, visible, hiding) that the animator advances, instead of a boolean plus a bypass setter.
As per coding guidelines: "Do not introduce a mutable flag, cache, singleton, observer, or side channel that creates another owner for state already owned by a model, actor, store, view coordinator, or persistence layer."
